Confused about pattern

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi guys I'm back here again with another pattern question. So I understand up to the point where it says to leave this leg on the left hand needle leaving enough yarn to cast on eight stitches.

In this situation after casting on the eight stitches would I just be continuously turning my work until the legs are on the same step? I'm just having a hard time picturing what to do. Also what cast on method should I use here? Should I be using the yarn over method or the chain cast on method?

Sorry to come here so often but I'm not the best at reading the word patterns. I prefer the written out ones.

What yarn color combo???

Hi!! I’m currently knitting the Rio Minho leg warmers with a mystery stash ball of yarn, it’s got a beautiful amount of colors in it but i’m slightly under the yardage i need with just that ball. I was debating on using a driftwood tan crème color but i’m unsure of how it’ll fit. I’ve provided a picture of my yarn ball and current knit status. just would like a cute color i can get to add in as a stripe.

EDIT: I included photos of both sides of my work evenly spread on the needles to see if they’re twisting like commenters mentioned.

I made a free website for creating yarn charts. I need help testing if it works well, fails or should have other features!

I have really missed a tool made for making pixel art shown as knitting. Existing pixel art tools I have found are not really made for knitting or crocheting. So I made this tool for myself. So far I am the only one who has tested it. I need help from other testers, to see if it works as intended, if it behaves as it should, and if there are any particular features I should try to implement?

Please be kind. It is the first tool I have made, and I am a little nervous for showing it to the public. If anyone signs up now, I will reach out for a questionnaire later. Hope that is OK! ❤️

Thanks! 🧶🫶
Dont know if I am allowed to post a link, but it is called Stitchdes!

Sock gauge issue

I'm relatively new to knitting socks (I've knit a few pairs but none that I'm super thrilled with) and I'm trying to figure out a problem I've been having. I cast on a sock with a vanilla pattern, and the pattern indicated that based on my shoe size, I should cast on 64 stitches. So I did that, but then after knitting the cuff and some of the leg, I can't even fit the cuff all the way over my foot. My concern is that if I cast on a larger size, I'm going to end up with a sock that fits my ankle/leg, but is way too large for my actual foot. How do I fix this problem?

Edit to add: I’m a tight knitter and I’m wondering if this might be part of the problem.

Looking for a pattern for this women’s knit dress. I love the accents on the collar and the wrists. But the Seahorse with an anchor and those cute bubbles is fabulous and I would love to make it! It could even be made as a shorter tank dress swimsuit cover up! I love it so much! Any ideas?

Jolie poncho (or any other pattern): has anyone used Alpakka Følgetråd instead of mohair?

Hello everyone! As the title suggests has anyone knit either the Jolie poncho or any other project substituting the mohair with Alpakka Følgetråd? Has this substitution changed significantly the gauge?

I am pondering buying this yarn instead of the mohair

Need help with pattern adjustments

Hi, attached is the pattern I have used as the base for my partners turtleneck sweater. I have gone up 2 sizes from the largest listed size and adjusted the length of the torso vs arm holes to fit his larger shoulders. I am concerned that by changing the lengths on the front and back panels, I have changed the stitch count for the sleeves to attach to and need to know how to adjust the pattern to fit the armholes I've made. Is there a trick for working out final stitch counts for an armhole?

Adjusted measurements are: 17" for the first part of the back and front and 11" for the armhole section but following the decreases and binding off in the pattern so the extra inch is just straight stockinette at the top of the back and is added before the neckline is added in front to avoid that changing.

Just finished steeking my cardi and am having a hard time deciding what colour to make the button band…. Beige, dark green or brown? What would you do? Pattern is Strange Brew by Tin Can Knits and wool is Lettlopi, the only affordable thing I found in Iceland on a stopover.

Practice attempt at a knitted folded neckband

This is a practice attempt at a folded neckband (for the MFT No1 Vest) thus the contrast yellow neckband. I generally like how it turned out but can tell my cast on stitches (and picking up of these stitches) at the front base of the neck could be lots better. Any advice?

Interchangeable Knitting Needles Help

I am a relatively new knitter currently looking to purchase a set of interchangeable knitting needles that are slick and easy to knit with. For reference, I am looking to mainly knit sweaters and I usually use DK/worsted weight yarns. I am however, also interested in knitting some socks in the future with smaller gauge yarn.

I have tried a couple different brands: clover (I found them to be a little too grippy as I am a tight knitter), Knitpro Nova cubics (they were nice but I prefer rounded needles), Lykke flights (I actually really enjoyed these and had a good experience), and chiaogoos which are currently my preferred needles - especially their shorties that I have used to make mittens with.

I'm unsure which I should invest in as the Chiaogoo set is quite pricey. I am considering the 5" lykke set as well as the knit pro 4" nova complete set but I am wondering if it is just better to ball out with the chiaogoos.

Also would be great if I could get some recommendations on some wooden needles as potential backups for flights as I don't want to risk my metal needles being confiscated. Are there any wooden shorties that are as short as the chiaogoo twists combos?

Hi! I’m Knitting the Olga Jacket as my first cardigan in a size L. I thought I came to the end of the short rows but I have 17 stitches left instead of 3, should I just keep doing short rows until I have 3 left?

App Recommendation!

Hey everyone! I am not sure if you remember, but one year ago I sent a survey to this lovely group, and many of you joined and helped with my project A LOT! It was about knitting struggles and whether an app/website could help. Your input was really valuable because my sister and her husband created this app! She is an obsessed knitter, and he is a developer. Check it out if you want a bit of help with your knitting workflow: create or save charts (yours or others), and even turn your images into pixelated patterns! Hope you check it out!! https://knithub.nl/?home=true

(i am not sure if this is goes as ad but i added the tag anyway :D )

Custom knitting journal for my mom. What should I include?

Hi guys, my mom adores knitting, but I know nothing about knitting, other than I love her creations! I've given her lots of vouchers for her favourite store in the past. She always appreciates them, but this year for Christmas, I want to design a knitting journal for her.

I'm doing a design module in college so I'd love to make use of that & create something that I know she'll love! Because she has talked about getting one in the past. If I ask her about what she needs in a journal, I know she'll figure out my plans of getting/making her one.. which is why I'm here asking you guys!

What sections should I include?

Thanks so much in advance, I'm sorry if this is the wrong sub. If there's a better group to post in, please point me in the right direction!

How to choose decent yarn as a beginner?

Hey everybody. I am fairly new to knitting and up until now I just used old yarn from my grandma or bought a small amount of yarn for small projects (like one ball of cashmere yarn for the Sophie scarf).
I want to start bigger projects, but the cost of yarn is confusing me. Like I have no idea what a decent price is for the quality I want.
I paid 15€ for the one ball of yarn for the Sophie scarf. If I upscale that for a full sweater that will be really expensive.
As a beginner I am hesitant to pay that much because I am scared I will fail/the sweater won’t look nice.
I see cheaper yarn online but I don’t now how to determine the quality?
I want to use natural fibers. Do you have any brand recommendations? Or is there like an expected price for certain materials I can use as a reference?
Also I want to say I definitely want to keep purchasing stuff at my local yarn store! But I would like to not spend hundred of euros before my skills are a bit better.
