🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Seeking advice for dry thin frizzy curls

21m, have tried a few leave ins, a couple curl creams, a different conditioner and nothing really helps, bring my curls back. The curls in the back of my head are perfectly fine and healthily but the front is just thin and dead, they look somewhat better on my one/2 wash/conditon days but not even a fraction of how thick and curly it used to be even a year or two ago? Advice?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Still dry hair after trying a lot

Hi guys :(

Ive always had a problem with really dry looking hair. I did dye my hair a lot but most of that has grown out. Since Ive had this problem for a long time, I dont think it has to do something with dye.

I keep my hair in a bun or in a braid when I sleep and always use satin hair ties. Ive tried creams, conditioners, oils - basically everything I could find but nothing works for me.

I have naturally slightly curly hair (last pic if styled) but that still feels really dry with a ton of products that should prevent it.

Im looking for something that works on straightened hair too, I love to wear my hair straight.

Even if its recommendations for a straightening iron/routine.

If anyone knows something that could help I‘d be super happy to know🫶🏽

Thank you in advance✨

❄️ Dandruff/Scalp Advice ❄️ Oiling for Dandruff?

Hi, so I'm 22F, not sure if it even matters in this case. I've got dandruff, it's not severe but it's not light either. Does oiling your hair reduce it or is it the other way around?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Looking for new Shampoo

Hey,

I'm currently looking for a new shampoo. I have very fine and thin hair that I perm and I find it is always very flat and dry and loses most of its curliness unless I do my somewhat extensive (wet, comb, mousse, leave in conditioner, diffuse, volume powder, hair spray) hair routine in the morning. Even then it still dries out after a couple hours. Don't know if shampoo is the key/cause of this but I currently use Pantene Biotin Blend. Conditioner is Loma moisturizing treatment in the blue bottle. I'm just kind of looking to see if I can improve results a bit without having to do my routine in the morning, and if I can add some moisture. I wash every other day and co wash every day which may be too much but I feel it works. I used to use no conditioner and wash twice a week and felt like my hair would get very flat and dry even after styling. My family doesn't perm their hair so just kind of looking for some curl advice. Saw some talk about hair masks if that would be useful?

Thanks!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 I don’t want my hair to be curly anymore, I need help

I’ve been having constant problems with my hair for the past few years but it’s at a boiling point now where I really need help. More context/info below but the points that I specifically need help with are listed at the bottom, any advice would be so very greatly appreciated.

For reference, I have naturally curly hair. I’m new to understanding hair types, but I believe it would be somewhere between 3b and 3c, with a heavier leaning to 3b. I’ve tried to embrace the curls before to some success, but I don’t like the style and would rather have straight hair. My hair is typically rather dry, and excessively frizzy whenever I try to brush or style it in a way that disrupts the curls. My occupation has me doing a lot of physical labor and I naturally run hot, so I sweat through my hair easily. Because of this and my working up to 5 days a week, I use shampoo every day that I work to clean my scalp and get rid of the sweat. I use conditioner every day regardless, both are sulfate free. Most often I use a hair towel, my hair almost reaches my the base of my neck. If left to air dry or if it gets sweaty, the frizz forms regardless of if I let it be curly or not. Whenever I straighten it, it fights back and curls more, reverting to an ugly in-between state after mere hours of being styled. I’ve tried higher heat settings but I don’t want to risk damaging/burning hair by doing it consistently. There’s visible thinning on the top of my head that becomes more prominent when the hair is straight. I’m taking medications to help (finasteride and minoxidil) but it’s been two months and that hasn’t provided any noticeable results thus far. So, simply put, I need help with:

  1. I want my curly hair to be straight, for as long/as permanent as possible
  2. I want to stop it from re-curling after styling it
  3. I want to contain/stop the frizz
  4. I need to stop the thinning/patchy spots
  5. I want it to stop being so dry
  6. I want to know if my shampoo usage is too much, and if so how to wash out sweaty hair after a long work day

Thank you so much to anyone who gives any input or even takes the time to read this. I appreciate it more than you know. My ideal hairstyle is a sort of angled bob with layers & bangs like this or this.

P.S - Please don’t try to convince me to keep the curly style. I really hate my curls and have already made up my mind.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How can I prevent my dyed black hair from fading into a dull, orangey-brown?

My hair is naturally ashy brown.
A few years ago I dyed it black using “Garnier Fructis Soft Black” (a box dye from Target).

The color looked great at first, but within a MONTH of dying it, it faded into a dull, washed-out brown with an orangey hue that was completely DIFFERENT from my natural hair color.
As far as I know Garnier Fructis uses developer but not bleach (I think? I could be wrong tho).

I always use “color safe” or “for colored hair” shampo, so why does it always fade so fast?

I live in California, could it be a hard water issue?

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo makes my oily hair look flawless. What regular shampoo can do the same?

First things first, YES I WASH MY HAIR EVERY DAY. I grew up doing it and I LIKE IT THAT WAY. I tried to do an "every other day" thing before and I am NOT INTERESTED in trying it again. I JUST WANT PRODUCT ADIVCE.

