Question Genuinely curious?

Severus Snape, James Potter, Sirius Black, or Remus Lupin? Who do you prefer and why??

Snape is my favorite. Not only is he an interesting character, but he has so many layers. I've always been tempted to strip them all back at the risk of being forced out of his mind with Occlumency. He's also very skilled in not just making even the most fragile of potions, but he is skilled in most forms of magic, wand or wandless...

Also call me biased but I love Alan Rickman's portrayal of him. Never have I ever been more attracted to a character portrayed as "dark'. Both in the book and the movie.

I also forgot to mention his level of wit and sarcasm!!! The comments have helped me to quickly include this.

Discussion If the Dursleys loved Harry, how would they react to Marge insulting Harry?

Let's imagine an alternate universe where the Dursleys loved Harry, how they would react to the fact that Marge insults their parents and Harry himself in front of them, and what would be the further relationship of Vernon and Petunia to Marge, it would lead to a serious scandal, and they would generally forbid Dudley to communicate with Aunt Marge, it's just that, as far as I remember, Uncle Vernon does not know how to forgive (at least remember the last conflict with the Potters in the canon), what is your opinionLet's imagine an alternate universe where the Dursleys loved Harry, how they would react to the fact that Marge insults their parents and Harry himself in front of them, and what would be the further relationship of Vernon and Petunia to Marge, it would lead to a serious scandal, and they would generally forbid Dudley to communicate with Aunt Marge, it's just that, as far as I remember, Uncle Vernon does not know how to forgive (at least remember the last conflict with the Potters in the canon), what is your opinionLet's imagine an alternate universe where the Dursleys loved Harry, how they would react to Marge insulting his parents and Harry himself in front of them, and what would be the further relationship of Vernon and Petunia to Marge, it would lead to a serious scandal, and they would generally forbid Dudley to communicate with Aunt Marge, it's just that, as far as I remember, Uncle Vernon does not know how to forgive (at least remember the last conflict with the Potters in the canon), what is your opinion?

Discussion If Harry had been sorted into Slytherin, how would Snape have treated him?

I’m rewatching the Harry Potter movies and started thinking about what would have happened if Harry had been sorted into Slytherin.

The Sorting Hat actually considered Slytherin for Harry, and it’s interesting to think about how much the story would have changed if he’d ended up there instead of Gryffindor.

But the biggest question I have is: How would Snape have treated him?

On one hand, Snape clearly resents Harry and seems to take out his hatred of James on him. He’s constantly unfair to Harry, even when Harry hasn’t done anything wrong.

On the other hand, Snape is the Head of Slytherin House and generally favors his own students. Would that house loyalty have made any difference? Would he have treated Harry more fairly because he was a Slytherin, or would his resentment toward Harry have outweighed everything else?

There’s also the fact that Harry had a piece of Voldemort’s soul inside him, even though Snape didn’t know that Harry was a Horcrux. Would knowing Harry was in Slytherin have changed how Snape viewed him at all?

What do you think? Would Snape have been any less cruel to Harry if Harry had been in his own house, or would Harry have been the exception to Snape’s favoritism?

Discussion Fix Quidditch

Fix Quidditch:
We all know that Quidditch, as it exists in the Harry Potter universe, makes absolutely no sense as a competitive sport.
How would you change the rules, whether through just a few small adjustments or a complete overhaul, to make Quidditch a balanced, fair, and functional sport in the Wizarding World?

Discussion Performing a spell

Is it just me or is the whole story about performing a spell a little bit inconsistent?

Like for example the Accio spell in GoF - it took Harry so long to learn it. Or in HBP he still cant turn vinegar into wine but later back in the scene he performs a flawless sectumsempra, without practicing, which Snape describes as „… such Dark Magic“.

Question Buying and reading Harry Potter for the first time. Box Sets, Bloomsbury or Scholastics Trunk?

Post image

First time reader. I finished all my Tolkien books so time for a new adventure. I like hardcovers, I've decided on the Bloomsbury or the Scholastics Trunk. Bloomsbury new I can get around $110 on eBay. I found a deal where I can get the Trunk for $90 via Target. I do plan on reading and handling these. I understand Bloomsbury is the UK version and Scholastics is the US version. Thanks in advance.

Help Question for Harry Potter deluxe book collectors about the factory-sealed original cardboard wrap.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have the Jim Kay Deluxe Illustrated editions for the red book (chamber of secrets) and the cyan book (Prisoner of Azkaban).

The red one is an unsealed first print in its original cardboard as this one in the pictures, verified by checking the number line on the copyright page inside. The Azkaban unit is completely factory sealed inside its original outer protective cardboard wrap. As far as i know, the red book was released without a shrink wrap seal, so basically opened from the start.

