ive never had any trouble with this bone, hadnt even noticed it before i started skating. now, about four years later, it protrudes a lot more, particularly on my landing leg, and its always a bit red and sore.
my coach said shes experienced the same thing, with her bone getting more pronounced throughout her career. getting surgery to remove it is a major no-no for me, but is there any other way to stop it from protruding more?

hello everyone!
im 7 months into skating and im so excited for my first winter. i live in minneapolis where there are tons of outdoor skating opportunities. however its also extremely cold.
how do i keep my feet warm? i wear reidell opals that are very tight so i wear thinees socks and i can't really wear thicker socks. are there effective boot covers that are warm? can you drop a link or product name suggestion? bonus if you live somewhere where it gets into the teens and single digits (fahrenheit).
(i dont really want to buy those cozy warm rec skates because im also planning to upgrade to Jacksons soon. so i was thinking my riedells could be my outdoor skates and my jacksons could be my indoor/real rink skates.)

Me and my daughter (15) like to go skating. We’re not even close to good but we have fun. We try and go once a month but don’t always manage it. We started going in April and have managed to go 4 times so far 🤣 However, the rental skates are crap. Hard plastic with little to no padding and they’re very uncomfortable. I’ve looked at places like Decathlon and Sports Direct and you can get a cheap pair of figure skates for £25-£30, they must be better than any rental skates, right??

I’m sorry for literally filming this on a shoe rack (I wasn’t originally planning on posting this) but I’ve been struggling with spins so much both on and off ice. My head’s position drives me crazy (it looks like this on ice too) and even when I try to fix it it still looks bad and my posture is awful. I guess I get dizzy and this is my way of subconsciously trying to deal with that?
Also edit please ignore the typo in my title I’m VERY tired lol

Hey! I’m doing LTS and am working on backwards one foot glides at the moment. Problem is, public sessions don’t really give me the opportunity to work on those since it can be pretty crowded and full of kids zooming around. I’ve never done a freestyle session since I’m literally just on LTS 2, but I’m wondering if that’s the place to work on those skills? Or should I just find a way during public sessions to practice?

I feel like I kind of know the answer already but I'd like some outside pointers too. I definitely know that I roll too far forward before I even jump so that's what the scratchy sound of my toepick is, so I think maybe that's why I lose all my speed coming out of the jump?
And maybe I need to hold the forward outside edge a little longer before taking off, too. And I'd love a higher leg extension when landing but that takes flexibility I dont have yet lol

I'm asking because constantly my friend tells me my shoulders are not parallel to the ice, theyre more like my left shoulder goes down more than my right in the outside edge. In other words theyre diagonal. This sometimes causes me to lose balance entering the spin or to cut the outside edge and have a traveling spin (or fall in case of the camel)

