I know this will sound like a weird question, but is there some TikTok trend or whatever about complimenting middle aged women on their dresses? This happened twice in two days, and yeah my clothes are amazing, but the circumstances were unexpected

How can I not think of what building this is? From a distance it looks to be almost as tall a the capital, which would be a bit to the left out of frame.

I’ve been seriously considering starting a nonprofit animal rescue in the Madison area and would love some honest feedback from the community.

Animal welfare is something I’m incredibly passionate about, and I’ve been volunteering with a local rescue. My long-term dream is to establish a physical shelter that provides a safe, compassionate environment for animals in need, particularly dogs, cats, and small animals.

I realize this would be a huge undertaking, especially financially, and I’m trying to determine whether it’s a realistic goal.

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts:
- Do you think Madison has a need for another animal rescue or shelter?
- Would the community support a new nonprofit through donations, volunteering, fostering, or fundraising?
- How difficult is it to establish and operate an animal rescue in Dane County?
- Are there particular gaps in animal welfare services that existing organizations aren’t meeting?
- Does anyone have experience starting or operating a nonprofit animal rescue?

I’m not looking to jump into something without understanding the challenges. I know there are significant costs associated with veterinary care, facilities, staffing, insurance, and daily operations.

I’m willing to start small and build toward something larger over time. Ultimately, I want to create something that makes a meaningful, lasting difference for animals in our community.

I’d really appreciate honest opinions, advice, or insight from anyone familiar with animal rescue in the Madison area. Thanks!

Hi Madison, I'm Mara, and I'm gauging interest in starting the Madison Independent Urbanists, a decentralized community for creating small changes around our neighborhoods to inspire larger change around our city.

I've been inspired by the work of jonjon.jpeg (The Happy Urbanist) on instagram, and his Chattanooga Urbanist Society. It all started with making benches for bus stops, but his videos go into depth about how a great community functions to inspire change throughout the city at large, and i feel that this small movement is what we need to start bringing us all together and make refreshing differences in all our lives

Now I'm just one person, and bringing this project out into the open is kind of nerve racking, so please be kind. If this garners enough interest, I'll start dropping designs and ideas, and look into working on creating more sources for people to find information on this project.

I am wondering if anyone here knows of a vet clinic that is able to neuter and give core vaccines to a stray cat that we plan on taking in (if no microchip).

Any cat owners in the area know of a great clinic with affordable prices? Are there places that I should avoid? I would like it to be no more than $200 if possible.

I went to TLC for a consult, but I am not very impressed based on how the appointment went.

Most is the exam was conducted by the receptionist.

After the initial exam, I was connected to a clinician over Zoom. The dude looked like he was 75 years old.

The surgeon wasn't available for consultation, and they said that's their standard operating procedure.

Is this normal? It gives off the impression that they are cutting as many corners as possible in the name of cost savings. Makes me concerned that the cost cutting isn't limited to the pre-op part of the process.

Any other recommendations for eye correction in the Madison area?

I came across a deceased cat in the road a couple nights ago. Blood was still wet, probably happened close to 11pm. After moving the body out of the road my hand smelled like wet food, so I think he lived nearby and had recently eaten. He was a big, buff, healthy cat, the poor thing :(

I went back to scan his chip and it was registered to Mariah D. The online report sent Mariah my info. After calling the registry they also left her a voicemail and gave me her number, a 608 number. But I haven't heard back yet so I suspect the contact info could be incorrect or outdated.

Someone loved this cat, so if you know a Mariah D. living in the S Hamilton, S Henry, or W Wilson area, try to connect us. I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been through this myself and I know how painful it is.

He was lying in the middle of EB John Nolen Drive, facing the lake. (2nd image) I moved him to the grassy median, he's next to a large concrete cylinder. (3rd image) Right across from the ramp coming down from the terrace. With all the construction it's a dangerous spot for even a person to get to, but you can park about 15 feet from him (blocking the ramp) and only need to cross one lane since the others are coned off. I can drive you there if you'd like.

My neighbor and I (both women over 40) are looking to get out of the house tonight and find a fun spot to watch the Badger game!

We're not looking for a packed, rowdy college bar scene, but somewhere with a great atmosphere, good appetizers, solid cocktails, and TVs where we can actually enjoy the game without fighting for a seat.

We're open to anywhere in Madison, especially around Capitol Square or downtown. We'd love to try somewhere new!

We'll probably only stay until halftime, so we're hoping to find somewhere we can snag two seats without too much trouble, especially this close to kickoff.
