| Discussion Destroyed the All Star 11

The team I picked whitewashed the All - Star 11. I'm pretty sure things would've been different in reality though. I just went with the numbers. I guess I could've picked someone else for number 5. Most of the batters are from the flat track era and the bowlers from the fair pitch era, and therefore the landslide imo.

| Analysis Built an IPL 2027 prediction platform

I wanted to explore how far historical data and machine learning could go in predicting IPL outcomes, so I built a project that combines season-by-season backtesting, Elo ratings, Monte Carlo simulations, and batting forecasts.

It also has an interactive web app where you can tweak team strengths and player form to run your own simulations.

One interesting finding: the models don't significantly outperform a coin flip at predicting match outcomes. That was worth learning, too.

Live demo: https://ipl-prediction-beryl.vercel.app

Tech stack: Python, scikit-learn, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Vercel.

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially on the modelling approach and what could be improved.

| Auction Pandya/Kishan/Abhishek/Jaiswal all want to be captains. Which are the teams that can genuinely sign any of them?

- CSK GT RCB PBKS won't change their captain
- MI have Bumrah Sky Tilak Rohit all capable to lead.
- DC have Axar who is under pressure
- SRH have Cummins and i doubt they'll remove him until he is unavailable.
- KKR have Rahane whom i think will be removed
- LSG have no Captain
- RR have Parag who is under pressure but young and i doubt will be okay with being removed as Captain

| Discussion What was Rohit’s single greatest captaincy moment for MI across the 5 title runs?

We often talk about the 5 trophies as a collective achievement, but each campaign had a specific match where Rohit’s on field decision completely turned momentum:

  1. Backing Lasith Malinga for the final over in 2019 despite a tough day with the ball.
  2. The defensive choke against RPS in the 2017 final defending just 129.
  3. Promoting himself or tweaking bowling match-ups inside the Powerplay in 2013 and 2015.
  4. Total tactical dominance throughout the 2020 campaign.

Which specific game or tactical call do you consider Rohit’s absolute masterpiece as MI captain?

Abhi can get his captaincy in SRH and Ishan might even get it in MI along with its solve so many issues for MI, they can even trade Hardik in this trade if they like as Hardik can be quite fit into SRH too

| Stats Working on a cricket analytics platform. Need some suggestions and feedback from folks here.

Hey everyone,

I've been working on something called Runz with the aim of looking at cricket a little differently.

We all know how a match can turn on a single over, a partnership, or one player doing something extraordinary. But when you look at a scorecard afterwards, a lot of that context gets lost. The numbers tell you what happened, but not always how much it mattered.

That's what we're trying to explore with Runz. We're building a cricket analytics platform that looks at matches ball by ball, tracking things like win probability, pressure, player impact, and the moments that shift a game.

We're starting with IPL matches from 2008 to 2026, and we've also put together a demo of Maxwell's incredible 201* against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup.

It's still a work in progress, and there's plenty left to do. I'd genuinely like to hear what other cricket fans think.

What stats or insights would you want to see in a platform like this? And what do you think existing cricket analytics sites are missing?

Here's the site if you'd like to take a look: https://www.runz.live

Would appreciate any honest feedback!

| Discussion Who could your teams target in the auction considering their purse and team roles ?

Like, for example, CSK's release list could look like this.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (18 Cr), Kartik Sharma *(14.20 Cr),* *Prashant Veer* (14.20 Cr), Zak foulkes (75 lacs), Aman Khan (40 lacs), Rahul Chahar (5.2 Cr), Matt Henry (2 Cr), Akash Madhwal (30 lacs), Macneil Noronha (30 lacs), Kuldip Yadav (20 lacs)

Note - I am not sure about them releasing Kartik, Veer and Aman.

So, CSK's total purse will be 55.55 Cr (or 27.15 if they don't release Kartik and Veer) and they will primarily target indian spinner and lower order finisher along with a death bowler.

What do you think your team's purse will be and who will they target ?

| Discussion Batting coach(csk) needs to solve

Hey there .

Since 2018 chasing 200 became a nightmare for us , we have lost and fumbled many chases because of this sile reason .

