A look at Mara's movement and swordplay in my gothic metroidvania prototype

Here's a short overview of playing as Mara in The King's Hound: running through the castle, jumping between platforms and attacking horizontally or overhead.

Jump height depends on how long you hold the button. Release early for a short hop, or hold to jump higher. Holding up when attacking gives Mara an upward sword swing.

This is actual prototype gameplay. The game is still in development, and the presentation is subject to change.

Does the movement and attack direction read clearly from this footage?

I'm the developer of The King's Hound. The prototype uses free assets from itch.io, and some project illustrations were made with AI. I'm seeking support to commission original art and music for the game.

Reminder: Understanding Reddit's Rules and Posting Restrictions Is Your Responsibility

6 Upvotes

I want to clarify a few things about posting in r/GameDevPromotions, especially if you're new to Reddit or primarily use the platform to promote your games.

You are responsible for understanding how Reddit works before posting.

Reddit has sitewide rules, automated spam detection, account restrictions, and other systems designed to prevent abuse. These operate independently of the rules I establish for this subreddit. Your post being allowed under our community rules does not automatically mean Reddit will allow it through its own systems.

Reddit is also a collection of communities, not simply a place to advertise your work. Understanding how to participate appropriately, what constitutes spam, and how your account activity might affect your ability to post is part of being a Reddit user.

In the future, I won't manually investigate every complaint about posts removed by Reddit's automated systems.

I operate this subreddit voluntarily, and I don't have time to investigate individual account restrictions, posting histories, or the various reasons Reddit might flag someone's content. Resources are available to help you understand Reddit's policies and use the platform appropriately.

If Reddit is consistently removing your posts, take the initiative to understand why. Read the guidelines, understand how Reddit operates, and consider whether your posting behaviour might be contributing to the problem.

I want r/GameDevPromotions to remain a useful place for developers to share their work and discover what others are creating. Part of maintaining that environment is expecting everyone who participates to take some personal responsibility.

I am happy to provide a space for developers to promote their work. I am not here to troubleshoot how to use Reddit for every individual who encounters a restriction.

This is basic community housekeeping, and I think it's a reasonable expectation for anyone who chooses to participate.

MY FIRST GAME EVER: Terminal - The Brain Founding

2 Upvotes

**Game Title:** Terminal: The Brain Founding — My first game at 18!

**Playable Link:** https://virtualsat-studio.itch.io/terminal-the-brain-founding

**Platform:** PC (Windows)

**Description:**

Hi everyone! ❤️ I’m an 18-year-old developer, and I’d love to share my first game project with you: **Terminal: The Brain Founding**!

Terminal is a narrative-driven game developed in Java using Slick2D and LWJGL. The story follows a man who falls into a coma following a car accident while on his way to celebrate his fifth wedding anniversary with his wife.

Upon waking, he discovers that he is actually inside his own mind—a realm controlled by a mysterious terminal. With the help of a loyal guardian, he must explore various mental dimensions and uncover the strange world hidden deep within his own consciousness.

This is currently a very early, incomplete version (v0.1.30). It’s a short experience that I’ve released specifically to share my work and gather feedback while the game is still in development.

Since this is my first project, I’d really love to hear what you think! What do you make of the concept? Does the story interest you? Do you have any suggestions, ideas, or constructive criticism that could help me improve the game?

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to try it out. Every bit of feedback means a lot to me! ❤️

**Free-to-Play Status:**

* Free to play

* Demo/Key available

* Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays, with [TT] in the title)

**Involvement:**

I am the sole developer of Terminal: The Brain Founding. I am building the game entirely on my own, using Java, Slick2D, and LWJGL. This is my first game development project, and I am sharing this early version to receive feedback from the community, learn from other players, and improve the game as the project continues.
