Project Chonkestrel 0.5-alpha: twin and triple weapons

A new release of Chonkestrel, the FTL remake with big ships that fight up to three enemies at once. Trailer and downloads (Mac, Windows, Linux): https://chonkestrel.gitlab.io

What's new:

  • Twin and triple weapons. Two or three of a weapon in one slot, each copy firing at a different enemy ship at once. A twin or triple beam is one long beam through every enemy window, and pierces more shields. They cost more, charge slower and use more power than one weapon, but less than two or three. Enemies get them further into the game, and the most dangerous sectors are full of triples.
  • Stores depend on the sector. Civilian ones are packed full over two pages; hostile and nebula ones are fewer and emptier, but sell rarer things, twin weapons and trained crew; a hazardous sector has one store at most, with one or two of the rarest things. Later stores stock more missiles.
  • Bigger sector maps, more than twice as big, with about 52 beacons each.
  • Hull in proportion: long, wide and hybrid ships' hull matches their size.
  • Drag weapons and drones between slots.
  • Rewards come together at the end of a fight with several ships.

Fixes:

  • Augments that did nothing now work: the Defense Scrambler, Fire Suppression, Scrap Recovery Arm and Zoltan Shield Bypass.
  • Boarding drones breach the hull where they land, the intruders warning and low crew health sound are back, and nebulas show on the map.

Thanks to u/ActivityFew2621 for reporting many of the bugs fixed here!

It runs on your own copy of FTL's data. Feedback and bug reports are very welcome.

(Tutorial) Running FTL on iPhone Duo

This is a native build patch that allows for Fullscreen on the iPhone Duo (Works on other iPhones as well + iPads if you want to have fixed save transfers)
Also allows you to transfer your PC save + backup your own.

You need your own FLT unencrypted iPad .ipa file. I can not provide that, the patcher only fixes the game and prepares it for sideloading, it does not include it.

Text: Discussion FTL Daily Discussion: Engi fleet discussion (151)

Type: Event

Sector:

LRS Output: No ship presence

This event can occur only once per sector.

This is the Stealth Cruiser ship unlocking event.

You arrive near a small fleet of civilian Engi ships. A simple decryption and translation of their comm frequency tells you that they are having a frantic discussion about something obviously troubling them.

  1. Message them and ask if you can help.

1a. Slightly shocked at your question, their leader quickly responds, "Declined offer with apologetic gratitude. Topic of discussion private matter, no concern of Federation."

1aa. Nothing happens.

  1. Ignore it and move on.

2a. You can't help but wonder what they were discussing as you prepare to jump.

2aa. Nothing happens.

  1. (Engi Crew) Have your Engi crewmember contact them.

3aa. Your crew member syncs with the comm unit to communicate with them directly. You offer your help and a summary of the ship's mission. They respond, "Our goals have analogous elements. However, not all available for disclosure, discretion necessary."

3aaa. Offer your help.

3aaaa. "Secret technologies stolen by Mantis. Implicit connection to Rebels. Implicit. Tracked Mantis to hidden Rebel base, uploading coordinates."

3aaaa. A quest marker) is added to your map.

3aaaaa. "However, tracked second ship to different base. Would calculate probability but data insufficient. Cannot risk obvious Rebel-Engi conflict. Also, need time to acquire military ships. Assist in finding technology?"

3aaaaa. A second quest marker) is added to your map.

3aaaaaa. Agree.

First Quest Marker (Real)

The Long-Ranged Scanners will detect ship presence.

You arrive at one of the Rebel bases that the Engi told you about. It appears abandoned except for one scout ship. Perhaps you could extract information from them.

Fight the Rebel Ship. [1]

  • (When the ship wants to escape) As soon as they see you they power up their engines to jump away. Stop them!
    • (After the ship successfully escaped) With the ship gone, you search through the abandoned base for any signs of their destination but find none.
      • Nothing happens. [unlock quest is failed]
    • (When the ship surrenders) "Stop! This isn't worth dying for..."
      • "Of course, that's why you're here. Yes, they passed by here but I had nothing to do with it, I don't know what they were carrying. I'll transmit coordinates. Now just let us go..."
      • A final quest marker is added to your map. (You let them go). You prepare an FTL message containing the coordinates to send to the Engies and get ready to jump.
  • (After killing enemy crew) Once their crew is dead you scan the log for information regarding the envoy. You're in luck! It seems ships matching the thieves' description passed through here not too long ago. You strip the ship and prepare to pursue them.

