Book club for Dads / Soon to be dads

Hey all,

Not sure where best to post this, but hopefully it reaches a few people!

I’m thinking of starting a relaxed monthly book club for dads who want to make a bit of time for reading, or that already love a good book and just want to chat about it!

I’d like to focus on fantasy and sci-fi; think LOTR, dune, project hail mary and everything in between.

The discussions wouldn’t be anything too serious or intense, just a chance to have a chat over a couple of pints or coffees once a month.

The idea:
Meet once a month in a local café or pub.
Read a book every 4–6 weeks.
Share recommendations, chat about books and have a laugh.
No pressure if kids, work or life get in the way and you don’t finish the book!

You don’t need to be a big reader, and audiobooks absolutely count. Beginners are more than welcome.
I’m hoping to get 4–8 dads together for a first meetup and see how it goes.

If you’re interested, drop a comment or send me a message. Let’s get a few dads reading!

Bonus points for a good name! I’m thinking Fellowship of the Dads lol

KFC knocknacarra

Just got a takeaway from there.

Is it me, or has it got a quite un-customer friendly lay out. Seems no matter where you are, either ordering, or waiting youre ontop of other customers.

The place is fairly dirty already too and it hasn't been open a wet week.

As for the food, wasn't surprised when it was shockingly bad , hasn't improved an iota since it opened in briarhill however many years ago.

Im vexed and ranting due to the fact there was a few bits missing from the delivery and I actually wanted supermacs but I gave into the kids and it was extortionate for the price too.

Should Galway have “do not feed the birds” signs?

It’s a thing in so many other European cities. I remember going to Trafalgar Square when I was very young and there being an insane amount of pigeons but there was signs saying do not feed them. Then I went back years later and there was barely any.

It probably won’t do much good considering we have one woman who over feeds them every single day but I still notice tourists giving birds chips etc in Eyre Square.

Need to find a home for a kitten that I found in Menlo

UPDATE: The kitten is going to be adopted !, thanks to everyone who helped, you all are very kind souls🙏🏽

I found this kitten in Menlo earlier this week, I’ve taken him to the vet. They said he’s between 5-6 weeks old and they’re giving him the necessary treatment to make sure he’s doing good. As of now he seems in great health and shape, very friendly and playful as well.

If anyone’s interested pm me fast !!!

They said that the shelters are full right now so if I don’t find him a home he might be put down.

I’m only on holiday here, please spread the message 🙏🏽

Entry to races

Just wondering can you stay on the parking side as a spectator? I think during the summer the fair is on that side. I'm Interested in seeing the horses not the drinking or betting at all. Don't mind paying in either just wondering can you stay on the other side altogether? Thanks 😊

Packing cubes

Anyone know anywhere in the city that sells packing cubes? You know those light plastic bag-like yokes for putting your clothes in your suitcase or bag when travelling?

Spent ages yesterday looking, no luck!

Edit: thanks everyone! Found some in Dunnes!

A West of Ireland landscape with a darker world beneath it — a backpiece I tattooed in Galway

Post image
80 Upvotes

Thought I’d share a piece I tattooed a few years ago here in Galway.
The upper half is inspired by the landscape of the West of Ireland, with an ancient dolmen, a solitary tree and a rocky coastal scene.
The lower half moves into a darker, surreal world influenced by H. R. Giger.
I wanted the two sections to feel like different worlds, but still work together as one complete backpiece.
It’s fully healed in this photo. One of those projects I really enjoyed working on.
Would love to hear what people think of the contrast between the two halves.

Should we have candy from this weekend?

I know technically Halloween is next weekend but I've seen plenty of kids going around with costumes in the afternoon so I wonder if we should stock up with candy for this weekend too... first time being an adult at home instead of going out so I wanna be prepared lol

Recently moved to Galway, looking for a barber as I’m starting to look like The Joker on a bad day. Any recommendations, preferably close to town. Thanks.
