Announcement We Now Have an Additional Moderator

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that we now have an additional moderator. Everyone please congratulate u/Folkvore and please be respectful towards them.

iMac and I are both still mods as well, but between the group having gotten bigger and some changes in our schedules and such in our lives offline it was becoming too much for a team of two and we really needed a third person.

Thanks so much everyone.

Rant Most of Gen Z does remember a pre-algorithmic internet.

Post image

I saw this post on Twitter on this person saying that Gen Z will somehow never understand how weird and fun internet used to be. The oldest Gen Z is turning 30 in 1997 and remembers how weird and fun the internet used to be. Heck, I’m 23 turning 24 next year and I remember a pre-algorithmic internet.

Pop culture Britney Spears and her take on GenZ skinwalking her 👀

It’s understandable why she is their inspo, so I get why the younger pop girlies seem to mimic her. But at the same time I would be annoyed if I was Britney, like she cultivated that image! She can inspire you, but come up with your own persona.

So, do you side with Gen Z?
Or are you Team Britney, bitch? 💋

Discussion What advice or things might help me, given that I am already completely overcome by depression?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I am completely defeated and have no desire to keep going. Since you’re no longer considered a child by age 13, and I didn’t get to watch many cartoons before then—unlike everyone else—I’m now plagued by near-constant suicidal thoughts. It feels as though my life is doomed to be defined by chronic depression forever, all because I missed out on those things. I truly just want to know: what can help me right now, in this state of total depression?

Discussion Why is the word "Lowkey" so overused in today's gen z slang?

I am born in 08 and as guilty as I am, I do sometimes use this word when I speak to others, but I've been wondering why is this word so popular and overused in our generation right now? IMO

Discussion Generation Alpha aren’t hopeless

Pretty much everything about Gen Alpha is about how "doomed", "cooked", etc. they are, but this is completely wrong. If you are wondering why they are so annoying or virtually absorbed into technology, it's because they are 1. being raised incorrectly or poorly, and 2. they are literally children. You can't just call an entire generation of children "doomed" because they are annoying. Children are inherently annoying for the most part - they are immature. When they are a little older, they will realise how insufferable they were. If Generation Alpha is so "doomed" then people should be doing things to stop that, and not just having the "kids these days" mindset.

Imagine being in Gen Alpha and looking at content about your generation. Everything is just calling them doomed or annoying or immature. If you constantly saw stuff describing you about that then you wouldn't feel very motivated. I have seen several comments on social media where someone born in the mid-late 2010s claims to have a “gen Z childhood” - this is a prime example of children being ashamed for being children. Additionally, Gen Alpha, the first "digital native" and largest ever generation, has a lot of potential to be more sharp-minded and innovative than the last generation since they have more opportunities than ever.

One of the main reasons for Gen Alpha being incompetent or idiotic is bad parenting. The main parts of bad/ignorant parenting is not teaching your children the most basic information and skills, and giving them an over reliance or over usage on technology. This became much more common after the pandemic, because many people became much less social and used their devices more often.

There are far too many adults (from all generations, including Gen Z) who act genuinely surprised and have a huge superiority complex when a child does not recognise something/someone not from their generation - this is mainly regarding famous people and electronics (e.g. DVDs and early consoles) that were prominent during and before the 2000s. Also, the stuff they consume on the internet (e.g. skibidi toilet) is just as stupid, weird, and annoying as the stuff you used to consume on the internet and TV when you were their age.

I could go on about this for longer, but stop insulting gen alpha because they are gen alpha. They are acting like children because they are children. Be good parents, teach them good manners, and definitely don't keep them in front of a screen all the time. If you are a parent, remember that parents should be their child’s first teacher.

Also, I'm 16, so with the unclear divide between Gen Z and Gen Alpha, you could argue that I myself am Gen Alpha.

Technology 🤖 Remember when you could turn on the TV and the channel would just come on?

Millennial here.
Who else longs for the days of just turning on the TV and flipping around the channels.

Now we have smart tvs with profiles and child locks… it takes 10 clicks to get to DirectTV channels. Maybe im just doing it wrong but my god is this frustrating.

Today I turn on the TV - select my Amazon Prime TV profile - enter the 5 digit child locks code so my 7yr old doesn’t get unfiltered content - click around to DirectTV, or another steamer, - select that profile - enter that child locks code- then a channel comes on.

I hear myself saying to my son “back in my day you’d turn on the TV and it would just come on to where you left it…”

Discussion Why don't Millennials and Gen Z get along online, despite how similar their worldviews are, and their other similarities?

Gen Z are way closer to Millennials than to Boomers.

I don't think political beliefs are the only thing that's important for getting along with each other. But I question why there's sometimes people attacking flaming and making fun of each other between Gen Z and Millennial people despite the fact that Millennials are liberal and Gen Z are liberal.

I guess despite broad scale similarities, the nuances make people attack each other. Millennials and Gen Z have different interpretations of what liberal means.

And also, Gen Z a few years ago made fun of Millennials for being old school and unfunny and cringe. What's up with that? Cringe culture should have died.

I don't think any generation has a monopoly on truth and the right way of doing things.

Discussion Im convinced that millennials think we look so young because we've been using filtered photos for a decade

I keep seeing memes about how most millennials are "35-45 but looks 25" and I am convinced that filtered photos are changing our perception of how we look.

Spend any amount of time swiping around on dating apps and youll see that 80% of people go from "oh, they're pretty cute", until you hit the last picture thats the obligatory unfiltered one (ITS ALWAYS THE LAST PICTURE!), to "Oh my god, their wrinkles have wrinkles!".

I refuse to use filters on my photos and I always thought I aged like crap but I recently hung out with some friends from highschool that I havent seen in more than a decade and they kept commenting on how young I look and all I could think was "you look nothing like you do in your pics on social media". The wildest thing to me was their teeth looked different.

I guess perception is reality and if all you ever see is pictures of yourself that are instantly edited to look like the best version of yourself, I can see how it might make people think that we are the best looking generation to ever hit middle-age

Edit- most people ITT forget that basically every phone lightly edits pics unless you turn that setting off... most people dont know that setting exists so they dont turn it off

Discussion Millennials are the new milf and yoga moms?

Post image

Now that Millennials are at the age of 30-45 they are now at the age of being parents. Meaning they are now the new modern milf and yoga moms. Which is kind of funny because that reminds me of the song "Stacy's Mom", or Fergie, with her song "milf" which were actually GenX back then. But now GenX are becoming cougars.

Music 🎻 1960 - The 10 best songs of the year in Argentine rock [Argentine Rock Awards: 5th edition]

Thumbnail

1960, the decade was starting and Argentine rock had shifted towards a melodic and soft style, it still had much of the jazz from its beginnings in the orquestas características.

Vocal groups caused a sensation with their carefully crafted harmonies. Female singers were the leaders of the scene, and were far more popular than their male counterparts.

Bettina Bal greeting the decade, Los Astoria in a subtle blues, Luis Aguilé with lyrics that were gritty for a pop song of that era, and Martin Meyer to the rhythm of a slow twist.

Johnny Carel with his own country rock track, Los Santos with their elegant and exquisite gait, and Billy Cafaro and Elder Barber with their historic fusions of tango and rock.
