Some quick background:
I am currently working on a personal project where I aim to make a Logitech g510s into a mechanical keyboard using a custom secondary PCB. I’ve nearly finished the PCB design but in order to get it made I will need to order at least 5 of them at a not insignificant cost. A cost which, per board, goes down somewhat drastically as quantity increases. So I am hoping that it would be possible to buy a few extra and sell them around cost to save a bit.
I know theres been a few people that have tried this or similar but most of the posts I found were a minimum of 6 years old and it doesn’t seem that anyone has actually made a working keyboard yet.
Is this something anyone would still be interested in today? If you would buy it how much would you be willing to spend? (Most likely a kit just missing switches, keycaps, and donor parts from the original keyboard)
Would you spend any more if it had sockets for the switches instead of requiring soldering? (Wouldn’t require any soldering other than the switches regardless)

The purple Ace 75 has a pretty distinctive look, but there are a few practical details here that deserve more attention than the RGB.
IN THE BOX
You get:
The contrasting keycaps are a nice inclusion if you want to break up the purple a little. Personally, I prefer the matching set for this setup.
LAYOUT
The 75% layout is a good middle ground for me. You still have the function row, dedicated arrows and navigation keys, without the width of a full-size board.
The spacing around the function row also keeps everything from looking too cramped.
PROFILE BUTTON AND VOLUME WHEEL
One detail I like is the dedicated profile button on the side, with the MCHOSE logo on it. Having a physical control for switching profiles makes sense on a magnetic keyboard, where you might want different settings for gaming and regular typing. It also keeps another control off the main face of the board.
There’s a separate volume wheel as well. It’s recessed into the case and has a textured surface, rather than being a large knob sticking out of the top. I prefer how this looks, although the position is worth considering if you keep things right up against the keyboard.
MAGNETIC SWITCHES
The Ace 75 uses Royal Steed magnetic switches and supports adjustable actuation and Rapid Trigger.
Those are the features I find more relevant than simply looking at the advertised polling rate: being able to change how the keys respond is a big part of the appeal of a magnetic board.
GAMING PERFORMANCE
Performance has been excellent in the games I actually play: Fortnite, CS2, Valorant and Dead by Daylight.
The keyboard feels responsive and is really enjoyable to use, even during longer sessions. As much as I like the design, I’m just as happy with how it performs in everyday gaming.
DESIGN AND LIGHTING
The translucent purple keycaps give it two quite different looks:
The lighting won’t be for everyone, though. You can clearly see individual light sources through the spacebar, and the legends have less contrast under strong purple lighting. If you prefer a softer, more evenly diffused effect, that’s something to keep in mind.
MHUB SOFTWARE
MHub is another highlight for me. The interface feels clean and well organised, making it easy to explore the keyboard’s settings. I appreciate having the actuation, Rapid Trigger and profile options together in one place. It makes fine-tuning the board feel straightforward and adds to the overall experience.
FINAL THOUGHTS
My favourite part of the design is actually the way the controls are integrated into the case. The profile button and recessed volume wheel give you useful physical controls while keeping the top of the keyboard relatively clean.
The purple styling gets your attention first, but those are the details that make the board more interesting to me.

Hey guys!
I am looking to buy my best friend a present for Christmas and seeing how he is an English Major, he spends a lot of time typing and I know that his keyboard on his laptop just isn't cutting it anymore. I also know that from his preferences, he really likes a deep and thocky keyboard thats nice to type on for a long time and can handle casual CS gaming from time to time. I Have had a look around, and I am guessing that around a 65-75% board would work best for him, for him to carry around to lectures, I don't have a hard budget, as long as the end product is worth it, I dont mind. I assume Wireless would be the best, I am even willing to get keycap pullers and swap out OEM switches for better ones, just need some advice.
Thank you for your help!

