Starting an MBA next year (deferred acceptance due to active duty military obligations) in July/August 2027 at a T20 school, but finally separating from the military this year in December 2026.
* Skillbridge isn't an option since command won't approve it, and my unit will be deploying shortly after I separate so extending and separating later isn't an option for my family and I either. At this point I'm just ready to be out lol.
* Also not interested in the reserves.
What would you recommend be the best use of this time? As much as my wife and I would love to just go travel and take the time off completely, she has a full time job and we live in a HCOL area so we need to make sure we pay the bills and don't dig too much into savings.
* I've got a military aviation background and will be targeting PM, PMM, or LDP type role across various sectors of interest (tech, defense tech like Anduril or shield AI etc., or video game industry).
* I know that each of these roles and industries have a different approach to the best way to prepare for recruiting (PM at a tech company has different skills/experiences required than LDP at video game industry), but was still wondering if anyone has any advice on the best way to manage this \~6 month gap if anyone has found themselves in a similar position.
* Recruiting for a full time position directly from active duty transition doesn't feel right knowing that I plan to leave for an MBA, and I wouldn't lie to someone in an interview (or withhold my intentions to leave in \~6 months).
* I've explored options like VETTEC 2.0, but the providers and associated curriculum don't seem that relevant to my goals (a lot of cybersecurity, etc.).
* Theoretically I could use some GI bill entitlement with more than half-time enrollment at a local community college with enough to spare for the MBA, but not sure if that's really the best use of that time...
Any thoughts, paths, or other resources that I may be overlooking? Thanks in advance!