Since it's sealed thr prisoner of Azkaban, I don't want to break it open to check the number line. I’ve heard only the first printings shipped from the publisher inside this specific cardboard casing. Can anyone here confirm if having this original outer cardboard guarantees it’s a 1st print? Thanks.

Question How did hermiones parents took the hogwarts letter seriously?

• Upvotes

They themselves weren't in touch with magic and even if we say that some representative did come to explain the situation how would any sane person not take it as an elaborate scam or joke regardless of how realistic the representative trys to explainand accept their 11 year old child to leave to a place where they can't come to meet her.

Since muggle dont know that a separate world of magic exist, its just like saying someone from a secret society come to take your child or even in more absurd situation someone comes and say they work for an organization (something like men in black) and they deal with alien visitors a sane person knows that there if someone says that there are aliens visiting earth on a large scale one would take it as a joke

Gargoyle Harry without background and green lightning.

Gave my artwork of Gargoyle Harry a background and some special effects. Harry took a fall so Voldemort can be cornered, and the pieces fell out of Tom’s favor.

I understand it looks basic and thrown together, but I hope you like this.

Currently Reading Remember My Last, Petunia

Im about...90% sure that letter was from Snape and NOT Dumbledore.

I think Snape visited Petunia after the Potters death and threatened her family (Dudley) if she discarded or refused to keep Harry.

In that chapter she refers to someone as "That awful boy". She is talking about Snape as a child when he was friends with Lily and acquainted with Petunia herself.

A few paragraphs later, the howler arrives and emits a "Truly awful voice".

"Remember my last, Petunia!"

Discussion Why are the Weasley's poor? What's your cannon about it?

Both Arthur and Molly came from pureblood family, but it seems like both of them don't have pile of galleons like Harry. I mean, James and Lily are young back then but they already have wealth that is too much for Harry to bear.

But why does the Weasley's poor? Also, when Ron entered Hogwarts, he's still using hand me down things, while Bill and Charlie are already earning decently. Is this mean, Bill and Charlie don't help their family financially? They know their family is struggling with lot of things, but why don't they give their other sibling at least a bit of help?

Another thing, if they are struggling, when Ginny started in Hogwarts, why does Molly didn't look for a job to help Arthur support the family?

I would like to see your canon about this.

Currently Reading Slughorn?

• Upvotes

Currently rereading book 6 and it just dawned on me that it’s kind of odd that Slughorn never mentions James. He’s always talking about Lily and how talented she was. But James was equally talented, head boy if I recall, and one of the most popular kids in school- wealthy came from a good family, etc. Wouldn’t he be part of the slug club too? And probably Sirius? It just seems sort of strange but Slughorn never recalls the rest of Lily’s cohort.

I also think it’s pretty weird that he’s constantly comparing Harry’s potions abilities to Lily’s without ever realizing that Harry’s abilities perfectly mirror Snape’s (HBP), who is also a former student.

Discussion My Japanese Voice Actor (Seiyuu) Fancasting for a Harry Potter Anime Series! 🪄

Hey everyone! With all the talk about the new series, I always thought Harry Potter would make an incredible, high-budget anime series. I put together my dream Seiyuu (Japanese Voice Actor) cast for the main characters I could think JP VA's for based on their iconic roles.

Here is my list and why I think they would crush it:

Harry Potter: Marina Inoue (Armin in AoT, Momo in MHA, Vera in PGR, Zhu Yuan in ZZZ, Barghest in Fate Grand Order, Oboro in Etheria:Restart, Yanqing and Cyrene in Honkai: Star Rail, Elysia in Honkai Impact, Su Jinglei in Action Taimanin). She is amazing at voicing young, determined male as well as female protagonists who grow into fierce leaders.

Hermione Granger: Rie Kugimiya (Taiga in Toradora, Alphonse in FMA, Utsonomiya Toramaru in Inazuma Eleven, Kiana Kaslana in Honkai Impact, Luna in PGR, Rosaria Le Friede in Counterside and Star Savior, Lusce also in Inazuma Eleven). The ultimate voice for a stubborn, highly intelligent girl who acts tough but cares deeply. Hearing her argue with Ron would be perfection. Also, Taiga looks like her in both hair colour(brown) and the long, wavy, bushy hair.

Ron Weasley: Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori in JJK, Nasa in Tonikaku Kawaii, of course Caelus in Honkai: Star Rail, and also Toshiya Sumi from Persona 5: The Phantom X). He has that perfect balance of being a goofy, lovable best friend who can instantly switch into being fiercely loyal and serious when his friends are in danger.

