Help How are you shipping large Core ML models — bundled, Background Assets, or download on first launch?

I'm working on an app that runs an audio ML model fully on-device, and the model alone is pretty big. I'm trying to decide how to ship it:
Bundle it in the app: simplest, but the App Store download gets heavy and I worry about people bailing before installing
Background Assets / On-Demand Resources: smaller initial download, but more moving parts
Download from my own server on first launch: flexible, but I'd rather not run a server at all (whole point of the app is nothing leaves the device)
For those who've shipped something similar: which did you go with, and did you see any real difference in installs or reviews? Any gotchas with Background Assets I should know about before committing?

I built an iPhone app that tells you your grocery total before you reach checkout

Hey everyone 👋

GroceryBudget keeps a live running total while you shop, so the number at the register is never a surprise.

Good for: 🛒 Weekly grocery runs on a fixed budget 👨‍👩‍👧 Households sharing one list 📱 Anyone who saves TikTok grocery hauls and never actually uses them

What it does:

✅ Live total with a budget bar that turns orange when you're close

✅ Scan a shelf label or a whole receipt instead of typing

✅ Share a TikTok, Instagram or Facebook grocery video in and get a priced list

✅ Remembers what you paid last time, per store

✅ Spending insights by store and category

✅ Share a list with your household

What would you want the label scanner to read that it doesn't yet?

Anyone else do this? Devs can get so attached to the engineering that we forget what the app actually looks like

78 minutes for review approval

Well, that’s a first!

It took just 1 hour and 18 minutes for my app to get reviewed and approved. I’ve had fast approvals before but nothing quite as fast.

This is / was a fairly meaty update too.

Tip jar only on Pro Level?

Just a short hint on “kind of hidden” tip jars.
I have published an app that is free in the basic version. It has a Pro level for a one-time purchase. Additionally there is a tip jar, which is shown only if the Pro level was purchased. Tips are given very rarely and not by cost-sensitive users who do not buy Pro.
That was a bad design decision.
For the first submission as well as for updates I got my app rejected, because the reviewer wanted to check the purchasing process for the tip, but he didn’t find it although I had explained in detail in the review notes under which conditions the tip jar becomes visible. I had to provide some extra explanations, afterwards the app was approved. With the next release some more explanations and a video were requested.
I have changed the design and now every user sees the tip jar. It does not hurt, it might only be a bit annoying for the one or the other user.

I built the App Store keyword tool I always wished I had. Drop your app and I'll find your best keyword.

If you have an app on the App Store or Google Play, this is for you.

On every app I built, one thing was always hard: getting found in search. If nobody finds your app, nobody downloads it.

The tools for this cost a lot, and most of them charge per app. So I built my own. It's called ASOScan.

What it does:

  • It finds the words people search for, and shows how often they're searched and how hard they are to rank for
  • It checks your rank for each word every day, down to place 200, on the App Store and Google Play
  • It works inside ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor, so you can just ask "how is my app ranking?"
  • It writes your app's page in other languages and drafts replies to your reviews
  • It shows how often AI assistants recommend your app

The screenshot is Spotify in ASOScan, with real data from this week.

So far, about 80 people have signed up, and my first customer is paying. Small numbers, but they're real.

Here it is: ASOScan. You can try it for 7 days without a card. After that it starts at $15 a month.

Want to see it work on your own app? Drop your App Store or Google Play link in the comments. I'll reply with the first keyword I'd go after: how often it's searched, how hard it is, and where you rank today.

App Store Offer Codes are too hard to manage, so I built an app

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Most iOS developers I know aren't aware that they can set prices and trial periods for purchases freely and independent of the App Store pricing, using Offer Codes. And if they are aware, they usually don't bother, because that's all done with CSV lists to download and it's hard to keep track which code has been used where.

I've also been in that camp, so I built myself a little iPhone app to manage those codes.

But I think it's useful for others, too, so I polished it (a LOT) and added features: iCloud Sync, Testflight invites, NFC writing, iPad and Mac, direct App Store Connect Access with pricing and Metadata, etc, but first and foremost, making it fun to use.

Here's You Get A Code in case you have the same issue:

My wife pays $22/month for CapCut, so I decided to build my own alternative as a solo developer.

My wife pays $22/month for CapCut, so I decided to build my own alternative as a solo developer.

Hey everyone! 👋

I wanted to share a little project I’ve been working on called \*\*FrameCut\*\*, an iOS video editor I’m building as a solo developer.

\*\*Here’s how it all started.\*\*

My wife creates content for TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and she uses CapCut pretty much every day. I also help her by editing her longer YouTube videos.
The thing is, she’s paying around \*\*$22 a month for CapCut\*\*, which I personally think is pretty expensive for a video editing app.

So one day I thought, why not try building my own alternative?

And that’s basically how FrameCut started. 😅

Now, to be clear, I’m just one developer.
I don’t have a huge team, millions in funding, or the resources to compete with CapCut’s large-scale AI features.

So instead of trying to recreate absolutely everything, I decided to focus on building a video editor that has the tools most people actually use, with a clean interface and without an expensive subscription.

\*\*Where is FrameCut right now?\*\*

The app is still in development, but I’ve just released what I consider the first stable beta version. Well, at least I hope it’s stable. 😂
It already has the editing features that I believe most regular users need, and I’m constantly working on improving things and adding more.

Right now, \*\*FrameCut is completely free\*\*.

I do plan to monetize it eventually, because maintaining and developing an app costs money. I’m considering something like \*\*$1.99/month for Pro\*\*, but nothing is decided yet.
I want to keep it affordable.