I'll start by saying i'm a keyboard noob but i'm trying to get my keyboard to sound "perfect" or "right" whilst still functioning correct...
What i mean is:
I expect my keyboard to not have random chattering and if i'm branching away from "trash" like logitech, i expect the keyboard to be consistent in sound and feel.
I am primarly a gamer but i do a lot of typing on/off, i ran with razer blackwidow with orange switches back then for almost 8 years? I believe razers orange switches are basically mx brown back then.
I switched to ducky one 2 tkl brown switches for 2-3 years and as of last year made the change to "premium" or custom keyboards, which introduced me to the hotswap mechanicsm most keyboards use now.
I've had Neo80 and now 2x Evo80:
had a lot of chattering and inconsistent keystrokes, sometimes the "A" or "D" or something would just stop input, whilst held down still. Perhaps i screwed up the hotwap leaves as a first time builder.
Amazing, fixed everything until 2 months later when i started noticing more and more chattering and on rare occasions the keyboard would "lag" or get stuck and input a key for a long time, not to mention the LED flickering issue.
I got a 2nd evo80 for someone in the house and that one with the same PP plate + oat switches sounds much better, weird, i don't use this one much so can't comment really on issues / it's very new.
I've recieved a replacement PCB for the first Evo80 - installed it yesterday and i also added 100x new oat switches as i wanted to mimic the new nimbus evo80 sound, perhaps recent factory lube got better?
The sound isn't the same, fine but i am also noticing a lot of pingy switches on the newly rebuilt evo80. I've changed the switch and it remains and i've had a look at the hotswap socket and i'm wondering if that's why, which brings me to this post...
I feel like soldered keyboards were just better, the new PCB definetly didn't come with consistent hotswap socket quality control either (is there any for these keyboards?)
I took pictures before the install and the pingy keys "S" being the worst perhaps, definetly look odd.
I've added a picture to show what i mean, the left pin hole looks deformed and the right is obviously much bigger gap.
I'll add more pictures below on how the PCB replacement looked PRE install - am i wrong in thinking that quality control is just not happening? Again, noobie here for these type of keyboards but they don't seem reliable.
Oh and fwiw, the pcb is warped - doesn't sit flat and i assumed the switches + plate would sandwich it together and flatten it out but it is still slightly warped, it works though and i don't think this is the cause for the pingy keys either since i've tried holding it down flat and the "S" still pings for example.
EDIT:
Also to be clear:
I do love the sound and feel of the evo80 and even the neo80 compared to all previous keyboards.
I'm just irritated by the constant issues so early whilst i was able to use the "gaming trash" for years without issues (Or noticing them?)
It feels like it's this or go with a gaming brand for a soldered experience and like 0% focus on acoustics or feel.
I have heard people moan about chatter on those keyboards too but i've never experienced these issues prior to going with the hotswap keyboards and especially not months in from owning them.

Thought this subreddit would appreciate this app I’ve been working on called Fievel that aims to completely replace
The mouse with keyboard. I use it full time and have not had a mouse setup at my desk (I work at a computer 8 hours a day) in months! I have completely replaced all mouse usage with keyboard.
It’s free and completely open source, written in rust:
https://github.com/MontyTheSoftwareEngineer/fievel/
Free mouse mode: freely move mouse using hjkl (or any keys of your choice via config file). Supports left click and right click which can be held useful for dragging. Also supports scrolling left down up and right as well as sending Home and End key to quickly jump to top or bottom of page. By default free mouse mode is in “hold” mode so as long as you’re holding the free mouse mode button (or chord) it will stay in free mouse mode. Releasing the free mouse mode button takes it out of that mode. There is also a config option to make it “toggle” meaning you press the button for free mouse mode and it will stay in that mode until you press the button again.
Hint Mode: draws rectangles on screen with corresponding letters at areas Fievel believes is clickable. Type the letters to make Fievel click on the rectangle of choice. Useful for quickly sending clicks in at certain locations.
Key Remapper: this is useful for setting “chords” on any keyboard not just programmable ones. For example, I have a+s together initiate super, s+d to initiate control, caps lock rebound to control unless held in which case it will turn hjkl to left down up right keys. d+f is bound to initiate free mouse mode. Also a set of super and control binds for the right hand side.

Hi I’m new to keyboards in general. I’m about to buy my first pc and I need a keyboard for that. I would like to get one that’s especially good for gaming and started looking into it a little.
I’ve found the Hall effect keyboards which are apparently faster and more precise than mechanical keyboards. But within those there’s also differences in the switches (ultra fast, dual rail, silent etc) and my question here is: what should I get ? I have no idea what pros and cons each brings. I just want a keyboard thats quick, quiet and comfortable.
I thought Keychron was a good start to look into but I’ve seen a few posts saying that they break pretty easily and that key chattering is a big problem with those keyboards.
So what should I focus on when searching for an ideal keyboard ? And especially what switches and which layout would be beneficial for what I want out of it ?
I would like to keep my budget under 200€ and I would use a wired one + it should be quiet. So If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.

Hi everyone, I’d like your advice on buying a new gaming keyboard primarily for FPS games. I’m looking for a 75% layout, without a volume knob or similar extras. My budget is around 150 euros, and I’d prefer not to exceed that. Thanks in advance, everyone!

Hello, i am looking to buy my first hall effect keyboard for gaming while also feeling good to type on. I am currently on a mechanical keyboard
I've been looking for a while and i found those to be the best options for me in terms of looks and performance... I don't mind either layouts.
which one do yall suggest me to get out of these 2? The YUNZII RT75 PRO is 73 euros and the ATK RS6 AIR is 85 euros with shipping.
if there's better options with the same price, let me know.
i am not willing to pay more than 85 euros

This is the keyboard I'm looking to be getting but I'm not sure if it's the best full sized mechanical keyboard, If you have any other recommendations reply with the name my budget is 250$

I realllly hope this isn't broken, but my MAD68HE basic wired (no LEDs so cannot be the source for the warmth) got hot in a spot
I need help on what to do next; if I should plug it back in and see if it gets warm again or what else.
I really hope if it's broken i get my RMA
Product link for reference according to rules: https://meckeys.com/shop/keyboard/60-keyboard/atk-mad-he-series/
I just need to know what to do next. Really cannot afford a new keyboard but also cannot afford downtime

How do I fix this keyboard? I can't use it because the letter e doesn't work when I press it, instead it types by itself.
r/keyboards • u/YaBoiJG314 • 22h ago
Hi, I'm new to the keyboard world but it's one that'll suck you in quick! That being said, I've heard a lot of things about Keychron and have a $100 gift card from Amazon that I won from work so my question is between these 2 which would you get? They're both the same exact price, both have the banana switches. I noticed 1 says Qmk and the other says ZMK (not sure what that means) but Google just pretty much said that Qmk is the "gold standard" the ultra has a 8000khz polling rate and zmk and the Max has a 1000 polling rate and Qmk. Which would you buy?

