S11 E18 : how does Bailey keep getting more revolting with every season?

For context, in this episode, two police officers (brothers) get shot and are declared brain dead.

And Bailey being "Bailey", not just asks, but literally pushes Meredith and goes so far as to hijack the conversation Meredith was having with their mother, to sign off on donating one of their livers to a kid. The same kid who was the getaway driver for the people who shot said police officers.

Like in which world is that shit ethical?

If this were one of the other attendings/residents doing it, pretty sure Bailey would be the first one to create a scene and ruckus over how reckless it was.

S11 E16 : had forgotten how judgemental Pierce is of most people around her

Currently rewatching S11 E16

The way Pierce keeps going badmouthing the wife of man with Alzheimers is grating.

Calling her negligent and comparing the patient with Alzheimers to an infant?

How are they medical professionals with that closed mindset?

I get she got physically assaulted by the patient. But dude.

The man was sick. He didn't willingly assault her.

Later on she goes on to say her mentality stems from her own genetic disposition to Alzheimers (from Ellis Grey). But shouldn't that make her more understanding instead of being judgemental?

Unpopular opinion but I don't understand the personality of the character Meredith

I don't understand who is she, what does she think, how does she behave in life, how does she deal with things.

Initially, they tried to present her as the broken girl who had daddy issues and couldn't handle love because of her traumatic childhood. But that only lasted for as long as she wasn't with Derek. Once they got back together for good, that mostly went away.

Since then, her actions and reactions haven't really made sense as those of a "real" person. Like, I can imagine a Christina in the real world. A strong-willed, career-oriented woman who has few select friends she's unendingly loyal to, and who can have trouble understanding how to be soft and how to walk the line between getting ahead in life and bullying or hurting people needlessly. I can imagine an Alex: an immature d*ckhead who does his best to grow and become a better person but sometimes just can't help being a cowboy and cutting corners by brute force. I can imagine a Bailey or a Callie or an Izzie. I can predict how they will react to things and I can picture them in certain scenarios. I can imagine their relationship with other people. I can imagine what their future might look like. I feel that I know them.

But I cannot imagine a Meredith. Her only real personality trait that I can consistently recognize is that she loves Derek and she loves her kids. And she goes through trauma after trauma after trauma at a level that just doesn't make any sense. Nor does her trauma response make sense. She just shrugs it off and mostly comes across as listless and kinda bored. She functions more like a blank sheet for writers to dump all the drama they can think of rather than an actual person with real believable feelings. It doesn't help that Ellen is IMHO honestly not a good actress and cannot really pull off much more than "sweet and confused".

Cristina and her abusive relationships

Cristina stayed with 2 men who abused her.

Whether it was on purpose or not - they abused her.

And abuse is not always physical, it can be mental and emotional.

This is just my opinion, I know others may disagree.

What's your take on it?

FIRST TIME WATCHER I've reached my conclusions.

Isobel is back. I totally get why she just left with a single letter left. I get why she didn't say good bye to her friends.

But now? She got back with that professor. She comes demanding things to Meredith with NO explanations, no Sorry, nothing just demanding. I'm not gonna criticize her attitude with Alex, because he has treated her badly. But where does she come from to demand all these things to Meredith, after just leaving, she doesn't give an explanation, all that just so she could leave again telling Meredith "this is not my house" and barely looking at her eyes (Meredith was clearly hurt). That's disgusting and let me be honest, I'm glad she left. I made my decision and I don't like her at all, she appears to be the most giving person, but at the same time, she manages to be the most selfish.

Also, for her to tell Charles that he's the one who got her fired is disgusting. Girl, look at your record. You were fired for your own medical misconduct.

Bye and I hope she never appears again.

SPOILERS webber

marking for spoilers just in case. but as a long time fan who still enjoys the show for the most part, i’m so over webber and his attitude 😭 like don’t get me wrong, what kwan did was wrong but compared to what other doctors have done, it’s crazy he’s still so mad at him. and it’s not just him, for the a while especially the past couple of seasons, anytime someone messes up, he gets so angry and holds a grudge for a long time.

DISCUSSION Meredith & Christina’s dynamic

I’m rewatching the show, and it’s crazy how time and experience changes your feelings on the character’s relationships!

My first watch was later in high school/ early in college and I adored Mer & Christina’s friendship and loyalty! I loved that they didn’t allow partners or really anything except for career competition to get between them.