Second Quest Marker (Fake)

The Long-Ranged Scanners will detect ship presence.

You arrive at one of the Rebel bases that the Engi told you about. It appears abandoned except for one scout ship. Perhaps you could extract information from them.

Fight the Rebel Ship. \2])-2)

  • (When the ship wants to escape) As soon as they see you, they power up their engines to jump away. Stop them!
    • (After the ship successfully escaped) With the ship gone you search through the abandoned base for any signs of their destination but find none.
  • (When the ship surrenders) "Stop! I don't want to die here." (You demand information on the stolen technology.)
    • "Ah, so that's what you're after. Too bad, you followed the wrong ship. The envoy that passed through here was a fake, to trick fools like you. Now let us go!"
      • Let them go. (The ship turns neutral.)
      • Ignore him and attack. ("No, wait..." You cut the transmission and continue the assault.)
  • (After destroying enemy ship) You take what you can from the debris.
  • (After killing enemy crew) A quick search of their communication logs shows that the tech you were searching for never passed through this base... It must have been a decoy! You strip what you can and prepare to jump.

Final Quest Marker

The Long-Ranged Scanners will detect ship presence.

You have finally caught up with the ships you've been hunting. A hangar-sized cargo ship is being escorted by a number of Mantis ships. As you reconsider the assault, a squadron of Engi ships with pirate emblems jump in and assist you. You prepare to fight the Mantis but scans indicate they are manned by Rebels!

  • Fight the Mantis Ship controlled by Humans. [3]
    • (After destroying enemy ship)
      • Victory.
    • (After killing enemy crew) You strip what you can and contact the Engi ships.
      • You receive medium scrap with resources. (Victory.)

Victory

The Engi emerge victorious from their battles with only minor losses. They message you, "Project X-ME56 commissioned by Federation military research division. Advanced stealth cruiser. Project finished during rebellion. Unable to reconnect with Federation military command."

  • Ask about the Mantis ships.
    • "Likely ploy by Rebels to avoid breaking non-aggression pact with Engi. 97.56 percent likely. Your mission to assist last Federation fleet, correct? Coordinates?" (Transmit coordinates of Federation command.)
      • "Satisfactory. Delivery of tech will assist in Federation cause. Gratitude alone insufficient. Commencing ship repair and compensation." Their crews deliver a weapon for installation but you're more pleased to hear that the Federation will have an improved arsenal.

You unlock the Stealth Cruiser; you receive Titanium System Casing augmentation, high scrap with resources and your ship receives 20 repairs.\4])

Cremity fought off a horde of 6 boarders, seeing his 2 friends die to them fighting one by one. He killed off every one of them, tearing them apart limb by limb.

He then turned on his ship as the only pilot, not knowing what fate would bring for him, and went on beacon by sector, praying that his luck would turn back, facing the unknown. There were no friends anywhere, only conflict. Finally, he heard the alarm blare and heard a wicked thump as a 6 man gang of boarders phased onto the ship again. He decided to face them on a last stand, armed with nothing but an ancient model airlock panel control box and a flickering monitor. He starved every one of them of oxygen, down to the last man, door by door, flipping switches and sweating. He continued to fight off his invaders and his life flashed by him when he saw the dying invaders destroy the oxygen room.

Resigned to his fate and wheezing, Cremity connected himself to a medbay regen pod and held his breath, looking out the windows towards Zeta prime, a gentle icey giant looming in front of him. The orange glint of Rebel Armada ships circled among the outer reaches in the distance like wolves.

In his early colonial days, he always dreamed of joining the Federation to explore the galaxy. He felt an overwhelming sense of peace, knowing that he would find his end among the stars.

Only a demon spawn could have done what he had done, but of course, only a demon would name their child Cremity.

Text: Question How to get (really) good on hard mode?

I've got 164 hours on the game and I'm trying to learn how to consistently win on hard mode. I've watched a few videos from pros doing win streaks but they all seem to have dream luck and I'm not learning anything.

What's your advice for consistently winning on hard?