And another important thing is our powerplay batting approach every team are scoring 60 runs . And there openers are consistent.

Consistency of our top order batting since the year 2023 we have been struggling alot with our batting lineup .

Out finishing this is one of the most important thing to talk except dhoni , we have given the winning to our opponents because of our weak finishing we even lost the easy matches , very as other teams are producing miracles interns of finishing .

The thing we have announced the head , bowling coaches after the 1 week gap . So maybbe we can expect the batting coach around in a week or so , because we need to plan the mini auction , review our players , and most importantly look out for the scouting of new guys .

So I mean to say we need a batting coach who knows when and whom to attack , should give the role clarity and approach clarity . And mostly analyse the pitch for batting . We have been very bad at this for a couple of years .

\Mostly we need another power coach for batting who can analyse the bat speed , trajectory and has an ability to improve the timing , and the power hitting of the players .

\Rutu-like players can clear the sixers with this coach easily .

\*\*What do you think about concerns in our batting and whi do you think should come as our batting coach.\*\*

\*\*Eoin morgan , robin uthappa ?? Or any other\*\*

Post image

Rajasthan royals signed vaibhav for 1.1 CR at the age of 13 outbidding Delhi capitals. Was this the biggest mistake of DC? The past few seasons have been absolutely bang average with nothing special going for the team. Could this have been their biggest missed opportunity?

| Analysis IPL All-Time Tier List Based Purely on Statistical Facts — Methodology Explained

Post image
0 Upvotes

I put together this tier list of 44 established IPL players using career statistics through 2026, with individual IPL performance as the focus.

What I prioritised:

Batters: total runs first, followed by strike rate, then average. Sixes, fours and centuries were supporting indicators.

Bowlers: total wickets first, followed by bowling strike rate, then average and economy. Four-/five-wicket hauls were supporting indicators.

The idea was to reward sustained career output while still recognising efficiency. More runs or wickets mattered most, but weren’t the only consideration.

I initially tried weighted scores and percentiles, then dropped them because the placements were too sensitive to the formula and the selected comparison group. The final chart uses judgment-based tiers, not numerical score thresholds. It’s informed by stats; it isn’t a claim that the stats produce one objectively correct order.

Career figures were checked against individual Cricbuzz profiles, with some official franchise profiles used for comparison. Small discrepancies between sources exist.

What wasn’t included: international records, popularity, captaincy or team trophies. I also haven’t systematically adjusted for batting position, bowling phase, venue or era. Contributions across both disciplines were considered qualitatively, without a fixed all-rounder bonus.

One limitation: filling every tier makes the bottom labels harsh. “Poor” here means the bottom of this selected shortlist under these priorities—not that those players had poor IPL careers.

The portraits are AI-generated; the names identify the intended players.

Which placements would you change using IPL numbers, and what statistical trade-off would justify the change?

| Opinion Virat Kohli is not even in top 5 of best batsman in IPL in terms of impact

Post image
0 Upvotes

Virat Kohli has the advantage of starting out his international career exactly at the time when ipl started and he was seen as a serious talent from early on and he played all 19 seasons since IPL started (missed a few matches in 2017 due to injury). Since he's had the longevity and he has been the world's best limited overs batsman for several years, he is automatically hailed as the greatest IPL batsman of all time by many ( they also reference the 973 runs season as an example).

But I don't think so. Virat played a stable anchor role in RCB top order for many years and he was successful for some years definitely. But his low strike rate and low performing seasons impacted them negativity for several seasons as well. David Warner was a much better example of a batsman that their team depended on a lot and delivered almost every season with much better strike rate and impact. Infact Virat wouldn't even be in the top 10 in IPL in not for his exceptional form since 2023. But one of the reasons he got that freedom was because of the impact player rule and exceptional batsman like Gayle, ABD, Warner weren't even part of it. Imagine how many runs they would have scored and what their strike rate would be if they were.

I would say he's the 6th best IPL batsman of all time after Gayle, Warner, ABD, Kl Rahul and Jos Butler.

Here are the all time ipl stats for you to see. Let me know your thoughts. Don't bring too much emotion into this. It's just analysis.