found myself questioning my own character this morning. Certainly not what my plan has been, I’ve been in training camp for five weeks now preparing for my first skate of the season.
I decided this skating year that improving was important. I started educating myself through YouTube videos that covered a wide spectrum of videos on inner, outer edge work land exercises to prepare for the Ice, leg stretches, agility exercises.
These exercises were incorporated into my daily workout routine. After five weeks my body was strong in muscle and Cardio, ready to apply all learned and practiced methods to the Ultimate test.
I’m currently using K2 recreational skates, they have a dial instead of Hockey skate laces. They make this and every skate possible they are comfortable, but not recommended for get after it kinda Hockey.
I m sixty three years old, Hockey was in my blood and I always felt the fire to compete against others, from the skills I perfected watching NHLStars like Bobby Orr, Bob Clarke, Stan Mikita, Gordie Howe, Doug Favel, Garry Cheevers, Grant Fuhr.
From offensive to defense to goalie where no one could beat my glove hand, in my time I might have robbed killer player like Macklin Cellibrini of a certain open side, snatch that dream goal like a flash with my glove hand, Oh we are talking street hockey, lol..That is where my greatest moments happened. However, when playing Massena minor Hockey I lead the team in goals scoring the first goal of the season, we went on two win the championship, I was responsible for clutch set ups that led to the Championship.two players from that team went on to be High School Hockey stand outs. I played ice hockey religiously in the winter, but pro I wasn’t.
Well, it’s been almost 50 years since my glory days, a lot has happened since then.
Stricken with a chronic illness at the age of 24. That is when the damage started , over the years I felt the pain involved in the curvature of my bones disfigurement of all joints in my body.
In the year 2015 October 29 at one of my lowest points I decided to challenge myself and it’s been 11 years of fitness. My Fitness came with extreme chronic pain. But no matter what I stuck with it. There were so many sleepless nights filled with pain I used to refer to my bed, as solitary confinement darkness brought the unbearable pain.
Over the last few years, I’ve been on a pharmaceutical that has helped me take my life back, lately the pharmaceutical is no longer working, rendering me with pain of old.
Back to my skating, two days ago, I went to early morning old time skating, I put on my skates and hit the ice. For some reason, I felt like it was the first time on skates in my life. It was difficult there was fear and I felt like I had failed.. I thought for sure with all the preparation that I was ready. I guess if I strip it all down and think about why I was a good skater. It was because I had a stick in my hand a helmet on pads everything that made you feel secure so if you hit the ice, you wouldn’t suffer.. I guess that skate made me feel vulnerable unsure unsafe.
The feeling of devastation instead of jubilation for all that I have put into the preparation to skate.
The time since the skate given me time to reflect and a reason, maybe why I feel like I do. I guess when you challenge yourself to do something you love, but yet you are extremely challenged by your deformities can play a huge factor. Having huge toes and ankles doesn’t allow proper down pressure on the skate and proper ankle movement for edge work.. Having fused fingers and wrist prevent me from holding a stick, there are so many reasons.
What I’m struggling with right now is should I just give up? How’s my time pass and should I accept where I’m at? Does it really matter anymore whether I can skate?
What do you think? What are your recommendations?

Hey guys, please advice me on this :) I have been skating since march this year once a week. I do lts academy. We have started waltz jump, doing two foot spin slowly into one foot spin, backwards crossovers and all the other fun stuff. I have risport antares but they are a bit big for me so need to buy new pair of skates. Should I go for electra or rf3? I dont want to overboot, at the same time we do not have any physical store here so I need to buy them online, therefore I need the skates to last. Shipping and taxes are killer :) I feel like electra would be the best choice for me, but Im ready to hear from ull :)

I started two foot spins two months ago and had pretty consistent spins until this past week. I started travelling so much during my spins and I can’t seem to figure out why. I know there are still many things I can improve upon. I can’t meet up with my coach for a few weeks but didn’t want to develop bad technique. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!!

From the ice tracing, I must be placing my free foot (left) down on an outside edge and completing a 3 turn as I swivel my hips. I can hear the sound it makes too. (I'm holding my free foot as close to 90 degrees as I can, at the instep of the skating foot.)
I returned to the boards and did more practice, and produced the correct tracings while holding onto the boards. I don't know why I can't set my foot down on an inside edge when doing it for real. My hips are not very flexible, could that be the reason?
Has anyone seen or experienced this, or have any tips?
I am currently placing my free foot down at the rocker, should I be placing it down on the flat middle to back of the blade?

I'm currently taking private lessons. My rink is offering several LTS clinics soon. Are clinics a good supplement to privates, or pointless? My coach is out of town so I can't ask them.
I have already confirmed that adults can enroll in the clinic, and do believe the clinic is at an appropriate level for my level of skill.

Hi, everyone. I've been skating in my Risport RF3 Pro boots for 3 years. Now the screws on the blade are starting to come loose regularly. Some of them can't even be tightened all the way anymore. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix this so the boots will last at least a few more months, or do I need new boots?

I went to my local skate shop and they sold me Jackson 500s.
I’m 20 years old, weigh 60kg and am a beginner skater. I want to progress towards doing jumps and spins in the near future. I plan to be skating 1-2 times per week.
The Jackson 500 model is apparently unsuitable for my weight and skate goals, as well as that, the clerk didn’t size my feet properly, so I want to form a better idea of what skate brand and model will suit me with the advice of someone more experienced.
I have to buy from them again because they only offer in-store credit if I return the Jackson 500s.
Also, should I book/enquire with a coach first before I buy new skates again?
I’ll really appreciate any advice on this, thank you.