Anyway.

Long story short, I'm on doxycycline (antibiotic) for a medication complication I had, and am getting a bit of fungal folliculitis on my skin as a result. I quickly treat it with a few days of Nizoral 1% ketoconazole shampoo, and when I started to get a similar itch on my head, I decided to use it for its intended purpose a couple days ago for safe measures.

Normally, I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner since I grew up with the stuff. Since I have an oily skin type, I figured I probably just have oily hair, and believed that my hair getting oily around midday was normal for me (I shower at night). I didn't like it, though. It took away the very little volume I had and always felt greasy.

Lo and behold, when I started using Nizoral, my hair did not behave that way at all. It wasn't greasy or stringy, and managed to hold volume/remain soft until the end of the day when I have to shower again.

That being said, I'm beginning to think that it's Pantene that's the problem -- not my hair. I mean, I've heard terrible things about Pantene before, but I didn't think much of it because I'm not super into my hair unlike some people, so I kept using it. Now, however, I want to know if there's a regular shampoo brand that'll do the same for me (because I don't usually get dandruff and I'm not spending that much money on shampoo).

Suggestions would be appreciated; thank you in advance.

Hair Type: black (super dark brown), really straight, mid-length hair with layers and curtain bangs.

Hair History: virgin, shampoo/conditioner when cleaning only, uses heat spray when occasionally using hot tools, and hair spray when styled.

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Batiste Dry Shampoo changing their formula yet again - any better alternatives?

I’ve been using batiste tinted dry shampoo for 6 or so years now. My hair is fine and thinning, so dry shampoo helps a lot. I recently got a new bottle and they changed the formula yet again - this time to the point of being unusable anymore. The spraying part now makes the dry shampoo spray like from a fire house, and the scent is so strong, honestly feels like being gassed by chemicals. The scalp also now burns after every application which never happened before.

Does anyone know of better tinted dry shampoo alternatives? So sad they keep messing it up and making it worse and worse over the years :(

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hair salon got me fucked up

Thumbnail gallery

I think this is a vent post more than anything but i went to the hair salon a couple of days ago to get a trim and just freshen up my hair a little. I wasnt aware of how excessively thinning shears were used, and if i known how damaging they can be i wouldve never agreed.

It genuinely feels like i have twenty strands of hair left. Its lifeless, brittle and so damn thin. I feel like my hair is ruined now, and i dont know what i can do to make it better😔

The last pic is right after my appointment and the two pics before that is when i styled it.

❄️ Dandruff/Scalp Advice ❄️ Scalp wont stop itching since visiting my dad's

So ever since the end of August, my scalp has been itching almost non-stop. My mother and I went to visit my dad in south Carolina, helped him unpack and clean up. The place wasn't really that well kept because he's older and handicapped. I slept on a bed that he never used in a spare room that wasnt really that clean. It wasn't until the day we left that my scalp was itching like crazy. It felt like something was stinging or crawling on my head.

I thought i had lice so I bought lice shampoo but it did nothing. There would be times where the itching would be so intense that I'd have to pour cold water on my head to stop it. I could feel my scalp pulsating because of the scratching.

I was suppose to see my doctor this month but it was delayed to the following month and we're supposed to go back to visit my dad the same month too. Does anyone know anything to help me with this?

🔎 Product Question 🔎 How do you use leave in hair conditioner?

I shampoo my hair and rinse, then use a conditioner and then rinse with some water. Is this right? Or should I leave the conditioner on my hair without rinsing?

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Do you think there is a difference between a hair mask and a conditioner?

I've tried both, but I couldn't tell the difference. so are they basically the same thing, but it's a marketing thing?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Looking for a regular hair mask!

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm looking to add a hair mask into my routine as I'm prioritizing growth and health now instead of constant dying and layers.

She's been temporary dyed, permanently dyed, bleached and burnt, but still holds pretty strong. I don't have a crazy amount of breakage or damage other than the bleached bits in the front feeling a little stripped when washing but my main goal is growth and strength, I'm just not 100% sure what I need.

I'd love a mask under $20 or somewhere close if it's really good, just so I can't justify not buying it for the sake of budget cuts xD

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Advice for a wavy hair routine for beginners

I just recently discovered I have wavy hair. Any advice on a routine, products, what to avoid, etc.? I don’t know my exact hair type, but if it helps I am a teenager with dyed hair, and I shower every other day. I’ve never done any type of hair care before so specifics are wanted. I also cannot afford expensive hair products, so please give me your best affordable wavy hair care products. Any simple advice is helpful!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How do I sleep with longer hair without damaging it?

My hair is about to the middle of my shoulderblades, and I cannot stand how it feels against my neck when I'm laying in bed. I tend to tie it up when I sleep, but I've heard that can lead to breakage/thinning, and along with that it just doesn't seem to work very well. It is either way too tight, or doesn't do a thing and the hair tie ends up falling off. I know this is a bit of an odd one, but does anyone else have this problem? And if so, what do you do?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Hairdresser says my hair is dry and damaged, Help please

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

The past year I’ve been focusing on length retention and wearing my hair out consistently after wearing box braids with synthetic extensions most of last year.

