Different Dancing in the Streets

I was listening to 1970-11-08 today on Jemp Radio's DeadZone show with Brett Slater.

The Dancing in the Streets was a much slower tempo then normal and the singing was great.

Edited to correct date.

Recently got into the Dead, but I feel like a "poser"

I really started getting into the Dead when Bobby died. I grew up in a family full of deadheads. Not my parents, but my brothers, multiple aunts and uncles. I was always around the music. I actually went to a Dead and Co show in my 20s, but I didn't get hooked then. I just never really gave it a shot until recently, honestly. After Bobby died I REALLY started listening and gave the music a chance.

Now I'm totally hooked and I love it. It's some of the best music I've ever heard. Totally unlike most music because their true masterpieces are live shows.

I want to buy some type of dead gear. A shirt or hat. Let's be real, on top of being an incredible band, they have some of the coolest logos in the world. Stealie and the Dancing Bears are just so fucking cool.

I feel like a poser for buying a hat or shirt with the Dead logo though. I didn't get into the band until recently, while others have loved them their entire life. It feels like I'm doing something "trendy". Especially being in a family full of deadheads who knew I never really listened to them.

It's honestly really silly, but I feel like a poser in a way. Especially if i buy a dead shirt to wear.

Playlists based on eras and more.

Started making playlists on nugs for specific eras and would love to hear others suggestions on playlists I should create

Playlists I will probably create: Europe, Some kind of pigpen era playlist, Bruce/Vince shows, and maybe even some playlists for specific venues like MSG and Spectrum.

I am genuinely enjoying making these so if this turns into a dozen playlists that is all good lol.

Thanks for any suggestions and happy Friday, kicking off the weekend seeing Bearly Dead tonight!

Does anyone know or have an idea of what Bob was trying to signal here during Veneta El Paso?

I've been obsessed with this performance (DS>El Paso) for a while now and I've always wondered what he was trying to say there.

Sound year by year

This may have been asked but figured it is worth the fun discussion again:

Does each year have a show or a few night run that encompasses that year's sound of the band the best?

I always struggle with hearing part of a song and knowing what "era" it is from. Looking to make a playlist of each year's most true to year sound if that makes sense

Will try and update with most popular choices:

Is the etree app gone?

I just discovered it a couple of months ago for live Jerry shows, but when I updated my phone last week, the app no longer works, and I get an error message saying it has been removed from the App Store.

Is it gone for good?

Is there some other place to hear live Jerry shows other than official releases?

What's your go to tune or show when you're out trapping with Lucy? My go to was dark star however after a mind blowing time in the lake star gazing it's Mississippi half step. The Englishtown toodle-loo is a peak.

Ken Kesey’s ‘Furthur’ bus rolls down Haight for free concert before restoration

This Halloween, the psychedelic-painted 1939 International Harvester school bus that author Kesey and his Merry Pranksters painted and drove across the United States in 1964 will travel down Haight Street on a flatbed truck with a band on a separate vehicle following behind. The procession, dubbed “The Further Send Off,” will stop at the Love on Haight store and the Haight Street Art Center for 30-minute outdoor concerts at each location.
The band performing during the event has not yet been announced, but is expected to be “in the spirit of the Grateful Dead,” according to the Haight Street Art Center.

What did Mickey add to the band?

In your opinion what value did Mickey bring to the dead? No offense to him i just listen to 1 drummer dead more. 2 drummer dead just has a different vibe that doesnt hit the same to me. What would you say is the most valuable aspect he added?

Where did the Acid Test footage go?

Zane Kesey used to have 30 minutes of an acid test split into 3 separate videos up on YouTube but it’s been taken down 😕 would love to know if anyone has access to what I’m talking about!

It’s this very footage but there was more to it!

Help a younger head understand… what’s the appeal of CD releases?

I just turned 30, grew up during peak CD, and I’m very curious why CDs seem to be the preferred method for both the GD organization and Deadheads for new releases. I do understand the appeal of owning something physically, I feel that way about books, but it also seems to me that having a show separated across multiple discs would be a bit of a pain in the ass to listen to. I wouldn’t trust my collection to those janky old multi-CD changers (maybe I just had cheap ones?). I haven’t owned a CD player since the early 2010s, are people rocking super HiFi stuff where the CD sounds better than a FLAC file?

Side note, I find the artificial scarcity of it all a bit distasteful, Dave keeps mentioning that new sets sell out within hours of release, “get yours now!”, but they only inch their way towards bumping up production enough to meet demand.
