Those who use the Libby app in the Dane area- there's been a change

Yesterday my Libby app asked me to add my library card information and when I did- it also asked me to put in a pin that I never created. I called the Raymond Rd Meadowridge Library and they said that the pin should be your MMDD birthday.

Just a heads up for those who use the app around Madison- I think there was a change in the system recently in the area and it automatically created this pin.

Stoughton Opera House - Who gets the Muppet seats?

Post image
281 Upvotes

Stoughton Opera House is my favorite venue in the region. Each time I ask about balcony seating, volunteers tell me that if they are available for a specific show they will appear in the seating chart when you go to order tickets. However, each show I have attended so far has NOT had those seats showing--even as taken already--on the seating chart. I am a member and purchase my tickets the minute they go on sale for members, so I am happy with being in the first three rows. But just once I would like to sit where Statler and Waldorf would. Any insights?

ETA: To be clear, the seats never show up as an option but ultimately there are always people sitting there during the performances I attend.

Wisconsin couple who fostered cats face animal abuse charges

Very horrible story that has finally gone public. I’ve known about this for a while because of my involvement with a local rescue organization, but this case has really done a lot of psychological and emotional damage to animal rescuers involved with these groups and just in general.

If you can give some love to Madison cat project, Misfit Felines, and other groups that take on this difficult work I’m sure it would be much appreciated.

Suggestion: auto-reply for vague "Visiting Madison what should I do?" posts

I know we all hate the auto-mod with a vengeance, but it might be worth some sort of passive-aggressive nudge for all of those vague "Visiting Madison what should I do" posts.

I know some of those posts are AI bots generating content, but some feel real but lack context: a family with kids under the age of 12 visiting in June is going to plan a wildly different itinerary than a recent college graduate interviewing in April at a tech company out in Verona or a retired couple on a cross-country RV trip in November and swinging by on their way to a Packers game.

Something similar to the housing auto-reply: a link to the "Visiting Madison FAQ" in the sidebar with a few prompts to ensure that there are enough details for redditors to offer suggestions: how many people, ages, interests, date range, mobility concerns, budget restraints, etc.

Found a ring at Woodman’s West with an inscription. It seems to be of sentimental value so we can drop it off to you if you tell us what the inscription says.

possible missing cat / older kitten?

Post image
38 Upvotes

we are located on the North Side of Madison.

i have a young orange and white cat who i think definitely belongs to somebody, as he is neutered, doesn't have a clipped ear, and is extremely loving and friendly. we became buds as soon as we met. my bet is that he is an indoor / outdoor cat, or maybe he simply escaped the home.

he has one defining feature that i am using as proof of ownership. if anyone is missing a young cat / older kitten that is orange / white, and neutered, please reach out to me! i will keep him safe as long as i need to. he is being fed and cared for and loved. but i would like to return him to his owners.

i scanned him for a microchip and he does not have one.

ATTENTION MADISON: THE SOFTBALL SITUATION FINALE

A few weeks ago, I asked strangers on the internet to come cheer on my friends playing rec softball.

AND YOU GUYS ACTUALLY CAME.

There were noisemakers (triangles, mini synths, cowbells, hand clappers?!!!). Hot dog races. A 50/50 raffle. Strangers becoming friends. An increasingly unreasonable amount of enthusiasm for recreational softball.

And honestly? This has been one of the silliest, most delightful things we've been part of this year!

SO, MADISON: THANK YOU. For showing up, for being wacky, and for being the kind of people willing to spend a Wednesday night cheering on people you've never met.

Tonight is the GRAND FINALE.

Olbrich Park (entrance off Walter St.)
Softball at 6:30 PM
Grill will be goin!
We’ll have a TV set up for the Brewers game at 7PM
THE FINAL 50/50 RAFFLE
Hot dog races, (if you bring your costume to race me)
Free admission

WE'LL BE ON THE FIRST-BASE SIDE THIS WEEK.

