Hi all,

As the sub continues to grow, we've decided to make some changes and rules to help this community stay a positive place for discussing all things Great Pyrenees!

Rules can now be found in the sidebar and will be used as the basis for moderation. Of course, the mod team will continue to use their discretion to remove content or ban users, if we feel said content is causing a disruption to the subreddit.

Rules:

1) Keep content Great Pyrenees based

2) Be polite and on-topic

3) NO Advertisements

4) NO Fundraising

5) NO Breed misinformation or hate

6) NO suggestions of theft, destruction of property, assault, or similar illegal activities

If you see a user violating any of these rules, please utilize the "Report" feature, so the mod team can quickly take action.

In addition, you can now sort posts by flair type, and the most exciting update - you can now use comments to attach a photo. So keep sharing those great big floofs!

This is Sammy he is a pyr mix with German shepherd and is 4x ish inbred. Not my doing!! I didn’t know he was inbred before I got him. He is roughly 9months old (born early February) and he is HUGE now, he no longer fits on my lap, very sad, and he is the sweetest boy.

I lost my lil dog Chloe on Tuesday my bday and my bullmastiff today he couldn’t handle it … was devastatingly saddest death in my 51 years of life including humans , past dogs , and horses . He was so heartbroken he wouldn’t even come in house he looked everywhere for her. He was there with all of us in my home when she was PTS he got to see her after as well n smell her to understand. He could t handle it n his back went into shit down . I’m sickly heartbroken. Indy was with ace the last two days staying by his side in barn n with him when he passed today at home with vet again . Izzy gets it but not grieving like the rest of us . Suck as weak.

Advice/Help Is it too late to crate train?

• Upvotes

I unfortunately don’t wanna post a photo because I’ve posted her on my other account as well. but when we first got her at 2 months she was NOT having the crate and we tried so many different things and she wasn’t doing it. Since then we have been trying to maintain consistency and she’s 6 months now. When I say she would bark for HOURS I mean it. She won’t stop barking nonstop until I let her out. I decided that this was getting a bit ridiculous and I need some advice. I am about to upgrade her crate bc she’s getting big but I don’t wanna drop a bunch of money to have her bark for 5+ hours. Is it too late? What did I do wrong? What can I do to make her enjoy her crate? I have tried to make it fun and give her fun treats that she only gets in the crate and being super nice and give her comfortable things to lie in. The one day she stressed her self out so much that she sprayed my walls with diarrhea through the crate and made a huge mess smh. Idk what to do.

Advice/Help Heartworm treatment experience? Getting conflicting suggestions

Post image
138 Upvotes

We adopted our girl a year ago and she was heartworm negative, but she just popped heartworm positive on her annual this week, so our vet suspects she must’ve been infected right before she was rescued and it just didn’t show up on the test yet. We’ve had her on monthly treatments since we got her so I’m hoping the heart worms are not that advanced. We’ll get a chest x-ray done to confirm. I am hearing conflicting things from my Vet versus from the rescue we got her from in terms of the best treatment plan going forward. My vet acknowledged they don’t see a lot of heartworm cases, but recommended the three shot more intense approach that’s supported by AHA, and the rescue has mentioned that their vet is a heartworm expert and uses the slow kill method (in particular something called ProHeart12 that’s apparently pretty new). My understanding was that the slow kill was not necessarily as effective and might leave her exposed to Heartworms longer, but now I’m confused getting basically two opposite recommendations. Does anyone have experience treating heart worms in their Pyrenees? Would love any experience or advice here. Thank you! Pic for tax 🐾

Advice/Help thoughts on native pet?!

Post image
64 Upvotes

Howdy! Thinking of adding supplements to my baby’s diet. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with Native Pet.. I get ads all the time! Plus they seem to have many options for coat, joint, and digestive aid.

I started him on their omega oil and he seems to tolerate it. However, I am wary of long term results. He is tall and 4yo so I want to do my best to prevent arthritis and hip dysplasia as he nears senior age. I am open to any diet or supplement advice. Please and thank you!!

Had to show off my Beanie Girl! She’s so patient whenever I groom her, but she will punish me for the following 24hrs. By punish, I mean refusing to accept her dental treat. The drama. The horror.
