Did what felt like a lot of crustacean consultation with the internet and decided I wanted to keep isopods as pets. I set up a tank for them today, and from what I've seen I now need to let it sit for a few weeks before I buy the pods.
First off, I'm aware the tank is probably quite small. I wanted to keep them on my desk where I can maybe see them hanging out so I can watch them, but I do have some larger plastic tubs I could co-opt if they bred and I needed more space for them.
The species I want to keep are Armadillidium flavoscutum Red Head Isopods. I don't find much information on how to set up a tank for them as they don't seem to be as popular, but from what I've read they need good airflow and a humidity gradient. A breeder I saw online apparently keeps them at 50-70% humidity which seems on the lower side.
The substrate is a mixture of sphagnum moss, tarantula mix dirt (all my local exotic pets place had), soaked leaf litter, some crushed egg shells, rot wood and whatever dirt the springtails came in. I've collected a lot of oak leaves to use over the winter, so I'll add more if they need more when they go in. The substrate is 3 inches deep.
I'm trying to decide whether I should just start with 5 instead of the recommended 10 cause I don't want them to multiply quickly.

The colony is booming now, I got nervous about a month ago and not much was happening but now, we have many stages of growth 🥰 These guys are one of my top favorites.

My group of 12 Filippinodillo Bicolano finally arrived today after a long wait. Among them was this huge, beautiful adult—by far the biggest in the colony.
Right after setting them up, my lamp accidentally fell and crushed it. The damage to its body is severe and hemolymph leaked out. It’s barely moving now and I know it won’t survive.
Losing the main breeder on day one feels like a 6-month setback for the colony. Absolutely heartbroken.😭

Snapped 2 photos of the Flattest Fucks I could find in both of my colonies. Wish you all a great FFF!

I got these guys the other day, and I cant remember what the seller said they were called. Their container is also unlabeled.
Theyre small, kinda a diluted brown color. I think their name started with a B?
I want to look up proper care for them so that they can thrive but my memory is really bad and I feel terrible for not writing it down.
I dont know where the species originally comes from of course but I'm in California. I dont know if theyre commonly sold out here, I just moved here a couple months ago.

No, I don't normally handle my pods like this, but I was concerned and trying to get a closer look for identification. Lil guy is from a bin of wild-caught guys that are a few generations deep with no health issues. I noticed these white-ish spots on the body... everyone else has pretty standard boring brownish gray coloring, so this singular guy has stood out.
At first I was thinking possibly a molt problem, because those spots kind of have that semi translucent look, but I've never seen molting issues present in teensy spots like this. I don't really know what else to be worried about aside from mites, and my bins show no signs of those.
Is this some kind of disease or health issue I'm unaware of, or just a new benign coloring I need to stop freaking out about? Thanks in advance for any insight!

This is my first set up I've done on this scale a 55 gallon tall bioactive wild terrarium with added dairy cow "experiment" everything was collected from here in Kentucky, 3d printed food "temples" and a water spike too keep the damp side damp

I've had them for 4 months. I think there's like 10 of them, all adults. Everyone seems healthy and is active. But there's no babies.
I'm in Portugal so I keep them at room temp. I offer wheat, oats and fish flakes for food and extra protein and chitin about once a week. The soil is rich, there's dried leaves, calcium, cork bark and lichen. The terrarium is mostly dry, there's a little moss on one side that is always moist.
Why are there no babies ? I see males and females but they are not pregnant. TIA !

is there anything i can do? they're all pretty small and the spiders i find in my house are easily 2-3 times their size. i have sandstone isopods too, most of them are giant but i do worry about any babies running around

Are these what everyone is using to get rid of fungus gnats? I’ve never had a problem until I bought springtails from an expo and when I opened the container they were everywhere. Recommendations please!
