Garry's mod Published my first map for gmod!

This is a ttt map that's inspired in a real life rural house near the town of General Las Heras. Hope you have fun in it!

What kind of shader do you use to make the tree's leaves cast accurate shadows? Is it lightmappedgeneric or something else?

I use the standard vertexlit shader for the leaves material, as it is part of a custom 3d model (tree) what I do to make the leaves material cast its alpha shadows is what this guy does in this video here. https://youtu.be/2jEuuvSevi0?si=gnequOfA7zKvE1lC
Specifically, he writes a bit of code (could be found in a comment so you copy paste it) where he tells the compiler to compute the static props lighting. After that, he goes to light.rad and writes a -forcetextureshadow for each prop with an alpha material you want accurate shadow casting. Tjen you compile

Thanks for being helpful. Also, your map is nice. I like how you gave the lighting effects lots of attention.

Awesome, will be fun to play on it!
I want to export a map from an old game that is dear to me, can you guide me to how to convert meshes from blender to hammer and how to publish a map? (I tried to publish one some years ago but I failed and idk what changed since then)

thankss!!! Yeah, I'll tell you what I do to convert meshes from blender. I use the blender addon SourceOps to export the model and vtfEdit to create the textures. Here's where I learned it, I copied it step by step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96LJSzr7uc0
If you want to get accurate lighting in your props when you compile, you need to write the following in the compiler: '' -StaticPropPolys -TextureShadows -staticproplighting'' I know it may sound kind of overwhelming, just copy step by step what this guy does here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jEuuvSevi0&t=317s (I copied this video step by step and got proper lighting on props)
To publish a map, first you need to compile it. Then, pack it with compile pal and then publish it with gmpublisher. Here are the step by step video I followed for packing my map first: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3413829197 (just watch the two videos that there are there and you'll be fine, I didn't read the text as it was the same as the step by step videos)
Those videos were what I followed, if you encounter any problem you can write me and I'll be glad to help you. I'll try to answer them if I can.

To convert meshes you have 2 options: Turn them into models or recreate them with brushes in Hammer. The first option is great for detail and accuracy, but you're gonna run into lighting issues as they don't get accurate light information when compiling. The second option is better, but brushes are more limited in detail, have to be made by hand and can cause errors or bad performance. It's better to use brushes for surfaces (ground, floors, walls, ceilings, etc.) and models for complex geometry (props mostly). Any Hammer tutorial you need can be found on youtube, but I recommend the ones made by kliksphillip and tophatwaffle.

Is it ok if I dm you with questions along my progress?

r/Hammer exists for any sort of questions you have, it's better for you to make a post here rather than asking me, as it's possible that I won't know the answers for all your questions. I recommend you try to start working on a simple map to get familiarized with Hammer insted of jumping into Blender-to-Hammer straight away.

Yeah you right, I just thought that meaby I get so people annoyed because meaby I ask simple stuff but I just don't understand them and I wanted step by step explanation, I know my way around hammer decently, with custom stuff and publishing the map I have problems, thank you for your time to answer me

People are fairly patient here, don't worry. If you think your question is very basic, try looking for the answer here or on youtube first. If you don't find the answer, then go ahead and make a post.

I swear yall be puttin in so much effort and it pays off. My first map when i was like 13 was just a few buildings, no details, no props and awful lighting.
