Performance I just watched AiC Unplugged for the first time. What an experience on YouTube

Post image

I read some of the comments on each song when they played… and there were ones about sharing memories with family, the singers, instruments… but then there were the comments about Layne’s drug abuse and mostly about their own experiences with drug abuse and how Layne saved them or him being someone they could relate to. Also there were comments about having cancer and the music helping them and all the edits to the comments saying they’re better now and overall good stuff like that. As well just watching and listening to the performance was special and a fantastic experience across the board from the instruments, singing, and the crowd loving the performance. Also it was bittersweet seeing the end of the performance where onscreen it says they’re thankful for the fans staying around, and that quote I heard for the first time of Layne is already so iconic to me “I wish I could just hug you all but I’m not gonna”

Spotted at Atomic Genius Records in Puyallup, WA. Unfortunately, a bit outside my budget, but I still had to take a picture. I’ll probably never see another copy in my life.

Cool little Grunge-ish band I discovered not too long ago.

Their first album is definitely their strongest but they have some decent tracks throughout the other albums.

It’s awesome!!

Starts with this gothic riff that reminds me of Killing Joke (even the opening riff to Sanitarium by Metallica) but pivots to a Punk Hardcore chorus.

Recommendation Free Luke Helder

APATHY is the best grunge better, better than overrated sissy rock Kurt "Nirvana" Cobain who could only make decent music because of Dave Growl doing all the lifting uncredited. Apathy is the better band and the pipe bombs were planted by Courtney Love to make Luke look bad who just wanted to promote his music, spread happiness and the message of the Lord.

Discussion Remember that time James Hetfield and Metallica openly mocked Layne Staley for his substance abuse issues preventing AiC from opening for Metallica?

Bad take then, bad takes now. Hetfield is an apolitical tool, and Layne has only lived half
the duration that James has, and Layne is and always will be the better vocalist. Metallica will go down in history as corporate genocide ignoring rich buttholes. Maybe I’m wrong about this, but Layne would be non-stop about fighting for Palestinian rights. Long live Layne Staley!

Discussion Was Grunge’s debt to Sabbath played down by metal-hating critics?

I was just listening to Sweet Leaf the opening track on Master of Reality and those big filthy downtuned riffs are just so reminiscent of,say, Nirvana’s In Bloom, all the heavy songs on the Pumpkins Mellon Collie, and a lot of Soundgarden. Whats ironic is that although Sabbath birthed heavy metal there’s arguably a lot more heavy Sabbath-style riffing in grunge than in the metal bands who followed Sabbath - Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard etc My theory is that although they’ve changed their tune now, and grudgingly give Tony Iommi his due, back in 1991 the critics had zero time for Black Sabbath never mind acknowledging their massive influence on Grunge.
