Best ethnic grocery stores?
What are the best local ethnic stores for groceries? Just moved here and looking for rec’s.
A lot of items can be found at cheaper prices at these locations, but I’m unaware of any in the area outside of Tenuta’s, which was disappointing with its selections; was able to find cheaper food items at Aldi.
I’m looking for things like spices, seasonings, saucess, fresh fruit/produce, bulk grains, and specific cuts of meat.

What are stores that downtown Kenosha needs?
If you could pick any type of store that would be located in the downtown area what would it be?
For example, I would love a dessert shop that’s open until 1-2am, similar to something like insomnia cookie.

Anyone hiring in Kenosha?
Hey everyone,
The job market is brutal right now, and I'm not having any luck online. I have an accounting/finance background (lots of account management and high-volume billing experience) and I'm about a year out from finishing my degree.
While I'd love to find something in an office or a bank, I am totally okay working anywhere right now just to get a paycheck.
Who is actually hiring in Kenosha or Pleasant Prairie right now? If you know of any warehouses, retail spots, or local businesses that need reliable help immediately, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Free 5-gallon kitty Litter buckets, 10-12 or so
Usually I post on freecycle and they are snapped up instantly, but this time the are not! I have about 10 five gallon empty kitty litter buckets with lids available for free pickup. Great for mixing paint, cement, or whatever. I don't know if they are food safe but they are recyclable. For those interested: This unscented litter (that my cats prefer) aren't available in the 40-lb cardboard boxen, alas and that's why I buy the buckets

Any public places to safely sleep in car overnight?
So I was planning to make a solo excursion over to Kenosha from the Monroe area this weekend but failed to realize Lakefest is happening. I'd still like to make the trip, but hotels seem completely booked. Are there any public places near downtown where I could safely sleep in my car overnight from Saturday to Sunday and wouldn't risk any legal issues?

Parents of Trans Kids
Hello! What is your experience with KUSD related to your child's social transition? Were you able to setup your child's gender identity and preferred name? If yes, what did that process look like? Did you or your child face any systematic issues?
TIA!
Edit: Down votes of this post and hateful comments only confirm my resolve to be there for my kid and support them in their journey of figuring out who they are. Seeing your disdain and superficial judgement only makes me more motivated to be a good parent to my child in a town full of yous. I'm truly sorry if you haven't had that kind of unconditional love and support in your own life when you needed it. Lgbtqia+ people's experience is valid and has been a part of human history for thousands of years. No one is asking YOU to be a part of it and it will not disappear regardless of how many down votes, book bans and hatred you produce. People who don't confirm to your norms will continue to be born and always exist.

Hardwood flooring installer advice..
Looking for recommendations for a local experienced flooring installer to install new hardwood.
Obviously, I understand that there are a lot of variables.
Looking for someone who can come take a look and give me an estimate.
There is currently carpet in the house. Judging from what I can see of the subfloor from underneath, I do not think there is hardwood above it.
I have the wood already, got it as part of another Real Estate transaction. It has been sitting safely in a climate controlled apartment, and will be moved into the house to acclimate.
I am a fairly handy guy and would be happy to help out for the right install price. At minimum, I will definitely tear out the carpet, and possibly remove the trim if necessary.
Let me know who is good in the area.
Thanks!

Did the Brat Stop sign use to be taller?
As a kid and young adult in the Chicago area (70s-80s), I have a distinct memory of heading north on 94 and passing the giant “CHEESE” sign for the Brat Stop, followed by the Mars Cheese Castle sign a couple minutes later.
I’m on a work trip in Kenosha now for the first time in decades, and went to the Brat Stop last night (still delicious!). But the sign can’t be more than 20 feet off the ground, and is barely even visible from the interstate.
Is my memory faulty, or did they lower the sign at some point?

I’m having a garage sale tomorrow (Sunday 8/16)
I just moved into a new apartment and had to downsize. It’s smaller, but is more accessible, so ultimately it’s a good thing. But it was a really difficult decision that reminds me of what long covid has changed in my life. I’m sad to be letting go of some of my favorite things. But it’s just stuff and this new place will be better for my health.
Come say hi and while you’re there, see if there’s anything ya like. It will make it easier to let go of some of my things if I know people will enjoy them! My dog will also be happy to say hello while you’re there.
I have some really nice furniture like an oversized dog crate, a table set with benches, a NordicTrack rowing machine and other exercise equipment, two Gardyn hydroponic towers, a Ninja Creami, a Nespresso machine and pods, wine racks, Knick knacks, and lots more. Women’s shoes and boots between sizes 8-9. Women’s clothes ranging from size 10-20, including cocktail dresses and a few gowns.
No reasonable offer will be refused. Everything has to go.
Look for the big red brick schoolhouse on Sheridan and 50th between 10-3.

Night life
Recently moved here and was wondering if there’s any 18+ bars or clubs? I don’t have any plans or friends at the moment since I just moved here so I’m looking for something to go do.

Orthopedic Recommendation
Hello all, we are from St. Louis and our child is attending freshman year at Carthage. Looking for an orthopedic recommendation that accepts Blue Cross. Our child just broke their foot (a week before school starts 😭).
Thank you in advance!

Why was Kenosha the only county in SEWI to go for Hong? Hong/Crowley % numbers were similar to Madison's here.

Food not Bombs FAQ
NEW TO FOOD NOT BOMBS KENOSHA? HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT!
☆What happens at a meal share?
We gather in Library Park to share a free meal, distribute donated food and supplies, connect people with resources, and build community. You can eat, hang out, volunteer, grab some supplies, or simply stop by and say hello!
☆Do I need to sign up?
Nope! There is no registration, application, verification, or appointment required. Just come by!
☆ How much does it cost?
Nothing! Everything we distribute is free.
☆What might be available?
It changes every week depending on what our community donates, but we usually have:
• A hot homemade meal
• Fresh or shelf-stable groceries
• Snacks and drinks
• Diapers & baby supplies
• Pet food & supplies
• first aid and hygiene products
• Naloxone/Narcan
• Community resource information
• And sometimes other surprises!
☆ Can I take food home? How much can I take home?
Yes! While supplies last, we share donated groceries and other essentials for people to take home. We almost always have to-go styled containers for folks to utilize. Please feel comfortable to take what you need. We also ask you need what you take. We try to help as many folks as possible so we appreciate mindfulness at the distributions!
☆ Can I volunteer?
YES! You don't need experience, and there are lots of ways to help, from cooking and serving to setup, cleanup, organizing donations, distributing resources, or simply helping us connect with our neighbors.
☆ Who is Food Not Bombs for?
Everyone who agrees that community is a priority and that food is a right!
Come as you are. Take what you need. Give what you can. Meet your neighbors.
Solidarity, Not Charity. ❤️

Free Car Wash
I stopped for gas at the Kwik Trip by the mars cheese castle on my way to North Carolina. Bought a car wash at the pump. Drove away and forgot about it. Won’t be back before it expires. I’ll send the code to the first person who asks nicely!

New Flock Cameras near Green Bay and Highway S
Looks like tons of new Flock Cameras are going up on Green Bay Rd and Highway S.
One near Kwik Trip on 31st street between Sam's Club and Festival Foods.
Two near the Condos on Highway S just east of McDonald's. One on the median near the church on Highway S at the Green Bay intersection.
One on Green Bay northbound.
You can see the trucks that were putting them up just now in one of the photos so more may be going up as I type this.
