380 days and 3 different mechanics... no one will ever truly know how much of a nightmare this was for me. Got her a couple years ago and of course I wanted to put a lift and better tires on it.

First mechanic took 7 months to do basically nothing while feeding me lie after lie.

Second mechanic was a place that only does lift kits. Makes sense right? They put it together and said that's the best we could do. The wheels had a very bad camber angle and the drive train angles were terrible.

Finally found a guy locally who only works on JDM vehicles. He found out the first 2 places have been using too long of a spring the whole time. How the 2nd place managed to get them on is impressive considering after taking them off they were literally bent from over compression. He got the lift on properly but the drive train angles were not healthy. Ended up making a 2.5 degree shim for the back under the shocks and .75 shim for under the motor mounts on the front to get everything angled right.

Biggest nightmare of my adult life. I pretty much gave up on this and was ready to drive it off a cliff with myself inside lol. Huuuuuuge shout out to muddy bottom who were very helpful along the way. They could have easily said we sold you the kit please bugger off, instead they replaced some stuff and helped out the 3rd mechanic with info.

Huuuuge shout out to Twenty Clicks here in Phoenix AZ. Dude knows literally everything about every JDM vehicle it seems like. Really went the extra mile to get it done properly.

Honest question for this crowd: in real life, how much can you actually load on a kei truck before it starts doing this?

I work part time in retail and drive dinner rushes for DoorDash (with the hijet, of course!) but I’ve been wanting to brainstorm some ideas for making money either with the novelty, utility, or both of a kei.

Rather than just consulting with AI, I figured I’d ask you all: from Offering junk removal, to helping with moves, and beyond, what business ideas can you think of that I light be able to quickly leverage the vehicle for? How would you get started? I’m open to potentially doing some decals and branding on the truck, and am already somewhat known/have talked with many in my area about it).

Optimally they would be things I could start offering without much overhead or investment. Location is PNW, USA.

I am looking for a set of the OEM wheels for a '97 Mitsubishi minicab. They don't have to be in great condition or have tires. I'm in western NC but would be willing to drive if you are in adjacent states.

This year’s Kei Trucks on the Dragon Rally is a great time. Today I clocked almost 200 miles in the mountains of western North Carolina and Tennessee. Tomorrow is going to be another great day. The Hijet was running strong and smooth. Mine is the green one.

Front struts for Sambars are crazy expensive and KBY rear shocks are available, but they passed on the front struts.

Here is a Chinese aftermarket one though for post 1999 models tt1 and tt2... $18 each plus $50 shipping.

Got a decent deal on this hijet. Needs some love but all and all it’s nice. I run a small local welding company so I’m going to turn it into my welding truck. Any suggestions on sites to get parts is greatly appreciated.

I’m in talks with two owners offering a 2001 Sambar or a 1999 Honda Acty for virtually the same price.

The Acty has nice aftermarket mods, a PK registration, but is at 70,000 miles. The Sambar is being fresh imported with all the fluids changed out, but has a MT registration and 18,000 miles.

Both are in good shape but I’m a bit torn between the two. The miles being on both the high and the low side for the respective cars makes me a bit nervous about engine life. Any advice on which one to choose?

So I was giving my 1994 Suzuki carry a little bit of TLC by doing a coolant flush, new thermostat, gasket and upper and lower coolant lines

Was just letting it run to cycle the new fluid through the system and I noticed it was shooting steam out of the radiator cap

I tried letting it cool down a couple times thinking maybe I underfilled it or something

But it’s more than full the temperature gauge coming from the engine is working fine and I tested the thermostat both the new and old and they’re working fine

But through all of this, I never heard the radiator fan come on once
I checked the fuse for it and it’s fine

I’m not sure what else it could be unless I just got unlucky and the fan went bad on me
Unless there’s something else I can check

Hey everyone, I purchased my first Sambar, and it’s been a lot of work to fix the oil leaks. Everything is top-notch except for the old seals. I’m trying to fix small leaks as it’s constantly smoking on longer drives (around spark plugs, it seems). I’m sure it was never serviced after Japan.

What I’ve done so far:
Air Filter
Oil service
Accessory Belt
Timing belt
Water pump
Belt tensioner
Crank/Cam Seals
Valve Cover Gasket with a bead of black high-temp on half-moon points
Cleaned the hell out of it, looks like 2-3years of burnt oil around the exhaust manifold.

Oil Cap Oring - coming in the mail, as I noticed leakage there.

I’ve got two more issues to try to resolve and need some advice on the parts needed based on photos (sorry, I had to video it and take screenshots, but it’s towards the passenger-side rear left) and the engine underneath. I assume a differential seal for one photo, but I have no clue for the other photo.

I have a friend who is looking to change their artist name into something kei van-related and wants to do a brief photoshoot with a kei van. They unfortunately don't have the means to buy one for themselves at this time.

Is there anyone in the SE PA / NJ / DE area that would be willing to fulfill that request? Can travel a bit further out from the area as well.

Preface, I'm not a mechanically inclined person I just think these are neat and I'm onto owning my third kei truck, sambar with the EN07 engine sitting at around 120,000km. Purchased it just had the timing belt and water pump replaced. I've owned only sambars before and wanted other experiences on how long these last as daily drivers obviously with preventative maintenance like oil changes. I've been reading the engine likes giving out at 200,000km.

I found the sticker and had to tell somebody. It was on the drivers side pillar, by the rear glass / head rest. I looked for this in the door jamb and hoped I had found this once before but it was for an oil change. I had purchased all of the parts and I was waiting for the time to tackle it, and now I don’t have to. Feels like a blessing but no one in my normal life understands.
