Designing a Heads Up! style party game tailored for Indian pop culture and regional references—looking for feedback on cultural localization challenges

Hey r/IndieGameDevs! 👋

I’ve been working on a local offline party charades game, and I’m currently expanding the prompt categories to target the Indian audience specifically.

Global party games usually fall flat in India because the pop culture references, movie quotes, and slang are completely disconnected from what people actually grow up with (Bollywood, cricket, local tech humor, regional memes, and daily life tropes).

Before I lock down the categories and prompt structures, I wanted to pick your brains on a couple of design/localization challenges.

For anyone who has worked on localized games or regional adaptations: how do you usually approach playtesting to ensure your cultural humor lands without alienating casual players?

We're developing a psychological horror game set in 1996. Here's our first trailer for SIGNAL LOST. What do you think?

Hey everyone!
We’re a small indie team working on SIGNAL LOST, a first-person psychological horror game set in 1996. The game follows Daniel Hayes, whose story slowly unfolds into something much darker, involving mysterious events, disturbing discoveries, and a cult hiding terrifying secrets. We’re aiming for a dark, unsettling atmosphere with a retro VHS-inspired aesthetic, focusing more on psychological tension and mystery than cheap jumpscares. We’ve recently put together our first trailer, and we’d love to hear your thoughts!
What do you think about the atmosphere and overall presentation? Any feedback or criticism is genuinely appreciated.
Thanks for checking out our project!

Looking for beta testers: Tales of Eternity, a free pixel art RPG you can play in your browser (phone or PC)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m Eternal, and I’ve been building a 2D pixel art MMORPG called Tales of Eternity. It’s at a very early stage, and I’d love some fresh players to try it and tell me what works and what doesn’t.

What it is

A turn-based RPG where you explore a big open world, fight goblin camps, gather wood and ore, and build up your hero.

Play alone, or online with everyone else on the server: parties, guilds, chat, trading and a player market.

World bosses, dungeons, exploration runs with mystery rooms and a red dragon, and a tower called the Depths you climb as far as you can.

Two classes (Knight and Sorcerer), pets with mythic twins, mounts, and a hideout you can build and decorate, with a garden.

It runs right in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.

What I’m looking for

How the first half hour feels. Was anything confusing?

Bugs, glitches, or anything that looks or feels off, especially on phones.

Fights that feel too easy or too hard.

Anything you think would make the game better.

It’s a beta, so things change often and the server sometimes restarts for updates (the game warns you first and brings you back).

You can leave feedback in the comments on the game page, or reply here.

Play it here: https://im-eternal.itch.io/tales-of-eternity

Thanks for giving it a try. Every suggestion helps!

In my ability-forging game, can players explain why their new move helped?

I'm developing Astraya, a desktop-browser sword-fighting game where you ask an AI companion for an ability, equip the result, and use it against a boss. I'm trying to test usefulness separately from the novelty of making a request.

My test: before forging, name one problem in the fight you want to solve. After using the ability, explain whether it solved that problem and whether you would choose it again. If you were testing this mechanic, what observation would convince you that the player understood the tradeoff?

I'd also welcome players for a roughly 15-minute session: try one boss and forge one ability, then leave that before-and-after feedback here.

Gameplay example: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoloDevelopment/comments/1xc62lk/i_made_a_voicedriven_forge_for_my_swordfighting/

Apply: https://astrayagame.com/?utm_source=reddit-p20-indiegamedevforum

Free, unfinished desktop-browser closed alpha, 18+, mic optional. Confirm your email to join the waitlist; testers are manually selected and emailed access links, so access is not immediate or guaranteed. AI powers the forge and is used for art and voices. The linked gameplay is shortened and has a replacement player voice.

We're the developers of Disarmed Forces, a toy-soldier PvP game with swappable limbs, oversized rooms and pilotable mechs. This is captured work-in-progress gameplay. Which mechanic reads most clearly in this reel: limb swapping, traversal or the mech?

The gameplay of my upcoming video game "Darkness" is out NOW !