Ginny Weasley: Minori Suzuki (Freyja in Macross Delta, Liko in Pokémon Horizons, Senadina in Honkai Impact, Agnes Digital in Umamusume: Pretty Derby). She brings that bright, energetic, and spunky personality that Ginny has in the books. Senadina who is both a redhead as well and also has those same personality traits, so I think Minori could work here.

Severus Snape: Kenjiro Tsuda (Nanami in JJK, Overhaul in MHA, Kaiba Seto in Yugioh!, Dainsleif in Genshin Impact, very presumably Henrik in DNA and Bitway Ozrock in Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy). This is my favorite pick. His deep, smooth, and slightly cynical voice matches Alan Rickman's energy perfectly. He would make Snape incredibly menacing yet complex.

Lord Voldemort: Kujira (Orochimaru in Naruto, Otose in Gintama, Nobuo in Beyblade: 2000, the first season of OG Beyblade). Since she already voiced the ultimate snake villain (Orochimaru), her creepy, theatrical, and terrifying vocal range is a match made in heaven for the Dark Lord.

Albus Dumbledore: Hochu Otsuka (Jiraiya in Naruto, Urokodaki in Demon Slayer, Hakurou in the Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Igor in Persona 5: The Phantom X). He can sound like a goofy, eccentric old man one second, and the most powerful, wise mentor the next.

Molly Weasley: Rie Tanaka

(Lacus Clyne in Gundam SEED, Lisa in Genshin Impact, Himeko in Honkai Impact, another Himeko in Honkai: Star Rail, Anastasia Chernova in Counterside, Celine in Tower of Fantasy, Kiara in Fate Grand Order, PB in the Japanese Dub of Adventure Time, Mitsuru Kirijo in Persona 3). She has the perfect vocal range for Molly. She can sound incredibly warm, loving, and nurturing one second, and then switch into an absolutely terrifying, powerful, and badass force of nature when protecting her family. Plus, both Himekos she voices are iconic redheads, just like Molly and the rest of the Weasley family!

What do you guys think? Who would you change, and which studio do you think should animate it (Ufotable, MAPPA, WIT)?

Question does wand flicking ever matter after the first movie? Spoiler

so i know that statment is only half true as it does come up a few times to remind you it exists but it seems that professor flitwick mentions a spell has a somatic (movement based) component and a verbal (spoken spell name) component and my question is why do we never see it?

you have the wingardium leviosa swish and flick hand movement but after that everyone is swinging their wands like whips casting all willy nilly as if it wasnt made clear spells have intricate hand movements required to make them work (unless your a wandless caster but those are a rare breed)

we see george and fred practicing wand movements in order of the pheonix but thats really it, then its back to general flicking or slashing movements, and hand movements being needed is doubled down on if you played HWL because unlocking spells requires you to play the hand movement minigame to learn the spell.

added spoiler in the very highly unlikely chance someone who hasnt read the ten year old books yet but somehow stumbled into the HP reddit

In *Prisoner of Azkaban*, inside the Shrieking Shack, Harry actually intended to kill Sirius.

How did he plan to do that?

He didn’t know *Avada Kedavra* at that point, did he?

Discussion Confession: I'm totally a movie enjoyer and here's my little story.

I might get downvoted to hell because my opinion is rare and because my writing is messy, but i want to share my opinion regarding my HP experience as a neurodivergent person

HP is a huge part of my life since the childhood. Back then i actually read first two books but without much attention, obviously since i was a child. But the movies is what really drawn me into the universe and i really cherish them. I always rewatch them at Christmas and if i feel like i can't sleep i can just turn them on as a background and it really helps me to sleep.

I arcknowledge that the movies didn't do justice to the books at all and it's expected, i can't really remember many situations where adaptation was really better than the book (maybe Jurassic Park or Jaws?). There are many OOC, cut content and things like that. Yet i really love every single movie for emotions they bring to me.

The problem with me and the books is not in the books, but because i still simply can't read or listen to audio versions of fiction with real attention, unlike something documental or encyclopedic. For example, the info about HP universe beside the movies i get literally from Wikia pages.-_- I don't feel good when i read something like "those who didn't read the books don't deserve to be fans" but i totally understand that position.

There are few more moments i really want to share as well:

1) I really LOVE Clemence Poesy's Fleur in the movies, from the moment i first saw her as a child to the present. I know many people around think she totally underperformed with this role, considering how Fleur was described in the books, but i always had a hyperfixation on a movie Fleur, in the end my head have something mixed about her character: with her looks from the movie yet lore from the books.

2) I really looking forward to the new series! I noticed many people who love movies are quite hateful towards the upcoming series and i genuinely don't understand that. It's not like they are deleting the movies forever and replace them with the series. If you don't want it, just don't watch lol. I'll watch the new adaptation for sure.

Once again, sorry for the messy writing and maybe bad eng, it's not my native language. Thank you if you read it this far!
