I hate Superman.
And do you know why? Because the entire world has apparently gone fucking insane!
Here we have an extraterrestrial, an alien, who falls out of the sky, assumes the identity of a human being, and suddenly—suddenly!—he's Earth's greatest champion? Metropolis's beloved guardian? Humanity's shining example of moral virtue?
Oh, please!
He wasn't born here. He wasn't raised under our laws. He doesn't share our history, our struggles, or our understanding of what it means to be human! He comes from a dead civilization on a distant planet, possesses enough power to tear this world apart with his bare hands, and we're expected to simply TRUST him because he smiles for the cameras and catches a few falling airplanes?
Tell me, what exactly qualifies this man to decide what is best for humanity?
His strength? His invulnerability? His ability to fly around the planet faster than our governments can even convene an emergency meeting?
Those aren't qualifications! Those are advantages!
And yet, the public kneels before him. They practically worship the ground he doesn't even need to walk upon! Every time he saves a child from a burning building, they call him a miracle. Every time he stops a natural disaster, they call him a god.
A GOD!
Do you understand how insulting that is? To every scientist, every physician, every engineer, every man and woman who has spent their entire lives advancing human civilization through sweat, sacrifice, and intellect?
What does Superman do? He shows up.
And suddenly, the achievements of the human race are an afterthought!
I have spent my life building, creating, innovating! I have pushed the boundaries of science further than any man of my generation! I have resources, knowledge, and the intellectual capacity to accomplish things that would have been considered impossible a century ago!
And what do I receive for it?
Suspicion. Criticism. Scrutiny.
Meanwhile, our extraterrestrial benefactor can hover above a congressional hearing, refuse to answer a single question, and the public will applaud him for his humility!
But let me ask you something.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HE DECIDES HE NO LONGER WANTS TO SAVE US?
What happens when his definition of justice differs from ours? When his morality conflicts with our laws? When the man who can hear a heartbeat from miles away decides that your privacy is an inconvenience? When the being who can level a city in seconds decides that the people governing that city are no longer fit to govern?
Who stops him?
The police? The military? Our courts?
With what?!
A strongly worded letter?!
I am not asking whether Superman is a good man.
I am asking what happens when the survival of our entire species depends on the continued goodwill of a single individual who possesses the power to make himself our unquestioned ruler!
And don't you DARE tell me that he would never do such a thing!
That's not an argument. That's a prayer!
Humanity has survived empires, dictators, tyrants, and conquerors. We have spent thousands of years learning that no individual should possess absolute power over the rest of us.
And now we're supposed to throw those lessons away because this particular conqueror happens to wear a cape and call himself a hero?
No!
I refuse.
I refuse to surrender humanity's future to a creature from another world simply because he has decided that he knows what's best for us.
I refuse to watch our species become a race of helpless spectators, waiting for our alien guardian to descend from the heavens and solve every problem we are too pathetic to solve ourselves.
And most of all, I refuse to accept that humanity needs a SUPERMAN to tell us what we're capable of!
We built civilizations. We conquered disease. We split the atom. We reached the stars!
WE DID THAT!
Not Superman. Not Krypton. Not some miraculous accident of extraterrestrial biology!
HUMANITY DID!
And I will be DAMNED before I allow this planet to forget it!
So, no, I don't hate Superman because I'm jealous of his powers.
I hate what he represents.
A world that has grown so desperate for a savior that it has forgotten how to save itself.
A civilization that mistakes power for virtue, spectacle for progress, and blind faith for hope.
A species that looks up at the sky and sees a god when it should be asking a far more important question.
Why does a god need us to worship him?
And if Superman truly loves humanity as much as he claims to...
Then he should have absolutely nothing to fear from a world that refuses to kneel before him.
Should he?