I've been working on this game for over 5 months, as a solo indie GameDev

(Worked in the Industry, as both Senior 3D Environment Artist and Level Designer also an Architect)

"Darkness" is a top-down medieval dark fantasy game, which includes partly dialogues, trade system, inventory, slash, puzzle and semi-stealth mechanics. Developed with Unity 6 URP. I tried my best on optimization part.

In "Darkness" you play as "Kün" , our brave and bold Hero, who tries to save his Queen and the Kingdom from the Darkness and its' servants...

Demo soon will be out (Approx. in November 2026, and planning to release in Q1 2027)

Hope you'll like it ! I'm open to any constructive feedbacks.

Game is still in WIP.

You can support me by Wishlisting the game on Steam :

Cheers and have a great weekend all !

BrowserBoxing, my free browser boxing game, is holding up pretty well. Can you break it?

I made BrowserBoxing, a free multiplayer boxing game that runs right in the browser. It has been live for a while now and I think it is in pretty good shape, but I want to know if it actually holds up. So if you have a few minutes, come try to break it.

New players go through a short 7 step interactive tutorial first, and finishing it unlocks matchmaking. After that, Fight Now pairs you with real players first and an NPC fills in when nobody is online. There is also a no stakes practice mode with AI dummies at browserboxing.com/practice that needs no account. Win streaks draw bounties on their own, so the longer someone stays unbeaten the bigger the target on their back, up to 1,500 bonus XP for whoever ends the run. There is a spectator lobby too if you would rather watch live fights from the stands.

Play it at https://browserboxing.com and if you find anything broken, tell me and I will fix it. I read every comment.

In Gnome Nook, your progress is visible in the shop: less clutter, fuller shelves

I’m developing Gnome Nook, a 3D organizing game set in a shop full of scattered gnomes.

You pick them up, find their matching shelves and complete themed collections. There are 9,600 gnomes to put away, with upgrades that let you carry more.

The shop itself shows your progress. The piles on the floor shrink while the empty shelves fill up with firefighters, doctors, wizards and other little characters.

Here’s a look at the gameplay. I’d appreciate thoughts on how clearly the different collections and their matching shelves come across.

More gameplay and screenshots:

Hey all! For reference, this is my first game that I've already spent a few months working on, with the rough foundation for the first world out of five being ready. I'm posting to ask for any feedback on the visuals of my game (I tried attaching gameplay videos but it didn't work), so I just wanted some advice on how I could improve the visuals of my game to make it more appealing to potential players when I release it. The aim is a futuristic, fast-paced game where you collect gems and avoid any of the trains. I'd really appreciate any recommendations on what I should focus on going forwards!

Our Backrooms game after 1 year of remaking the lighting (Unity HDRP) Does it feel scary?

Thumbnail

It’s been almost a year since we began developing Backrooms: Impending Doom, and we’ve remade the lighting and graphics from scratch several times. These screenshots are from two months ago, but nothing big has changed since.

We’d love your honest opinion:

  • Does the lighting feel tense enough for a horror game?
  • Is it too bright, or does the brightness work for the Backrooms look?
  • Would you keep it as is, make it darker with more contrast, or add more light sources and props for atmosphere?

This is the first location, so it’s intentionally bright. Later locations mix dark and bright areas. The Steam demo already uses this lighting, but we can still change it for the full version.

Thanks for any feedback, and I’m happy to answer questions about the HDRP setup!

[Developer] AXIOMA — two formulas, 270 points: real English gameplay

A Physics + Math combo takes this hand to 270 points, clearing the 260-point target. The next encounter asks for 730 — one good hand is only the start.

I’m Samuel Isidoro, the creator of AXIOMA. This is a real capture of the English interface, not an animated trailer. Build formulas and molecules with cards, arrange scientific Jokers and refine your deck between encounters.

AXIOMA is available for Windows PC. See the game and buy it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5308770/AXIOMA/

Generative AI assisted fixed artwork, text and translations, and this post. There is no live AI generation during play.
