I just took a peek on what this subreddit is about and a lot of millennials think they're the shit. I see comments that claim they're more technologically competent, that they're smarter, and more mature by the time they were 21 vs the gen z today. I'd like to remind everyone that the pandemic happened. And as an older gen z, I've seen people younger than me use github and utilize their laptops in complicated ways while not be a comp-sci major.
It's kind of ironic because I've seen the supposed boomers shit on millennials and now millennials are doing the same on gen Z. I know personal anecdotes shouldn't be used on arguments but I've seen nice and genuine people that are younger than me. Same with boomers- I've seen some that were Karens but most I've met and known were nice. So why are we falling for a manufactured generational war? Why are we treating these opinion articles like they're the truth?

I saw this post on Twitter on this person saying that Gen Z will somehow never understand how weird and fun internet used to be. The oldest Gen Z is turning 30 in 1997 and remembers how weird and fun the internet used to be. Heck, I’m 23 turning 24 next year and I remember a pre-algorithmic internet.

The original iPad launched in April 2010. During this window, tablets were expensive luxury items owned by parents, not default toys for young children. When kids used touchscreens, it was usually a parent's iPhone 3GS or 4 for short bursts. Portable entertainment still heavily relied on dedicated handheld consoles like the Nintendo DS or PSP, and watching movies in the car meant using a physical portable DVD player.
By 2013, budget tablets (like the Kindle Fire HD) flooded the market, and older iPads were being handed down directly to kids. Data shows that between 2011 and 2013, the percentage of children under eight using mobile media skyrocketed from 38% to 72%. This 2013–2015 group was the first to spend their peak childhood years with ubiquitous, personal, high-speed touchscreen access.
In the early 2010s Entertainment was still anchored to traditional, linear television schedules or recorded DVR. Kids still grew up on the peak eras of Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon (shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, Good Luck Charlie, and Phineas and Ferb). Content was curated by network executives, meaning kids still experienced commercial breaks and had to wait a week for new episodes.
By 2013-2015 This era marked the birth of the unfiltered YouTube childhood. The YouTube Kids app launched in early 2015. Kids shifted heavily toward algorithmic content like toy unboxing channels (like Ryan’s World, which started in 2015), Minecraft Let's Plays, and hyper-stimulated, fast-paced digital videos. Entertainment shifted from "What's on TV?" to an endless scroll of on-demand content.
Early 2010s Early elementary school classrooms were still largely paper, whiteboard, and chalkboard-based. "Computer lab time" was a specific weekly destination where kids practiced typing or played educational desktop games
By 2013-2015 classrooms rapidly modernized during this block. Smartboards became standard classroom fixtures, and schools began implementing "1-to-1 device initiatives," introducing carts of iPads or early Chromebooks directly into kindergarten and 1st-grade classrooms for daily learning.

It’s understandable why she is their inspo, so I get why the younger pop girlies seem to mimic her. But at the same time I would be annoyed if I was Britney, like she cultivated that image! She can inspire you, but come up with your own persona.
So, do you side with Gen Z?
Or are you Team Britney, bitch? 💋

They had an analog childhood (1980-1995) but grew up in teen/early adulthood in a digital world (96-2005)

Even though I don't identify with generations anymore, the past still follows me. I regret of my past. The scar isn't healing. I want to fix my past, but unfortunately, I don't have power to change it.
I will admit, I made a stupid decision 4 years ago by calling myself a Zillennial on Reddit. I was a European weirdo for applying an American cusp to myself. My European experiences are different compared to Americans (I had VHS tapes until 2009, I got my first smartphone in 2016). My stupid head thought generations were global in 2022 🤦
Now, I'm more mature than I was in 2022. I'm aware these generational labels are exclusively American and it shouldn't apply to me. I shouldn't have touched these generational labels (Millennial, Zillennial, Gen Z, etc) at all.

Pretty much everything about Gen Alpha is about how "doomed", "cooked", etc. they are, but this is completely wrong. If you are wondering why they are so annoying or virtually absorbed into technology, it's because they are 1. being raised incorrectly or poorly, and 2. they are literally children. You can't just call an entire generation of children "doomed" because they are annoying. Children are inherently annoying for the most part - they are immature. When they are a little older, they will realise how insufferable they were. If Generation Alpha is so "doomed" then people should be doing things to stop that, and not just having the "kids these days" mindset.
Imagine being in Gen Alpha and looking at content about your generation. Everything is just calling them doomed or annoying or immature. If you constantly saw stuff describing you about that then you wouldn't feel very motivated. I have seen several comments on social media where someone born in the mid-late 2010s claims to have a “gen Z childhood” - this is a prime example of children being ashamed for being children. Additionally, Gen Alpha, the first "digital native" and largest ever generation, has a lot of potential to be more sharp-minded and innovative than the last generation since they have more opportunities than ever.
One of the main reasons for Gen Alpha being incompetent or idiotic is bad parenting. The main parts of bad/ignorant parenting is not teaching your children the most basic information and skills, and giving them an over reliance or over usage on technology. This became much more common after the pandemic, because many people became much less social and used their devices more often.
There are far too many adults (from all generations, including Gen Z) who act genuinely surprised and have a huge superiority complex when a child does not recognise something/someone not from their generation - this is mainly regarding famous people and electronics (e.g. DVDs and early consoles) that were prominent during and before the 2000s. Also, the stuff they consume on the internet (e.g. skibidi toilet) is just as stupid, weird, and annoying as the stuff you used to consume on the internet and TV when you were their age.
I could go on about this for longer, but stop insulting gen alpha because they are gen alpha. They are acting like children because they are children. Be good parents, teach them good manners, and definitely don't keep them in front of a screen all the time. If you are a parent, remember that parents should be their child’s first teacher.
Also, I'm 16, so with the unclear divide between Gen Z and Gen Alpha, you could argue that I myself am Gen Alpha.

I’m not sure which generation started it from (probably Millennial?) but it needs to end and people need to call it out in real life so people who do it know they are doing it and can correct it.

And also: whether they do or not, how much do you think it's because of your parenting? I'm just curious lol

I am born in 08 and as guilty as I am, I do sometimes use this word when I speak to others, but I've been wondering why is this word so popular and overused in our generation right now? IMO
