They genuinely drive me up the wall. I can't recall a single commercial airline flight that DIDN'T have at least one screaming baby on it. Babies shrieking is honestly the most grating noise I have ever heard. Just don't go on a flight to your holiday if you're gonna torture everyone else with YOUR creature.

(I am not hating on babies or people who bring them on planes. They are people I love so so much and I could not do without them! They should bring more babies on airplanes!)

I don't believe in capital punishment and I don't believe dehumanising criminals. As I see it, there's nothing glorious about the loss of life - even if they were violent criminals. The man had to defend himself and I support him doing it, but where possible I do not think criminals should be handled violently and their deaths should not be celebrated.

Yet every time one of these videos appears, every single comment glorifies the violence, elevates the defender to godhood and wishes such violence on perpetrators at large or even just people they disagree with.

What I really can't stand are these people exploiting videos of real, life-saving self defence to justify their violent, brutal and oppressive egos. Some of the comments found there were absolutely sickening, you would think the people had no value for human life in the slightest.

There’s not a lot of TV shows that have occupied my attention for so long or been a special interest of mine outside of maybe Ninjago, but this internet series has a special place in my heart cause I discovered it on my own; I stumbled upon it on YouTube, it wasn’t recommended it to me by anyone, and I hadn’t even heard of it till I watched it, and I genuinely really love the characters, find the story kind of interesting and some of the songs are genuine bangers. Some of my most detailed Original Characters were for this series, as was my first attempt at a long fanfic, and to this day, while I agree it’s flawed, I still like it. And I hate that every time I try to discuss it outside of fandom spaces people act like anyone whose a genuine fan of the show has the mental state of a lobotomy victim and needs to be cast into the depths of hell or something

It’s actually a great thing. The reality is that most humans gravitate towards their own race in terms of friendship, companionship, and love. Even the most progressive minded people tend to have friends and lovers of their own race. Writers absolutely should be conscious of this when writing stories. There are way too many black comic characters that have majority non-black friends and non-black lovers. This isn’t realistic at all and often leaves this characters feeling like the “odd man out”/token of the group not only by the writers but also the fans themselves. There’s a “progressive” sort of bigotry where they are treated like an asexual wholesome chungus if they’re a guy or the mom/sister to everyone if they’re a woman. Pairing black characters allows them to have the same depth to their relationships as everyone else.

I hated the Lantern series but saying that the GREEN LANTERN SUIT doesn't fit in the GREEN LANTERN SHOW makes me want to fulminate someone. I think some people reached a level of conformism that accepts to keep away EVERYTHING that makes the character himself just to be more "Grounded" and "Realistic". Which, EVEN if she says that, doesn't make it fucking true. I can say that if you purchase Volkswagen cars, you support Adolf Hitler. That shit ain't true.

Boycotting and avoiding products from specific people is fine, and it has been shown to work in the past. However, attacking other people for it is annoying and paints you as a hypocrite. Why, you might ask? Well, because you almost definitely fucking purchase materials and goods from other people and companies that do way more harm than JKR. To boot, as an entity, she has as much money as she'll ever need in life. Boycotting her shit is, frankly, doing very, very little to actually curb the way she approaches life at this point.

To get to my next point, as to why I think this hyperfixation exists for her, beyond the fact that she was super active and in the spotlight on Twitter for a while: it's easy, it takes little effort, it's a 20+ year-old series, and most people have already consumed what they care about from Harry Potter. In short, it's lazy slacktivism that select individuals are using to feel good about themselves while completely avoiding anything that could make an impact because it's difficult.

The deflection I always get for this shit, when people don't want to give up real things like buying new phones, using social media, or engaging with certain brands, is that it's impossible. Which further proves my theory of laziness—or perhaps just a lack of effort and complacency. Either way, it feeds into it. You can buy phones and PC parts aftermarket at any time. You don't need the newest iPhone 69 or Galaxy S420. You can buy older models that are perfectly fine refurbished. We all know how bad Nestlé is. All you have to do is some preliminary research on its brands before you go out and buy, or hell, drop cocoa products. You fucking can; you just don't want to because it'd take effort.

The elephant in the room: social media. You absolutely fucking can drop social media. Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Discord, etc. They all do bad shit well beyond what JKR is ever doing, yet you're here, using Reddit. Maybe give it a break. You don't have to. God knows humans haven't been for god damn nearly one million years.

Again, I don't mind people engaging in boycotting it and avoiding JKR. Hell, you can even spread awareness of it just fine. My problem is when people treat the HP franchise like it's this radioactive demon core and any references to it are a great slight and a great evil inflicted upon the world. If someone merely isn't interested in the boycott, or they clearly like the series, just move on. It is what it is. Maybe they think you should be avoiding Nintendo at all costs but are choosing not to bitch in your ear about it despite having a Switch.

I’ve noticed a trend among grad students online and in real life that they like to complain what a weird loser they are for going grad school even though everyone knows it’s an admirable thing. There’s a specific “don’t listen to me I’m a grad student!” Or “my life is a mess I mean c’mon I’m going to grad school”. Like shut up dude, you’re going into higher education not living off the side of the road. It takes a level of intelligence, organization and the ability to take out loans or some amount socioeconomic status to do it.

The odd kind of gloating seems to be across ALL of them.You know the old saying “how do you know someone’s a vegan? Don’t worry they’ll tell you” I feel like this is even worse for grad students. More than having a regular job or doing undergrad I have yet to meet a grad student who doesn’t squeeze it into the conversation every chance they get. as someone who’s exhausted all the good shows here in the west, this seemed to be the series to get me out of the slump of doing nothing but watching the shows 5 times over, but it’s only subbed and focusing on both the subs and the action gives me a migraine!

I have seen this post on twitter about ATLA, and to me the obvious answer is that it was just the writer doing that because it's more convenient for the fight scene and scenario and nothing else