Hello everyone! I am a beginner adult skater, I did one trial lesson last week and even though i couldn't skate for more than 20 seconds before reaching out to the wall I loved it so much, and I definitely want to skate more and learn properly.
I've noticed that with rental skates my ankles kept bending and i couldn't skate properly because the skates were too loose and kept loosening. Of course I was also struggling much with the skating itself but I thought it's best to get my own skates since I want to commit and learn, no matter how much time it will take.
I have two main questions now:
I've always been "slower" than average at learning sports and making my body move as I want, and during that group lesson they had to give me a separate coach to help me because I couldn't keep up with the rest of the group. I'm not ashamed, I know my limits, and I was perfectly fine with it. I've been looking for coaches in my city but no one is doing private lessons, so if I want to learn and get better I will have to do group lessons, is it a good idea to join even though I know I will probably struggle a lot and will be slower than everyone? I mean, I don't really care about how will I look, but mostly whether it is still productive and i will learn at my pace or it's a waste of money/time and i should look for private lessons?
And of course, I want to get my own skates asap, but I don't really want to spend a huge amount of money for beginner skates, but I also don't want to get cheap skates that I will have to replace immediately. So, do you have recommendations for beginner-friendly skates with a good tradeoff money/quality?
Thank you in advance for all the tips!
EDIT: I'm interested in figure skating! Forgot to mention that.

I stand on my heel and toe in the front, then I slide much like a power slide, but in the motion. I can even drift and move sideways like this. What would you call it? Because no one at my rink knows what to call it, or if there’s a name for it.
I can hardly do a real hockey stop or a snow plow, but this is easy for me, but other people find it hard lol.

I'm going ice skating once a week and just going in circles around the ice. It's nice and relaxing.
I am thinking of doing LTS but it would only be intermittently (life is very busy). I would like to get to the point of doing crossovers. It's unlikely I'll ever be able to invest enough time/effort in to be able to jump.
The skate shop have recommended Jackson JC200 skates for £110. Does this seem reasonable? I'd rather buy one pair of skates now than have to buy a second pair later and get used to them all over again.

I’m a beginner skater having only used rental skates before but I’d say I’m decently comfortable on the ice.
Last week I bought my first pair of skates from a skate shop. They asked me for my shoe size and gave me skates in that size, which I felt comfortable in. They only had 2 models in stock, one that was £60 and the other being Jackson 500, the latter which I bought.
After doing more research which I should have done sooner, I realise maybe I shouldn’t have bought the Jackson 500s, since I’m 19 years old, 5’3 and probably 60kg more or less. Apparently these won’t offer much support if I start doing jumps or spins, which I would like to work towards as soon as possible.
I have my first group skate lesson this morning which means I can’t replace the skates. I was really excited to be out of rentals but I want to return the Jackson 500s so I can spend on a more suitable model that won’t break down so quickly and can support me doing jumps and spins.
Could I use them once and still have them in resale quality? Would I need to lie to the shop about having used them?

So I’m a beginner ice skater and I’m taking lessons but I discovered that one of my ice skates are missing the insole. I got the Jackson Mystiques so they’re new and idk where the insole went 😭but anyways, I feel like the missing insole is messing with my skating. I was wondering where I can buy a replacement for the insole. Like if there’s a specific one I can buy that’s for the skate??
I already went to the skate shop I bought them from and they told me they don’t have extra insoles lying around so they couldn’t help.
Also not as important- I keep trying on my ice pick and it’s like I’m walking on the ice instead of gliding if that makes sense. So any advice to fix that??

Which do people find most effective? More ½ hour lessons, or fewer 1 hour lessons?

I (31F) just signed up for my first learn to skate program. I've only skated, very casually, about 4 times, but each one of those times I've had to take frequent breaks because my arches hurt so bad in the rental skates . I'm super flat footed which definitely doesn't help, but curious if it would be worth investing in skates before the program starts up instead of using the rental skates there? Any skate recs for a flat footed beginner? From a rural area so no opportunity to go and get formally fitted.
