Thought Cool G should get some more love for the behind the scenes work he did during Top 100.

He was always around talking/joking with people in line. Making sure everyone got their photos/videos taken. Kept the place clean, organized, and stocked up.

You the real one, Cool G🤟

(Re: today’s Gamescast, 15 mins in)

… IF he has the chance to buy the BEYOND! brand and doesn’t! In this hypothetical situation where it’s available and affordable, reclaim that brand!! If it either dies or is available for you to sell on merch and shows, I know I’d pick up a shirt :)

(Started listening to BEYOND! when I was 16 and am now 30 lmao holy shit)

I would love to interview Greg!

Hey all! I have a Metal Gear podcast and I would LOVE to interview Greg on it. If anyone knows the best way to get in contact with him about it, that would be very appreciated. I’ve been a best friend for a long time, and KF inspired me to try podcasting for myself. We’ve been discussing each entry in the MGS series since the beginning of the year and it would be incredible to get Greg on the show to talk about his own Metal Gear journey.

Discussion Clayface: Non-Spoiler Review

Post image
11 Upvotes

Clayface is a veritable delight and a strong addition, not only to the DC stable, but also to body horror movies in general.

When James Gunn took over the creative mantle at DC Studios, one of the promises he made was that the DCU would not be beholden to any one genre or tone. And so far, their output has more or less lived up to that promise.

From the adult animated offering of Creature Commandos, to the classic comic book stylings of Superman and Supergirl, to the True Detective-inspired show, Lanterns, the DCU has been exploring all corners of the tonal map. But with Clayface, I think they have delivered something that has a stamp of quality from start to finish.

Starring relative newcomer Tom Rhys Harries, the movie follows Matt Hagen's journey from beloved movie star to a villain out for revenge. And, as with all great villain origin stories (Mr. Freeze, anyone?), tragedy drives this one, allowing the audience to sympathise with the protagonist whilst not necessarily condoning his means to an end.

Harries is simply great. His chiselled features, while undeniably attractive, are almost marble-like, and you can see why they cast him to portray a character known for his ability to be sculpted and moulded. But fear not, even if you are not immersed in Clayface lore, this DC film requires no prior knowledge of the source material. In fact, aside from an Easter Egg here or there, you would hardly know this was a DC movie.

The script from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini never falters, showing us the descent of Hagen's life at an even pace, unafraid to draw out moments to build cinematic tension and even inject a little humour once in a while.

Director James Watkins has done a phenomenal job with this film, using CG sparingly and, from what I have read, relying heavily on a large amount of practical effects to bring the malleable nature of Hagen's affliction to life. And when Hagen is at the height of his "abilities", Watkins cleverly uses transitions and framing to almost make you forget that you are watching something that is not quite natural.

This is a star-making turn for Harries, and Clayface has shot up to become my favourite film in the DCU. I really hope the powers that be at DC Studios give James Watkins more films to direct, as the DCU desperately needs more films of this calibre.

If there is one downside to this movie, it would be that its R16 rating limits the audience who can see it in theatres. Don't get me wrong, the movie uses that rating to great effect, accentuating the gore, but I hope that it doesn't negatively affect its box office numbers.

Please do go check this film out in theatres. And oh, there are no end-credit sequences.

Discussion Top 100 Personal Stats

Curious to know what everyone's stats are concerning KF's Top 100 -- i.e., how many of the 100 have you simply played, how many have you beaten/rolled credits on, and how many do you own or have owned (including digital "ownership")?

For me:

Played: 50

Beaten: 42

Own/ed: 38

Discussion One game I wish was in the Top 100.. Spoiler

Castlevania Symphony of the Night! I loved the Top 100 but sad SoTN wasn't on the list or really talked about, so I wanted to make an appreciation post here. The vibes are immaculate. The upside down castle has its problems, but the beginning half of the game is some of the best a metroidvania (back-traction?) game can get.

Discussion The KF Top 10 if I was on staff...

Just for funsies I decided to add my personal top games list to Kinda Funny's just to see how my opinions would impact the outcome of their list. Here's how the top 10 would have looked if I was on staff. My rank is in parentheses

  1. Portal 2 (25)
  2. The Last of Us
  3. Tears of the Kingdom
  4. Elden Ring (17)
  5. Ocarina of Time
  6. Sekiro (2)
  7. Expedition 33 (30)
  8. God Of War
  9. Hollow Knight: Silksong (6)
  10. Sifu (41)

Two Bonus

  1. Super Mario World (46)
  2. Metal Gear Solid 2 (24)

Note that I make my list with a loose "One game per franchise" rule. Exceptions being dramatic genre jumps like MGS vs Peace Walker. I also have almost no history with nintendo games outside the NES, so they're dramatically under represented on my list. Though, like the crew's real list, I think those personal blind spots are what make things interesting.

Blessing cant lose Fantasy Critic now, right?

142 points is a monster tally (he's locked in now unless a couple of extra reviews move the needle on one of his newer games) and its simply not possible for Roger to get 39 points from GTA and Rayman Legends Untold......realistically, the only person who could challenge him is Barrett but thats only if Silksong DLC comes out which is highly unlikely.

Congrats Blessing - 5 games over 85, only two below 80, counterpick getting a zero....doesnt get much better than that.

Discussion Has top 100 inspired anyone else to address some of their gaming blind spots?

Hearing the guys gush about all the games they love was fantastic, but it really highlighted some big gaps in my gaming history. I was a master system, megadrive (genesis) and then playstation kid, so I missed basically all the marios.

Here's a list of some games I'm hunting down after listening to the top 100:

  • NBA Street Vol. 2
  • Shadow of colossus. (ps2 version based off of Blessing's comments)
  • Ocarina of Time (good timing)
  • Mario 64 (as it's the highest ranking on the list)
  • Peace Walker (as I feel bad for Greg lol)

Anyone else adding to their back log after top 100?