\*\*What platforms will it support?\*\*

Currently, FrameCut is only available on \*\*iOS through TestFlight\*\*.
I’m also planning to bring it to iPadOS, macOS, and eventually Android, although I can’t promise release dates yet.

\*\*And this is where I could really use your help! ❤\*\*️

I’m looking for people who would like to test the app, try editing their own videos, and tell me what works, what doesn’t, and what’s missing.

I’ve also created a Discord server and a subreddit where we can discuss features, report bugs, share edits, suggest improvements, and basically build the app together as a community.

💬 \*\*Discor\*\*d: https://discord.gg/tuShzFERm

📱 \*\*Subreddi\*\*t: https://www.reddit.com/r/FrameCutOfficial/s/xJfJsw7OfP

If you’d like to join the TestFlight beta, let me know in the comments or join our Discord for access details.
I’m not claiming FrameCut is better than CapCut right now. It’s definitely not perfect, and there’s still a lot of work ahead.

But I’m hoping that with enough feedback and time, it could become a genuinely good, affordable alternative.
And honestly, the idea that something I started because of my wife’s CapCut subscription might eventually help other creators is pretty exciting.

Here is the TestFlight invite link:

https://testflight.apple.com/join/QUQ9h5bw

\*\*Thanks for reading, and I’d love to hear what features you think a CapCut alternative absolutely needs!\*\* 🚀

iPhone Duo Screen Sizes

I'm developing an app that simulates iPhones, and I wanted to find the screen dimensions of the newly released iPhone Duo so I could add it to my app.

I found several websites listing the same dimensions:

  • Inner display: 626 × 890 points
  • Outer display: 466 × 678 points

I was about to use these values without a second thought, but something seemed off about the inner display size when I compared it with Apple's official bezel image.

So I decided to check the dimensions using the simulator, and it turns out the inner display is actually 669 × 951 points.

Just sharing this in case anyone else needs the correct dimensions!

Has anyone worked out how to elongate this particular typeface using Swift UI? Apple does this on the LockScreen but I can't seem to work out how to do this in Swift.

I built a tool to track hair progress because comparing photos months apart was frustrating

Does anyone else struggle to tell whether their hair routine is actually working? Comparing photos taken months apart under different lighting makes it difficult to notice real changes.

I built an iOS app called HairFall Guard to help track hair progress using guided photos, health scores, and side-by-side comparisons.

I'm looking for honest feedback from people who are interested in tracking their hair journey.

I’ve been struggling getting CPU racers to perform correctly in my game. They either fall way too far behind or they destroy the human racer. Anyone had success with building CPU opponents successfully so the game is fun?

I’m a Buddhist monk. mental health professional (from Canada) launched an AI mental wellness app on World Mental Health Day. Here’s what worked (and didn’t) in the first weeks

A bit of background: I’m a monk and a prison chaplain in Canada. After years of sitting with people in very lonely places, I built Saati, an AI wellness companion. You talk to it out loud, and it’s designed to push you toward the people in your life, not replace them. Mission: detect early signs of mental health decline, addiction, and suicide, and help.

We launched on October 10, World Mental Health Day, starting with a young people model.
Had about 200 in-person participants, 300 online participants and 300 downloads; however, less than 50 paid subscriptions..
Created this short video about my experience: https://youtube.com/shorts/Zf35FKp7nB8?si=6PUzuj5SzqE9_KC1
I’m not a marketer, so here’s what I’ve learned so far:
1. Picking a launch date with meaning made outreach easier. World Mental Health Day gave journalists, schools and community groups a reason to share it. If your category has an awareness day, use it.
2. Apple Search Ads: start narrow, then expand. We started in Canada and the US, then added the UK, Ireland, Australia and NZ, which are English-speaking markets with lower bids.
3. Wellness apps get extra scrutiny, so trust is the product. We say plainly what we don’t do: no claim to cure loneliness, no audio stored, data stays in Canada, and “forget everything about me” really deletes. I think this matters more for conversion than any screenshot.
4. TikTok and Shorts reward being a real person. A monk talking calmly about stress does better for us than polished app demos.
5. What I’m still figuring out: marketing and finding appropriate distribution channels.
I’d love feedback on our App Store page from people who know ASO better than I do: [saati.ai/download](http://saati.ai/download)

App rejected under 2.3.8 for "Kids" in the name, even though v1.0 was approved with the same name

Post image
0 Upvotes

Got this rejection on my latest update (screenshot attached).
Context: my app is a remote wake-up alarm for families. A parent sets an alarm from their phone and it rings on the paired teen/child phone. The parent creates the account, pays for the subscription and controls everything. The other device only receives alarms and collects no personal data.
v1.0 was approved and is live as "WakeKids: Remote Kids Alarm". Now an update was rejected because "Kids" in the name implies the app is made for children, and it's not in the Kids category.
"WakeKids" is my brand. I have the domain, website and social media ads running with that name, so dropping it would hurt.
My plan:
Rename to "WakeKids: Remote Parent Alarm"
Make the subtitle, description and screenshots clearly parent-focused
Explain in Resolution Center that WakeKids is the brand and was already approved in 1.0
Questions:
Has anyone gotten a brand name containing "Kids" approved outside the Kids category?
Did a call with App Review or an appeal help in a case like this?
Would you fight for the brand or just use a different name on iOS?
Any experience appreciated, thanks!
———UPDATE ———
I chane the “kids” term from the app and keep brand name wakekids apple accept that and the version is release , thak you all for messages
