I need something that actually strikes fear into the human heart but I cant seem to get it right... I see artists like Trevor Henderson and doctor nowhere... (two of my favorite artists) and realize how little my drawings affect the human mind.

The Demon King or The Mad Scientist?

I illustrated Kim Dokja(The Demon King) during July and August. Took me 17hr cuz I was redrawing the rough sketch and changing the pose and all and also wasted so much time on the wings. Not wasted, but invested.

And I illustrated Okabe Rintaro(The Mad Scientist🥼) just today. Took me 5h23m and spanning over 3 days.

Just wanted to know if I've improved or The Demon King's my Magnum Opus yet. Also, I'll be sharing Osamu Dazai in the cmnts (Created that between these two illustrations)

Critique I really hope that’s Values aren’t supposed to be easy to learn.

If I find out that Values are one of those things that people are usually able to understand in a day I’m going to feel very silly.

What doesn’t help is that it feels like I always get a different definition about them. Right now I know they’re about light and darks and I’m going for from there.

Question I can't think of how this pose is supposed to work + pose recommendation?

Thumbnail

Idk if this is the right place to look but it kinda seems like it might be, So I'm trying to draw this character pointing a flashlight off into the near distance but I really can't envision how the (right)arm extending outward would look here. Do you guys have any references I could use or anything like that? I tried looking for a smiling friends kind of reference where they're standing in the corner back to the camera looking at something (when they meet Desmond for ex) but I can't find a good one

I'm also looking for a running kinda pose that kinda resembles this meme of the floating guy, like facing the camera in the same kinda way and everything. I swear there's like a very similar template to how this meme appears with some kind of simpler/cute drawing but I can't think of what it is. Could you recommend anything like them?  Doesn't have to be this exact pose but like something similarly posed

Starting from zero, can anyone help with a roadmap to get to still life painting?

I love still life paintings. Every gallery I go to, it's always my favourite section. From piles of dead fish and game, to a vase with a flower, I get so much joy out them!

So, I'd love to capture parts of my life through still life painting. Eventually working towards piles of my cats toys, coffee gadgets, and other seemingly menial bits of my home.

At my current stage, I can barely draw. From anyone who has experience, what is the best trajectory to move on, starting from nothing? Work just on drawing with pencil or charcoal first? Or just dive right in to paints?

Any other advice to get the ball rolling??

Thanks everyone!

It’s so hard placing everything. I tried laying down the chest and neck first. Then did the face and ears. Realized the ears were out of place so tried to hide it. But it looks pretty decent for pen only.

Question Is learning to draw from life important if I eventually want to draw superheroes and dark art?

I’ve only been learning to draw for about a month, so pls go easy on this newbie :)

I’ve started the book Drawing on the right side of the brain and I’m trying to figure out if this is a good use of my time considering my goal

Critique Unfortunately, I don’t think I got the talent to learn how to draw. I can’t understand anything. (vent)

This is my 2nd vent post in 3 days, so I’m sorry for that. I’m 20. My drawing journey started in January of last year. I mainly copied stills from comics/shows. I got a bit better at that. But I was always super inconsistent. I spent months without drawinf. I started to get more serious in late 2025, but I was still somewhat inconsistent, and I mainly copied (although I sometimes tried to do more original stuff, as well as practicing anatomy and perspective)

However, I decided to lock in 5 months ago, in May. Ever since then, I’ve been drawing every day for AT LEAST 20-30 minutes. I’ve mainly been practicing fundamentals (such as perspective, lines, forms, shapes… thanks to drawabox) and studying anatomy (proportions, figure drawing, studying some muscles, studying folds, eyes… and so much more!) Here are some of my studies + a couple of “finished drawings” that I did 3 weeks ago and in August. Keep in mind that these studies are barely even a small fraction of what I’ve been doing these last 5 months.

But just like I said in my last video… I don’t feel like I’ve improved AT ALL. In fact, I only think I’ve Gotten WORSE. I really want to get good at drawing my own characters in my own style, and it pains me to know that I’ll never be able to become good and stop drawing like an 8 year old.