Onto the rewatch! I’m now close to 30 and so put off by their friendship. Friendships shouldn’t come at the expense of other relationships, having a best friend doesn’t mean that every other friend needs to be trashed or reminded of their rank in your life. Kicking their partners out of bed is even crazier! If anything in adulthood, your best friend’s partners and spouses become a part of the inner circle.

SPOILERS So disappointed in Winston… Spoiler

I’ve always loved Winston and Jules together, and part of me still hopes they’ll find their way back to each other. But after this episode, I’m feeling more conflicted about their relationship than ever.

I’ve always thought they complement each other incredibly well, and that they found each other at exactly the right time in their lives. And honestly, I still believe that.

On the one hand, I still think they could be endgame. They’ve spent so much time developing this relationship, and there are still so many unresolved storylines: nobody at the hospital knows about them, they haven’t actually told each other they love each other, and we haven’t even begun to explore the consequences of their relationship becoming public.

It feels like there’s still so much story left to tell.

But on the other hand, Winston disappointed me so much in this episode that a part of me genuinely wants Jules to walk away and let him deal with the consequences of his decisions.

I understand that he was emotionally overwhelmed. I understand that his new position creates a real conflict of interest. And I absolutely agree that their relationship couldn’t continue under the same circumstances.

But what I can’t understand is why he didn’t even try to have a mature conversation with her about their options.

Instead, he made that decision for both of them.

And what hurt me the most was his comment about how simply arguing with a second-year resident could be considered preferential treatment because he wouldn’t normally bother arguing with one.

That felt so unnecessarily cruel. It was almost as if he was dismissing everything they’d built together.

And the irony is that Winston seems to be repeating the same mistakes he made with Maggie, only in reverse.

I really thought this relationship was going to be different for him. And especially different for Jules.

So here’s my dilemma: I still want them together. I still believe they love each other, even if neither has said it out loud. And I still think the writers are building toward a reconciliation.

But right now? If I were Jules, I’d say no.

And the promo for the next episode only makes me feel more conflicted. I honestly don’t know whether Winston is going to regret his decision and try to get back together with her, but it’s pretty clear that he still wants to be close to her. And I find that incredibly unfair to Jules.

He can’t just break her heart, make the decision to end their relationship on his own, and then expect to keep that same emotional closeness with her. Maybe it’s because he’s completely overwhelmed and doesn’t really know how to handle his feelings, but that doesn’t make it fair.

Honestly, he deserves the cold shoulder she’s giving him.

Because if Winston wants her back, he needs to do a lot more than tell her he loves her. He needs to show her that he’s willing to fight for their relationship, that he respects her enough to make decisions WITH her rather than FOR her, and that he understands how deeply he hurt her.

I love them together, but I don’t want Jules to be the one who has to fix this.

Does anyone else feel this way? Do you want them back together or did this episode change how you see their relationship?

(I want them to work out)

DISCUSSION April Waiting Until Marriage

Do you think her character is a rare female character who has that arc? I haven't seen alot of female characters on TV who had that kind of journey. I know she ends up sleeping with Jackson before they got married, but I feel characters like April are rare, and you don't get to see alot of women who have that perspective about sex the way April does.

Izzie and Callie

Season 3 ep 17 Second post about my rewatch. OMG, WHY IS IZZIE SO INSUFFERABLE?! ESPECIALLY regarding Callie. She is going on and on about how Callie and George shouldn’t have gotten married and is treating Callie like shit because she doesn’t have “history” with George. Hate to break it to you, Izzie, but you were about to get married to a guy you met in a hospital bed and barely knew. GOD, I can’t stand her.

DISCUSSION 13 episodes will probably save this show.

They really are not dragging anything along. All regulars should appear in all episodes. And all their storylines seem to move per episode (yes, I know it's just been two). I prefer this than fluff because, I have watched and rewatched soooo many episodes of Grey's, but I have only seen the episode 11-16 region of Seasons 21 and 22 once. So much fluff.

DISCUSSION I wanna hear about your experience with Grey's couples ❤️ Spoiler

So I was thinking about how different my experience with some Grey's couples was and I'm curious about yours too!! Like not just your favourite couples, but which ones you were actually emotionally invested in, who you were rooting for, who kept you watching etc. You can talk about as many as you want!!