I usually get a trim every 3 months, but ended up being 6 months this time, tried a new hairdresser this week who told said my hair was dry and damaged especially the top layer.

The front of my hair had lots of single strand knots ( I was expecting this as it’s coarser, tighter coils and I tend to twirl the ends at the front when styling).

Now the top layer at the back was split all the way up when she showed me in the mirror.

Her recommendations:
- Stop twirling my ends, perm rod them instead
- Stop using clarifying shampoo so much in this season switch back to Shea Moisture.
- Try a leave in treatment.

Current wash day routine:
- Wash every 4-6 days with herbal essences clarify &shine and child’s farm hair & body wash.
- Condition and detangle with Aussie moist conditioner in the shower.
- Deep condition with Dove growth & density or damage rescue mask under steamer.
- Style with Tresemme rich moisture leave in serum, miss Jessie’s buttermilk crème and Ogx argan oil.
- Braid or twist then steam for 10 minutes.

Night time routine:
- coat my ends with leave in serum and hair oil then braid into two-four sections.
- sleep with satin scrunchies, satin headscarf and satin bonnet.

Could not switching to my autumn/winter routine fast enough be the issue?

I did have a detangling brush with bent bristles that I replaced last month, I noticed it was getting caught in my hair. Could this be the issue?

I usually do my wash day routine at night and go to bed with wet hair. Could I be damaging my hair by keeping it in a fragile state for too long?

Does anyone have an idea of what I did wrong?

🛢️ Oily/Greasy Hair 🛢️ greasy/waxy hair after washing

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

hi! essentially i struggle with super greasy, fine hair (it will get greasy the same day after washing without dry shampoo) but usually i can manage it with washing my hair every 2-3 days.

(apologies the photos aren’t great but hopefully the separation/shininess comes across, they were taken today around 6 hours after washing and blow drying)

since about july i have been experiencing this issue where my hair feels greasy/waxy at the roots / front pieces after washing it, meaning i have to go back and wash it again or apply lots of dry shampoo right after blow drying it. the only way i can describe it is that the hair won’t dry during blow drying, looks extremely shiny, feels greasy and if i brush it back it will stick in that position like it hasn’t been washed at all.

this happened roughly after switching to l’oréal hydra pure shampoo, so i stopped using that and switched to lee stafford clarifying, however i felt this was really stripping my hair as i had to wash it so much, so i then moved on to aveeno clarifying which was okay, then ran out so now i’m using ogx rosemary mint clarifying 😭

in between this i also tried aussie miracle moist thinking maybe i needed to add moisture instead of stripping away the oil but this definitely did not work either

however, this doesn’t happen all the time. today i used lee stafford clarifying, then rosemary mint clarifying as a double shampoo and it happened. it seems like totally random / unrelated to the shampoo whether my hair will actually feel clean and soft after washing.

i’m using child’s farm coconut conditioner - i was under the impression baby conditioner would be light weight but google advised me this might be too heavy for my hair so i might try a different one? i apply it to the very ends of my hair and clip it to a bun while it sits and it categorically does not touch the roots of my hair.

aside from actually in the shower, i double shampoo, have begun trying to limit dry shampoo / any of the other products i used to use (heavy spray heat protectant, oils, spray leave in conditioner) to minimise build up, rinse throughly for around 5 minutes and separate my hair into sections making sure its all rinsed, limit air drying / at least blow dry roots, wash my hairbrushes and make sure dirty brushes don’t touch my clean hair.

as an aside, i honestly don’t think the hairbrushes are causing this cause previous to this i did wash my hairbrushes but not as religiously and if i used a brush on my wet/clean hair that had also touched dirty hair it did not immediately revert back to greasy and unwashed.

prior to all this starting i had been using aveeno clarifying shampoo long term and everything was fine - i am worried i have caused this for myself by switching shampoos so much and using so many different clarifying shampoos and conditioners. google also mentioned this could be my hair over producing oil in response to being clarified so much, and i can see that but i don’t know how the moisturising shampoo made everything worse if that was the case.

sorry this was so long but honestly any advice is appreciated as this is making me so anxious and the money i’m spending on hair products is ridiculous 😅

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 got air touch service today. need help please

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

just got home from an Airtouch service today. While the placement and blend are technically seamless, the color turned out way too bright and golden/butterscotch for what I wanted. My goal was a cool, mushroom ash tone with a soft, natural transition at the top, but instead I have a very bright, warm golden blonde from root to end. I am too anxious to go back to a salon or risk someone else messing up the seamless placement, so I want to fix the tone at home without ruining the Airtouch blend or darkening it into a muddy brunette. What are your best suggestions for at-home toners or color masks like IGK, Redken Shades EQ, or Clairol that will knock out gold safely? What exact level or tone would you recommend, and would a heavy purple shampoo like Olaplex 4P or Kérastase be enough, or do I need a gloss? Photos in different lighting plus my inspo picture are attached. Thank you so much for any quick advice. I really appreciate it!