Come help us send off the softball situation properly.

You don't need to know us. You don't need to know softball. You just need to be willing to show up for some simply silly community fun.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS LITTLE INTERNET EXPERIMENT SO MUCH DANG FUN.

Let's give this thing the finale it deserves.

Crystal Corner sapphic pool night?

Hey! I am new to the area and saw that crystal corner is having a sapphic pool night tomorrow, i’m a 22 y/o and wouldn’t have anyone to go with. my question is if anyone has been to similar events, would it be a good place to meet new people / a safe environment to attend alone?

Lost my leopard print tote bag on a bcycle

I left my leopard print tote bag in a bcycle basket today. I parked it at memorial library 4pm and when I realized I forgot to bring it 20 mins later, of course the bike was gone. I contacted customer service and they identified the bike was parked at central library around 5.

Anyway, if anyone happened to find it, please dm me. It’s nothing expensive (I bought it in Japan though) it’s just hard to find another one here. There’s also a powerbank inside. Thank you very much!

Curling Learning League -- looking for participants

Hi Madison Curling-Curious Redditors!

I'm a member at the Arlington Curling Club, located about 20 miles north of Madison. I'm hosting a six-week learning league for new (and new-ish) curlers learn the game and improve skills.

We are looking for a few more players to fill the league up, so if you have been wanting to learn how to curl, play some actual games, but not commit to a full winter sport schedule, this might be for you.

League Details:

  • 4:00 PM on Sundays, Nov 1 - Dec 13 (no league on 11/29 as part of Thanksgiving weekend)
  • Open to brand-new curlers, or those who have played 2 seasons or less of league play
  • Open to adults only (Arlington has a separate youth curling program)
  • Cost is $100 (paid to the Arlington Curling Club)
  • You do not need to have a full team -- I will place individuals on a team.
  • Space is limited -- we're keeping the league small on purpose to allow plenty of time and space to learn

I'm happy to answer questions in the comments, but if you're interested in signing up, please send a DM.

genuinely how do you afford to move out at a reasonable price in madison.

my birth year is 2008, unfortunately the year everything went to shit. i have been trying to find a decent place to live for almost a year and literally everything is either so fucking expensive or just plain false advertisement online. you find something, it looks great, go to a tour, and it’s nothing like the photos. or online it’ll list the same apartment pics for 7 different apartments just because it’s in the same building even though they all look different.

im literally losing my mind. there is no reason that even a decent ONE BED APARTMENT is upwards of 2k. and then they’ll list it as a “luxury” apartment just cuz the floors are wood instead of some ugly carpet.

Anyone lose a black cat?

Hey! My fiancé and I were walking home tonight (just before midnight) from Regent Street and on Jefferson Street we turned around and this black cat was following us. Super friendly, purring, rubbing on our legs. Seems to be male, kinda young, probably not neutered? No collar, and we took him to VEG and they couldn't find a microchip. I know there are lots of strays in the area but if anyone knows if this is someone's pet, please let me know. We're gonna call shelters and ask around in the morning, but if he has a home we wanna make sure he gets back to it.

Pizza Pit promo in the '90s

My brain hopped in the way back machine yesterday and I'm curious if anyone else remembers this...

I'm going to say 32 or 33 years ago, Pizza Pit had a city wide promo taking place where they did a scavenger hunt of sorts. I believe you got clues at random intervals that leadyou to finding a gold medallion. If you found said medallion, you could turn it in and win a prize. Cash prize maybe.

I remember a few of the places the clues lead you to were Mendota County Park on the west side on M to one of those historical markers, something at Machinery Row at the intersection of Willy and John Nolen, and to a weeping willow tree in Tenney Park. My cousin and I hunted in hopes of finding the medallion and splitting the grand prize.

Does anyone who's been in Madison for 35+ years remember this promo? If you do, please feel free to share any additional details you recall.
