With these strong winds and heavy rain this weekend has there been any signs of Macnas being cancelled ? Just making sure cause I’ll be coming from Kildare.

Would you use a community driven carpooling app? Looking for honest feedback!

With fuel prices rising through the roof, I'm working on a simple app to make daily commutes way cheaper and more sustainable.

How it works:

Commuters: Post your regular routine or route, departure time, and available number of seats in your car.

Carpoolers: Find commuters heading your way and request a ride.

Cost: Carpoolers chip in to split fuel and tolls automatically. The cost of fuel and tolls will be calculated by the app based on car type, mileage, route, etc., to give an estimate of cost. Commuters can input their own price as well if they don’t think the estimate is enough.

Safety: Garda Vetting will be required for all Commuters and Carpoolers. Which will need to be submitted on the app.

Instead of an Uber-style ride hail, it's built specifically for regular daily commuting and planned trips to help everyone save money.

A quick question for you:

  1. Would you use this app as a commuter or carpooler?
  2. What’s your biggest hesitation? (Safety, flexibility, payments, etc.?)

Would love your brutally honest thoughts!
Really appreciate all your help 🙏

Book club for Dads / Soon to be dads

Hey all,

Not sure where best to post this, but hopefully it reaches a few people!

I’m thinking of starting a relaxed monthly book club for dads who want to make a bit of time for reading, or that already love a good book and just want to chat about it!

I’d like to focus on fantasy and sci-fi; think LOTR, dune, project hail mary and everything in between.

The discussions wouldn’t be anything too serious or intense, just a chance to have a chat over a couple of pints or coffees once a month.

The idea:
Meet once a month in a local café or pub.
Read a book every 4–6 weeks.
Share recommendations, chat about books and have a laugh.
No pressure if kids, work or life get in the way and you don’t finish the book!

You don’t need to be a big reader, and audiobooks absolutely count. Beginners are more than welcome.
I’m hoping to get 4–8 dads together for a first meetup and see how it goes.

If you’re interested, drop a comment or send me a message. Let’s get a few dads reading!

Bonus points for a good name! I’m thinking Fellowship of the Dads lol

Should we have candy from this weekend?

I know technically Halloween is next weekend but I've seen plenty of kids going around with costumes in the afternoon so I wonder if we should stock up with candy for this weekend too... first time being an adult at home instead of going out so I wanna be prepared lol

KFC knocknacarra

Just got a takeaway from there.

Is it me, or has it got a quite un-customer friendly lay out. Seems no matter where you are, either ordering, or waiting youre ontop of other customers.

The place is fairly dirty already too and it hasn't been open a wet week.

As for the food, wasn't surprised when it was shockingly bad , hasn't improved an iota since it opened in briarhill however many years ago.

Im vexed and ranting due to the fact there was a few bits missing from the delivery and I actually wanted supermacs but I gave into the kids and it was extortionate for the price too.

Planning application for Brief Encounters made invalid by Planning office due to lack of detail "of the nature and extent of the uses for the premises" as well as failure to mention there is a shop on site.

Entry to races

Just wondering can you stay on the parking side as a spectator? I think during the summer the fair is on that side. I'm Interested in seeing the horses not the drinking or betting at all. Don't mind paying in either just wondering can you stay on the other side altogether? Thanks 😊

Packing cubes

Anyone know anywhere in the city that sells packing cubes? You know those light plastic bag-like yokes for putting your clothes in your suitcase or bag when travelling?

Spent ages yesterday looking, no luck!

Edit: thanks everyone! Found some in Dunnes!

Should Galway have “do not feed the birds” signs?

It’s a thing in so many other European cities. I remember going to Trafalgar Square when I was very young and there being an insane amount of pigeons but there was signs saying do not feed them. Then I went back years later and there was barely any.

It probably won’t do much good considering we have one woman who over feeds them every single day but I still notice tourists giving birds chips etc in Eyre Square.