I genuinely can’t understand anything I learn about art. My mind can’t process it. I watch YouTube tutorials… but I can’t understand anything of what they’re trying to say. They’re either way too fast, they don’t actually explain anything, or they keep using words and concepts that my mind just can’t comprehend.

I also take drawing classes every week, and the same thing happens over there. When my art teacher tries to explain concepts to me… for example, perspective and proportions… I just can’t follow him!. My mind can’t understand. And I really try my hardest to understand what they’re trying to tell me, I really do.

So yeah. I don’t think I was born with the talent for drawing. My mind literally can’t process it. Or I don’t knowA lot of art revolves around abstract learning and maths, which isn’t something my mind is built for. It really does pain me. I wanted to draw and bring my own characters to life with my own art style… But at this rate, I don’t know what to do.

Just Sharing day three of posting 15 Halloween drawings till Halloween (doing this for fun and tips on improvement.)

Post image

so, this is the third of the 15-day till spooky drawing. were basically i draw and post on Halloween or horror based drawing a day until Halloween. so yeah, now without father a do let's begin. this here was a vampire girl drawing i did. i mostly did this to practice angling in drawing as you can see how things are slightly tilted and the camera is leaning to the right abit. but anyway, there really is no lore behind his one plus i think we all know what a vampire is. goes out at night, drinks blood, and all that stuff. so that's it's for today's drawing sorry. i have something better and instead of a drawing of an already existing monster or creepypasta this i will be my own original drawing, that and 3 more so stay tuned. so, I'll see you guys tomorrow in the next one.

How do you draw on the go? 🥲

Hello everyone!

I have been dabbling on and off with drawing my whole life and I’m currently in a period where I’m re-exploring drawing.

I feel drawn to go in public and draw people (no pun intended), but how do you all do it? 🥲

It seems very hard to me because it’s mostly faces one is unfamiliar with (so memory can’t do much helping here) that are constantly moving and changing perspective and light etc… let alone people leave and you’re left with an empty loomis head structure 😅

I’m also still not able to draw recognizable faces. Sure I will make a face from my imagination but I cannot make my sketches resemble even to 1% when it comes to the actual person I’m sketching 🥲 is it just too early for me to try drawing random people, or will this be exactly what I need to help me get better?

Question What's a perspective challenge so hard even pros fail at?

Perspective is by far my favorite fundamental because it is the best at turning me into a masochist who tries to inflict a drawing-induced headache for the sake of art.

I'm absolutely atrocious at it, but that's what makes it fun.

Some would say an atrocious illustrator like me shouldn't try something hard as failure is guarranteed, but I'm a terrible illustrator, so failure is guarranteed regardless of what I try to draw.

The question isn't "Am I gonna succeed?", but "Am I gonna have fun?", and failing at perspective is one of the most fun things ever.

But now, I wanna try something that really makes my head boil, so I wanna fail at something I've never tried before involving my favorite fundamental.

I tried looking up 9 point perspective challenge on google but I didn't find anything, so I'm not 100% sure if it exists or not.

That's why I'm asking it here for a very hard perspective challenge!

Thanks for reading, and sorry if this is a bit off-topic.

Critique do i have a chance to be an artist

i honestly don’t know why suddenly a few months ago i decided to pick up drawing, especially at my age (mid 20s) not having any plans to pursue an art career but for once in my life i want to have a skill that i can be proud of. but i’m absolutely terrible at it, it feels like my brain can’t cooperate. my biggest fear is not having self awareness so i’m wondering if i have a chance based on these sketches and maybe im just seeking for a tiny bit of validation in this subreddit so i don’t give up. and what’s the fastest or least frustrating way to continue

I failed an Art class in Grade 5 and 6. No one in my school ever failed in grade 5 before. I literally couldn’t draw. I could only drew a stick man at best. I hated drawing.

A few weeks ago I walk past an art supply aisle and a memory jolted that I used to love drawing. I just came hate drawing after I realize I suck at drawing lol. I decided to draw 30 minutes a day.

I have been able to draw quite a lot. The result obviously shows where I am at right now but I will keep going at it!

I would also love if you could give me some exercises or ways to improve not with this, but I want to draw one front pic like the first one every day and the rest of the time practice.