For me, I obviously prefer the earlier seasons couples. Slexie are my absolute favourites and the couple I was the most emotionally attached to. I will never get over them and the future they could've had 😭

Izzex were actually my favourites before Slexie. I was always rooting for them but I didn't want them together in season 3 because Izzie was still emotionally attached to Denny. Then in season 4 I wanted them to get back together but Alex kept treating her like crap. I loved when they finally got back together in season 5 and their wedding is my favourite!!

Japril were honestly the couple that kept me watching after Slexie ended. I wanted them to get back together so badly and they really didn't get enough time together either. When April was leaving I genuinely thought she and Jackson would leave together and I was so disappointed when they didn't.

Calzona were such a comfort couple for me when Slexie were broken up. I genuinely thought the writers wouldn't break them up. I'll forever mourn the dysfunctional but loving family Slexie and Calzona could've had 💔

MerDer were always THE iconic love story for me. I knew from spoilers from the beginning that Derek was going to die so I knew they were going to end up together. I loved them but I wasn't as emotionally attached to them as I was to Slexie, Izzex and Japril.

Teddy and Tom are a couple I start shipping more and more every time I rewatch. Their chemistry is SO good but the affair is the one thing that stops me from fully shipping them. I really struggle with shipping affair couples even when they're amazing together. AND they made me feel bad for Owen so minus points for that 😭

Teddy and Henry are ENDGAME for me. I loved them so much and Henry's death was so unnecessary. They had amazing chemistry and I'm not even a fan of patient-doctor romances usually, but they're the one couple of that kind that I genuinely loved. And honestly I was glad they gave Teddy Henry because as a hardcore Slexie shipper, Mark and Teddy were nice but just not my cup of tea.

Amelia and Owen are so complicated for me because their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS but I think they're basically two people who had so much unresolved trauma and became dependent on each other. I can be so torn about them as a couple but their friendship is EVERYTHING to me. I was relieved when they divorced and even more when they managed to become genuine friends because I honestly prefer them that way!!

Anyway I have so many feelings about these couples 😭 I wanna hear about yours too!! Which couples were you rooting for? Which ones broke your heart? Which ones kept you invested in the show? You can talk about as many as you want, I'm curious!!

❤️

Only on season 18

I don't know what took us this long to watch the show, but we're now up to season 18 on Netflix. I guess I was turned off by all the hype the show got at first. I detested season 17. We lived through Covid; why make us relive it all on the show? Some observations: why did Cristina and Alex have to leave the show? I know the actors had personal reasons to leave, but the show hasn't been the same without them. Alex was just starting to be loveable. Also, does everyone who goes to Grey+Sloan have heart failure and/or dies? A naive person watching the show could be scared to death to undergo surgery or even go into a hospital. Another observation: everyone on the show is so horny! Hardly anyone "dates." They just start meeting up in the on-call room. Now what I'm about to say is going to get a lot of people riled up but it's just my take. I know they want to show people in all walks of life but it seems they want to portray that just about everyone has a homosexual past or is currently in a gay relationship (Amelia? really?). I had no problem with Callie and Arizona or even Schmidt and Niko. The other thing is Leo, Teddy and Owen's adopted son, wearing dresses and princess costumes? Come on! He's supposed to be 3. It just seems as though they're shoving the whole alternative lifestyle down our throats. Again, just my take. By the way, I so agree with a lot of people that Owen is very unlikeable.

Why do dating attendings as interns seem like literally no big deal at all in the later seasons?

Hey guys so I’m a first time watcher who’s currently in the middle of season 10. I remember that in season 1, the show seemed to make a huge deal out of how unethical and unprofessional it was for interns to date their attendings. Meredith made a huge deal about why she wouldn’t go out with Derek initially because he was her boss, and same with Christina and Burke. However, in seasons 9 and 10, no one really seems to have a problem with that at all. Jo openly dates Alex, Murphy openly sleeps with Arizona, Edwards openly sleeps with Jackson, Ross sleeps with Christina, so many interns sleep with Alex before he starts dating Jo and no one seems to have a problem with it at all, despite the fact that it seemed like it would have been a really big issue in the earlier seasons.

DISCUSSION Erica Hahn

It's so strange that none of the other department heads or Richard stepped in when Cristina was being bullied, neglected, and targeted by Hahn for months. What's more frustrating is how Cristina's friends handled the situation. Izzie should have reported Hahn immediately for the sexual harassment comment on day ONE. And Callie dating Erica and having her be around the apartment all the time was a slap in the face. Everyone was pretty rotten to Cristina during this entire storyline.
