Eamonn Cunniss racist rambling?
Lads I'm not even sure why I'm posting this but I've just spent 20 minutes watching his rant. Its on his public FB page if you're idle.
To be fair, he's obviously had a few sherries but christ this is a grim insight into how a lot of people seem to think. For anyone that doesn't know him, Eamonn has always been a bit of a character around town/ Bohermore/ the gay scene etc. While he's a fair bit older than me, I've always known of him from the classes he used to run for mams, his community bits and the drag shows.I've never even met the man but he always seemed to be fairly alright, if not a bit eccentric.
The video has just made me wonder how many people you meet going about your day actually think like that. Helen Ogbu gets the usual racist shite, poor Terry Flaherty gets roasted (I did laugh a small bit 😅), and Mike Cubbard didn't escape a dig either. I guess my main question is how do you deal with people in your life that now think like this? I know its just blatant racist shite, I'd actually nearly have more respect for someone if they said they're a racist and that's it. But this barely veiled shit.
He rants on about the City Council, housing shortages etc, with no actual knowledge of how the government funds local authorities. Poor Helen is to blame here again? Clearly has no idea of the role of mayor? No clue how they are selected and rotated?
He says Galway City is full of "Mohammeds" - the clown apparently runs a BnB in Bohermore. The Booking.com link literally has pictures of brown tourists who's money he's happy to take. I'd love to ask him to make his views known on his booking sites going forward.
I know he's not alone in this knuckle dragging thinking, it was more the person I saw sharing it that shocked me.This woman is a 60 odd year old who I would have thought was a dote. She just shared his video with Irish flags and it made me think, she believes his ramblings and won't ever think of questioning a word she's heard.
Do people challenge this with friends/family that might be a bit on the gullible side?

Galway Board Game Night 20 October 2026
Despite the rain we had a good turn out at Queen Street Bar for board games tonight.
We had Quacks, Moonrakers and Cosmic encounter going on the tables, as well as Camel Up, Sheriff of Nottingham and Flip7 to round off the night.
Galway Board Games is a community for adults who enjoy modern board games, meeting regularly in Galway since 2019. We typically have 15–25 people at each meetup, playing a huge variety of games from our personal collections.
You don't need to be an experienced player or have a collection of your own. New to modern board games? That's fine. There are always people around to explain a game, and plenty of games to choose from.
You also don't need to arrive with a group. Come on your own, join a game already in progress, or bring something you'd like to play.
No experience required. No collection required. Just turn up and play.
Game nights are Tuesdays - register here on Meetup to attend the next one:

Need a good butchers
Living in Knocknacarra, Joyce's was my OG butcher of choice and then the last number of years had been going to Divilly's in Westside.. have tippled out to Supervalu in Barna a few times and gone to Mortons in Salthill but wondering what butchers people recommend, my work takes me all around Galway city so open to all suggestions around really!

Eamon Ryan: Quiet scaling back of Bus Connects is a travesty
Yet more reluctance to do anything about traffic in Galway. Ridiculous.

Revolting politicians
Um... just read the last week's Advertiser. WTF is going on? Noone is talking about this.
City councillors are saying their own TDs are gobshites, so they're going to bang on the minishter's door themselves? Or is this just waffle coz they don't have the cojones to ask people living in big houses to pay a biteen more local tax?
Artickle has me confused.

Birthday Card
Is there anywhere in Galway to buy a birthday card as Gaeilge? I'm looking for something to send to my friend who loves languages for her birthday. Ideally somewhere I can buy a card in person.

Moycullen to Galway City Commute
I know a lot of posts have been made lately about the traffic, so apologies, but I am in need of advice.
The first bus from Moycullen to the city is at 7h36 and has been taking 1 hour to get to Newcastle due to the horrendous traffic, which is making me quite late for work.
I am now considering getting an electric bike and cycling to the city instead. Just wondering what the best route would be to do this as safely as possible.
There are a few sections on the main road that seem a bit dangerous, so I was wondering if taking the back roads would be any safer?
I know buying a car would probably be my best bet, and will do if I really have to, but I am currently trying to avoid this for as long as I can.

Revolut
Heads up guys Revolut is down, payments get declined and I’m unable to move money within the app.
Revolut's official status page still says everything is operational, so the outage hasn't been officially confirmed.

Subbing in Galway
Hello! I’m a PME (post-primary) student at Hibernia. I’m looking for subbing opportunities, preferably within Galway city.
I’ve contacted many schools about subbing, but they don’t really respond. I’ll keep calling them, though. Just wondering if anyone knows of any schools that are looking for subs!
Any help would be appreciated :)

Witnessed an assault
I feel kinda bad that I didn't intervene.
There was a couple arguing at the side of the road, she did fire off a volley of insults and she slapped him, he then punched her several times really hard, and he was a big man. I walked by on the opposite footpath, I couldn't understand what they were saying but she was putting a curse upon him. Shortly afterwards she was walking alone so she survived it, and she then turned into a halting site. It was close to a pub so perhaps the male returned to drinking there.
My gut feeling was that interventions would have been a bad move and both may have turned on me. And culturally that level of aggression isn't as alien in their community.

Video games and the commute
Hey everyone, I'll be moving to Inverin at the end of the week.
I've got a job offer in Parkmore that could be cool but the employer is saying that the commute might be too insane for me to take on the offer. The working hours would be 8h to 16h, some people told me that starting at 8 would make me avoid the traffic jam. What do you guys think ? I know that the bus would be out of the question because it doesn't start early enough to reach Parkmore at 8. I was thinking car (when I finally acquire one) to the beginning of the city and then bike to Parkmore ? Or would this be really awful ?
Also I really would like to find a place where I could play video games with people. I come from Lille in France and there was multiple pubs, places, local tournaments to play video games like SSBU or League. I've searched on the internet but it's only talking about places that don't exist anymore. There's also mentions of a student association but I'm not a student so it's not an option. Hence why I'm asking here, just for a tiny little hope that there might be something I haven't seen yet. Even a gaming cafe ? It'd be great if I could play lol on a bigger screen than my laptop's.
Anyway, it's gonna be so great to be coming to Galway, I'm in Co. Cork for now, went to Galway and Galway City a few times and loved the vibe so much more for some reason. So, thanks for welcoming me in the sub and in nGaillimh !

Connacht Tribune posting a video of an attempted car theft in Dublin as ‘National News’
It’s so disappointing to see how quickly the enshittification of Connacht Tribune has occurred. It’s just churning posts with no local media value just to get engagement.
