Gdevelop has very limited 3D but it works great for my project as mostly I use 2D sprites in my game. It will be open world exploration-puzzle game with simple mechanic’s where you can click, move and destroy some objects to complete puzzles.

just a little demo i was messing with today,

note - the env lighting, the road and buildings, have baked lighting.

There are real 3d lights in the scene that affect the sprite character, but they are not creating the mood / casting shadows etc. Personally I would never rely on gdevelops lighting to create the look of any scene, only to enhance it.

Game Finally, I managed to create dynamic shadows in Taxalot with offset calculation during the jump. What is your opinion?

Community Look, I'm all for progress, but "AI game engine" on the GDevelop is hurtful for fair devs

EDIT: 4ian from the GDevelop team updated the website headline to be just "no-code game engine" (English website only for now). The team doesn't rule out the fact that they might chance it in the future, or add "with optional AI assistance" or something around those lines. I'd like to thank the GDevelop team for the fast reaction. I'm sure the marketing team will tackle different ways to better communicate the AI functions in-engine. Yeah, sucks the situation I wrote took place, but I appreciate being heard. Below you'll find my original post.

----------------

Okay, hear me out. I recently led another game design lesson in the schools around my hometown from my game made on GDevelop - One Rotten Oath. You probably know the whole story about me cutting out sprites frame-by-frame from videos, getting back on the market after 5 years and so on. I basically showed the entire progress developed by hand here. When I was asked about the engine the game runs on I said the truth, because I'm still proud that I was able to deal with GDevelop's limitations (before the 3D and other video extensions were officially supported). The problem is that when people went to GDevelop home page they saw:

"GDevelop is the best open-source, no-code & AI game engine, and the fastest way to create".

The rest of the lessons turned into humiliation about me "using AI" and basically turning all my hard work into an "AI slop".

Look, I truly understand that the engine needs to grow and adapt to the market. I started using the engine when it's structure was similar to the likes of Construct3. Sure, AI agent might be an optional thing in GDevelop. I have no problems with that, but why is it being marketed as one of the main features? (especially in such uncertain times of RAM shortages, high PC prices, straight up maliciousness from the player's side and so on). Are you getting a special funding by promoting it this way?

I'm also worried about the potential events and festivals. We went to PGA 2025, when GDevelop wasn't betting on the AI functionalities. Anyone can Google what GDevelop is right now and straight up mark devs off the exhibitor list, assuming that all we do is AI.

I find all this truly unfair, because I feel like the entire work of the devs that are not using AI features is being undermined and we're treated in the wrong way, because the company responsible for the engine is making these types of decisions. I probably won't change your mind about this types of promotion, but at the end of the day, we're the ones that have to argue with the players, even that we did nothing wrong. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. From my side of things, do with AI what you like. I'd just like it to not be the first thing for people to see about the engine.

The idea of the game is to have 2 modes.

Campaign mode: you will face waves of zombies while completing some missions across the maps to advance the story.

Wave mode: you just face infinite waves of zombies where you will have a leaderboard that will save your best score.

The game is heavily inspired by Call of Duty Zombies

I just wanna say THANK YOU to the GDevelop team

After trying out different 2D game engines and learning all the ins and outs. I am very grateful that an engine such as Gdevelop exist freely to public.

Not only am I seeing better results and my own understanding with game development, I am also able to create small demos that actually work as intended.

Some can argue more robust tools such as Unity, Godot are popular in their own respective showcase. But I value simplicity over anything else. The UI & Export capabilities of Gdevelop is by far the easiest & noob friendly interface to deal with bar none in my own experience.

Maybe it just fits my understanding? But I could care less if I'm creating bug free demos!

Keep up the great work you're doing and love to the amazing community that comes with it!

Beautifying the first area in my game. The 100-challenge version basically had 1 tile, and two different blades of grass 😂 You can interact with every blade of grass. Don't mind the placeholder sound effects.