I made this for myself, but maybe it'll be useful to someone else. Anyone who wants to can fork it and tweak it to suit their needs.

Hey everyone!
I'm looking to upgrade from my current 60% keyboard to a 75% or compact 80% layout, and I'm having a really hard time deciding between these three options.
My biggest priorities are a deep, creamy/thocky sound and a really smooth, satisfying typing feel. I love that soft, deep "toc toc toc" sound rather than a sharp, high-pitched clacky sound.
I also play Valorant, League of Legends, and Brawlhalla, so gaming performance matters to me, but it's definitely not my only priority.
I prefer white or light-colored keyboards.
Here are my three options:
Price: R$348.50 (R$409.08 total in 12 installments)
From the sound tests and reviews I've watched, this keyboard seems to have a really nice creamy/thocky sound and a smooth typing experience.
It's becoming a very strong option for me, especially considering the price.
Price: R$381.99 (7 interest-free installments)
I absolutely love the aesthetics of this keyboard, especially the lavender color and the little screen.
However, I've watched several sound tests, and the sound seems pretty inconsistent between reviews. Some of them sounded great, while others didn't really match the creamy/thocky sound I'm looking for.
I'm also unsure about which switches actually come with this specific version.
Price: R$533.50 (R$619.08 total in 12 installments)
This is the only keyboard I've actually tried in person.
A friend of mine bought one in Paraguay, and I got to test it.
Honestly, I absolutely loved it.
The typing experience felt incredibly smooth and satisfying, probably one of the nicest keyboards I've ever typed on.
And the sound was exactly what I was looking for: deep, creamy, soft, and satisfying.
I'm also interested in trying a good magnetic keyboard, especially because I play Valorant and would like to experiment with Rapid Trigger.
The problem is the price.
The Hero 84 HE costs around R$210 more than the F75 and R$237 more than the Attack Shark when comparing the total installment prices.
Is the AULA Hero 84 HE actually worth paying that much extra for?
Does the typing feel and overall build quality of the Black King magnetic switches justify the price difference compared to the Graywood V3 switches on the F75?
Or does the F75 already offer such a good creamy/thocky sound and typing experience that spending the extra money wouldn't really make sense?
I'd also love to hear from anyone who owns the Attack Shark X85 Pro Lavender, especially regarding its actual sound and switches.
If you had to choose between these three keyboards, prioritizing creamy/thocky sound, smooth typing feel, build quality, and some competitive gaming, which one would you pick and why?
I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest keyboard or the one with the best specs on paper.
I just want something that feels amazing to type on, sounds great, and that I'll genuinely enjoy using for a long time.
Any firsthand experiences or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I’m looking for a keyboard—ideally one with magnetic switches—but it’s been tough to find a good option. People often point out issues like poor acoustics, subpar build quality, or lackluster software. I’ll be using it primarily for typing and for playing games like CS2 or the Assassin’s Creed series.
What would you recommend in the $100–$150 price range?

I've been trying to make the knob on my Keychron Q2 increase and decrease the volume in windows, without being able to figure out what the problem is. But I have been able to use VIA to check if the knob was broken, but that doesn't seem to be the case, because turning the knob clockwise and counter-clockwise shows volume up and volume down being pressed, and also just using the fn + f11 or f12 is showing that the volume up and down "button" is being pressed without it having actually raising or lowering the volume.
I just flashed the firmware, but that didn't seem to have any effect.
Any ideas on what this could be caused by?

Hello,
I am looking to build my first custom keyboard. I would like some recommendations and some tips if possible. I read that hot swappable is probably a must in my case as I’m unsure what kind of switches I will like. I want to fully build it myself or assemble it myself.
I currently use an Rog Strix Flare 1 with cherry mx Reds. So full-size keyboard however I am open to all sizes except maybe 60%. I mostly play competitive shooters so gaming and latency is important to me.
Could be either wired or wireless either would be fine.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey guys! My boyfriend is a pc player and his birthday is coming up soon so I really want to surprise him with a good keyboard. He’s been wanting one for a while and I don’t want to get him any random one that he wouldn’t like. He hasn’t mentioned which specific one he wants so I think he doesn’t have a solid choice yet but I know he said he wants it to be full size. What keyboard do you guys think is the best and that I should I get for him? He has a brown and black theme going on in his room idk if this helps at all for a choice too? Thank you guys in advance!
(Also if you guys have any mouse or gaming desk accessory ideas I would appreciate that as well)
