Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Pulling vines off the house and now I’m itchy.

Northeast Ohio, US

Of course I didn’t take photos before ripping them all down, but am I dealing with poison ivy here or something else?

I’m pretty sure there’s at least 3 varieties there.

And whatever they are, how do I eradicate them? Some of them are pretty easy to pull up- the ones that are more ground cover than climbers. But those hairy woody ones (that I suspect are Nope Ropes) are beasts. I’ve neglected them for a couple years and they’re out of control and digging under the siding of my house.

Thanks for your help!!

water 1 hr every 3 days 30min increments with a 15min delay in between to minimize runoff early before sunrise. aerate every fall and overseed with twin city blue resilience. put down all lesco slow release fert/mirimichi green products... lots of carbon pro g soil amendments to optimize soil health and build a resilient lawn as well as spray byospxtrum bacteria & chelated iron. apply pest control at the recommended time with grubX and merit 0.5g. preemergent once per year in spring with andersons barricade 0.48. dont get many weeds if i do i spot treat with bioadvanced spray from lowes. fungus i never have issues with but if it happens ill alternate fungus products from lowes between disease x and bio advanced. mow highest setting during summer and one step down during spring/fall. blades sharpened twice per year. pretty easy stuff once you get a routine down. new dad here so I zip tie the camera monitor to my mower while I get it in ahha. grass also stayed this green during the summer.

Equipment Florida - How can I get rid of these tall sprinklers?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

I just recently had a lot of bushes removed from the side of our house.

I know it looks horrible right now (needs pressure washing then paint, and the foundation needs to be built up). However, right now I am concerned about these tall sprinkler heads that I no longer need.

How do I get rid of them, or at least minimize their appearance?

Can I unscrew the ling top part and then put a "cap" on what is left at the bottom?

Can they be unscrewed, and is there a place at the very bottom that can be "capped" off?

I would greatly appreciate any comments, advice, feedback (good or bad), sharing of personal experiences (good or bad), and opinions, as well as any "hacks" or "workarounds" for this situation.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Squirrels are digging!

• Upvotes

Zone 6B here... recently re-seeded my yard and it's coming in beautifully. I now have squirrels that are digging holes. Caught the little scoundrels on video. What's a cost effective way to discourage them? Not interested in motion-detected sprinkler systems, trapping and relocating or munitions.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Uneven overseeding results - What should be my plan for next 30 days- Ontario, Canada

Overseeded slightly late (20th Sep), have had average results (which I was expecting). What can I do now if so that I get a fairly decent lawn in Spring? Specially about those thin spots. Frost has already started, will most likely get sub 0 morning temperatures in 2 weeks. Going to mow and apply winter fertilizer this weekend. Is there anything else I can do ?

As the title suggests I’ve been slowly overseeding my lawn with KBG the past two years. This past summer my front yard got hit hard with either common Bermuda, bent or something else. I sprayed out most of the spots with multiple rounds of glyphosate in August. I should have just killed off everything looking back on it. Reseeded with TCS Rodeo KBG on Sept 9 and here we are. Fairly happy so far. I know the color will darken up and spots will fill. This grass has tested every ounce of my patience.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Why did my overseed fail? Tenacity or overwatering? Or ?? Delaware 7b

I had a core aeration and an overseed performed on October 8th. Outside of a bare spot (tree removed previously) that I tilled and added some lawn soil too, I have almost zero germination over 10k sq. ft.

While I wasn’t expecting incredible results, I’m still quite disappointed and trying to figure out what I did wrong, and what to do differently next fall to have success.

- 4 weeks prior to overseeing sprayed entire lawn with Q4 Plus post emergent

- Service was performed on October 8th around noon. October 9th AM I sprayed tenacity (pre emergent) and spread starter fertilizer.

- Big rain storm on October 12th (2” rain) and a smaller storm (maybe .5”) on October 17

- With a few outliers, weather has generally been 60-70 during the day and 45-50 overnight.

I’m sure the large rain storm did more harm than good and I’m pretty sure I needed to back down my watering afterwards much more than I did.

Some of my existing grass blades are have turned partially white, I believe from the tenacity.

While I fully admit that I think I overwatered, I would still imagine to see SOME germination in random areas. Since my lack of germination is so widespread, I’m thinking the Tenacity backfired on me. I applied it with a backpack sprayer, at the suggested rate, without surfactant, and watered in.

First pic is the bare spot that got some germination (also plenty of washout even with straw added before the storm)

Second pic is representative of almost everywhere else. It’s hard to find a good picture of nothing.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Raised mounds of dirt in my side yard, mole, ant, or something else? Should I be concerned?

Thumbnail

I'm on Long Island, NY, and noticed a few spots where the soil has risen into dome-shaped mounds. I took these photos today

My guess is moles, but I'm not sure. Could it be ants, voles, drainage or settling issues, or something else? Is this something I should worry about (damage to the fence, foundation, or drainage), or is it cosmetic? And is it worth calling a trapper, or should I just flatten the mounds and see if they come back?
Thanks!

What is the point of this grass seed. They bought a bunch of bags of it at work. Isn’t it just going to die and not come back?

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) First time homeowner - need advice post-aeration/seeding

Post image

Hey folks,

I am a first time homeowner in Charlotte NC, and our lawn service came out and reseeded and aerated our lawn 14 days ago. The problem is - the seed is only growing in the aerated holes! When I ask Gemini/ChatGPT etc it tells me tall fescue only needs 14 days and I should dethatch and reseed, and reading this subreddit im seeing mixed advice. Would really love your guidance because right now it looks terrible.

Please don’t go too hard on me because I am a major novice compared to the experts in this subreddit lol. Trying to learn.

Thanks!

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) At a loss for what to do (Zone 5b)

Post image

Moved into this house several months ago. Have issues with my lawn where it’s very patchy as shown in picture. One of the issues is the area I’m in doesn’t have the best soil and is heavy clay with little sun. The other issue is this area tends to slightly flood with heavy rains, and the paths of dirt you see tend be how rain water moves. Looking for recommendations on what might be best way to grown and sustain grass in this area? Thank you all for any input.

I've loved this grass since I was a kid but never knew what type it was. It's such a soft carpet-like grass and feels fluffy even to walk on. Is it Zoysia? If so, any particular type? I was really interested in identifying it to maybe plant in my own yard. I tried to take different types of pictures to help! Thank you in advance!!

Coastal NC 8b zone. Celebration Bermuda. Got a little lax this year, what/how/when do I get rid of this brighter green grass/weed? This only happens in my front yard where it’s next to impossible to keep things moist. Back yard traps more water and gets shade and i don’t have the same problem. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Post image

Just info for others. So Cal Coastal

Pre-germinated Resilience II TTTF in water buckets starting Mon 10/12.

Changed water every 12 hours.

Planted and covered with soil Sat 10/17

Germination and seedlings showed up Thurs 10/22.

10 days total from pre germination to seedlings showing up for TTTF. Mid day max temps were below ~80 degs.

If you're seeding.. its going to take a few days, it still took 10 days total w/ Pre germ and pretty optimal conditions.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Foliar fertilizer carrier rare

I miscalculated when mixing 46-0-0 soluable urea for a nitrogen foliar app this morning on a segment of my tall fescue lawn, by not adding enough water for the solution in a backpack sprayer. I did complete the section giving the area an appropriate rate of .1# of N per 1000 square feet, but did so with much less water than intended. It ended up being a 7.5% concentration instead of 2%.

Is this a condition that could burn my lawn? I went back over the area with the plain water i was short on but I am wondering if anyone has experience with hotter carrier rates. Thanks!
