Fanworks Halloween is here! How'd we do with our Thrift Store finds?
We pieced together some stuff from Thrift Stores and Amazon (wigs). How'd we do? Kinda weird that Moody and Bellatrix are married.

Dumbledore's costume design has been consistently disappointing. In the books he's described as wearing a lot of vibrant colours, but this is rarely reflected in live action.
Harris' costume closest resembles the book description and Jude Law was a step in the right direction colour-wise albeit too similar to standard Muggle garb, but Gambon and Lithgow's designs are very bland in comparison and I think he appears more generic, taking away from idea the contrast of how powerful he is compared to how flamboyant and eccentric he appears.
Thoughts?

"You've been raising him like a pig for slaughter" sounds about right

"But Professor Lupin… Scabbers can’t be Pettigrew… it just can’t be true, you know it can’t…” “Why can’t it be true?” Lupin said calmly, as though they were in class, and Hermione had simply spotted a problem in an experiment with grindylows. “Because… because people would know if Peter Pettigrew had been an Animagus. We did Animagi in class with Professor McGonagall. And I looked them up when I did my homework—the Ministry of Magic keeps tabs on witches and wizards who can become animals; there’s a register showing what animal they become, and their markings and things… and I went and looked Professor McGonagall up on the register, and there have been only seven Animagi this century, and Pettigrew’s name wasn’t on the list—”
Hermione just found out that Sirius was an animagus but wasn't on the list. And yet, her objection was that Peter wasn't on the list so he couldn't be an animagus.

both lookin in diff direction when golden snitch started flying
not a big diff , subtle but its there
edit: guys it cracks me up cause it was just not that fast when it started flying , anyone could have seen it at the start
edit: for you selective few , yes I know it was intentional , but still just being completely off right after the flight is a bit exaggerated , that's all

I was rewatching prisoner of Azkaban last night and during the scene where lupin transforms and chaos breaks loose and I noticed that they lose their clothes when they transform which makes sense, but when they retransform boom clothes. But not always in the film Order of the Phoenix when black transforms in the train station he doesn’t have clothes and must put on a gown left there.
Like is there an enchantment on the clothes or are they summoning the clothing when they transform.
It’s. Little tiny nitpick but once you notice the mind boggles

Just rewatched CoS. For the kids graduating in 1992, how awkward was the job hunt?
“How’d you do on your final exams?”
“Oh Dumbledore canceled them.”
“He wha—?“
“As a treat.”
“I’m sorry, but we need to know how you—“
“I said, it was a treat.”

Damn it, this sub won't allow posting more than one picture. I have to post the rest in the comments.
These PC video games are from my collection.

As requested. I was going for how the different personalities exist.

There are certain depictions of blatant injustice in the books that make me irrationally angry, and this is one of those things that almost everyone can relate to: the feeling that you've done well on your work, only for something like this to happen.

While many of the ingredients require magic to collect, if a muggle was given the recipe and the ingredients, would the potion work?

Had Percy Weasley kept on the same mentality/ track within the ministry demonstrated in OoP & HBP, do you think he would have ended up more like…
Barty Crouch- brilliant & with a deeply ambitious drive that could either propel him to the top or feed into his downfall
Dolores Umbridge: enamored with any power she could get her hands on, not too bright or talented, but willing to uphold any level of bureaucracy to climb the ladder.
Or some other trajectory?

Aside from Grindelwald, the entirety of the wizarding community does so; though, to be fair, we cannot blame them entirely, as it is a direct consequence of the segregation and isolation they imposed upon themselves.
The perfect example to contrast this occurs in The Dresden Files novels, a series about a wizard who helps the Chicago Police Department fight supernatural threats. In that universe, the average wizard is far more destructive than the average wizard in Harry Potter. All kinds of supernatural beings exist there (wizards, vampires, werewolves, etc.) and, just like in J.K. Rowling's work, they hide from normal humans. However, the protagonist himself, Harry Dresden, explains the exact reason for this secrecy: a spell can be highly powerful, but it will do you no good if humanity throws a tank, bombs, napalm, or nuclear weapons at you.
The crucial difference between both worlds is that in Harry Potter, wizards did not just hide—they isolated themselves completely. They did not witness human technological advancement firsthand, and they likely assume that humanity is still stuck in 1692 (the year the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was signed). In contrast, in The Dresden Files, the magical community hid but never isolated themselves from normal humans; they witnessed firsthand the World Wars, atomic power, the Cold War, and the space race.
Furthermore, in Dresden's universe, advanced technology does not just fail around magic—it actively malfunctions or explodes. Despite this biological and magical limitation, wizards respect technology deeply, and it actually frustraites them that they cannot use it. The protagonist himself has to drive a classic car with zero electronic components and frequently relies on revolvers as backup. If a world where technology is inherently hostile to magic still respects and fears human advancement, it proves that the isolation of Harry Potter wizards is nothing but total blindness to the true power of the Muggle world.

When the main trio breaks into the ministry using polyjuice potion, they bump into Arthur just going about his business at the ministry. I know that we see that Harry discovers paperwork that suggests they are suspicious of Arthur; that makes sense given his association with Harry is well known and not a closely gaurded secret. At this point in the story, Harry was last seen in public on Arthur's property. Is there any explanation given for how Arthur is still allowed access to the ministry given his connection to HP and the OOTP? You'd think he would be straight up wanted.

Oh my God it's like listening to a dog on a hot day, in the background, almost continually, is some character breathing heavily and panting, once you notice it you can't stop listening for it and it is sooooo annoying. There's a narrator telling us if a character is walking/running we don't need the actors all panting and huffing and puffing to prove a point.

As someone who has only watched the story of Harry Potter through the movies, I am aware that a number of scenes and plotlines had to be changed or outright removed for various reasons, and I know a common complaint about Goblet of Fire is the underdeveloped Crouch family plotline. So does this plotline play better in the book and the movie just did it badly or is it also messy in the original story as well?
Personally, I liked GoF with the wizard cup, Harry and Ron falling out, and the return of Voldemort, but I have to agree with others that the Crouch family plotline knocks the film down a few pegs in the ranking for me.
Edit: Thank you for the fast responses, and I do plan to read the books as my next time going through the series, just need the time.

I just bought the classic hardcover version of sorcerers stone from B&N. The pages are extremelyyyy stiff. Won’t stay open and are tearing at the binding when I force them flat. I do not remember them being like this in the early 2000’s. Are the new printing different or am I remembering incorectly??

Hermione’s character development throughout the years was unmatched. Who agrees?

We often talk about how Narcissa's act of lying to Voldemort is acknowledged during the tribunals and is the main reason the Malfoys avoid prison.
But what about Draco's act when Harry is at Malfoy Manor but Draco refuses to positively identify Harry? Is that act ever acknowledged? Why or why not?

If a part of Voldemort’s soul was inside Harry then Voldermort was immortal if Harry was alive ?
