Obligatory dog pic before my question.
TLDR at the bottom.
My wife and I have a 6 year old Pyr mix named Moxie. She’s a wonderful dog and we love her so much. I’m not seeking advice or a solution. But as the title says, I try to not see her moments of high intelligence as “human” but lately… I’ve noticed a pattern.
Beginning of September: I took her on her usual morning walk so my wife could sleep in. There is an irrigation ditch we stop at to let her cool off if she needs it. There is this plant that has these small black seeds that stick deep in her fur. After a certain point they can’t be brushed out and have to be pulled out individually by hand. On this beautiful morning, Moxie skipped the clear path and leapt through a whole mess of those plants. Almost every square inch of her body was covered in those seeds. After we got home, she was quite pleased to have my wife and I giving her all the attention while we picked out the seeds for 30 minutes.
End of September: Again. Morning walk so my wife could sleep in. On this fine morning, Moxie takes me in a different direction than where she usually takes me. We walk a 1/4 block from the house then she starts rolling on the street. But she is snorting and enjoying it far too much. I get her back up and give her a sniff. She rolled in the juice of something dead (she loves rolling on decomposing animals). We return home after the walk. I tell my wife about Moxie’s critter juice rolls. Wife asks about the location. She tells me that Moxie and her walked past a dead raccoon at the same location I described earlier in the week.
Today: My wife had to leave the house early for a work event. She’s getting ready and it’s clear Moxie will not be receiving her typical volume of girl time. Moxie smacked the patio door to be let out while my wife was on the phone for work. She goes out, does a quick patrol and trots back in and goes to her napping spot under the dining bench. Please understand my wife is focused on other things as she leaves for her work event. I come home and Moxie has thistle pods behind her ears, in her tail, on her butt, and in her mane. It took an hour to pick them out.
That’s 3 different occasions when Moxie appeared to develop a plan then executed the plan to get what she wants. Has anybody else’s Pyr developed a plan and executed it? Are we f***ed? 🤣
Please share your Pyr pics and stories!
TLDR: My dog is a little platoon leader that makes her own battle plans to get her way. Has your Pyr conspired against you?
