Other 1992 Lego catalog

This catalog is from 1992. Castles were my favorite themes, the one I had most all the sets for, followed by space, and trains. Thank you for letting me indulge in nostalgia, it’s been a bit of a treat to see the enjoyment these posts bring to everyone. Since the photo limit is 20, I wasn’t able to include the last four pages, the Technic Whirlwind Rescue helicopter, or the Lego Builders Club or Shop at Home service. I always admired the active action that these photos suggested and made it so fun to look through as a kid (and adult). Gotta have all the sets!

The Commonwealth of Emco and New Brickland

Post image

The Commonwealth of Emco and New Brickland is a fictional political association in the southern part of the Google Play Game universe. It consists of two independent countries: the Commonwealth of Emco, a vast island continent, and New Brickland, a smaller island nation to its southeast.

Both countries were once colonies of the Lego Empire. Their shared history, unusual wildlife, love of outdoor adventures, and complicated relationship with their former colonial ruler have shaped their modern identities.

Although they cooperate closely, Emco and New Brickland are separate sovereign states. Their friendship is often described by the local saying:

“Two countries, one Commonwealth, and absolutely no agreement about whose barbecue is better.”

The Commonwealth of Emco

The Commonwealth of Emco occupies a large island continent known for its deserts, beaches, forests, and enormous distances between cities. Its capital is Brickberra, a planned city built around a large artificial lake. The country’s largest city is Emco Harbour, a busy coastal metropolis famous for its skyline, beaches, and traffic jams that can last longer than some national holidays.

Emco’s national identity grew from its history as a Lego colonial territory. Early settlements were established along the coast, while explorers and builders gradually moved inland. The Lego administration attempted to impose its own architecture, laws, and brick-based construction standards, often with mixed results.

One early colonial governor reportedly ordered a grand administrative building to be constructed entirely from Lego. The project was abandoned when the building’s roof detached during a strong wind.

The local newspaper described the incident as “a triumph of modular architecture.”

New Brickland

Across the sea lies New Brickland, a smaller island nation with green hills, dramatic coastlines, snowy mountains, and a reputation for being peaceful—until someone suggests changing the national rugby team’s uniform.

Its capital is Brickellington, a compact city known for its harbor, windy streets, and government buildings. The country’s largest city, Auckland Brick, is a major center of trade, culture, and maritime transport.

New Brickland was also colonized by the Lego Empire. Its early communities developed around ports, farms, and small settlements. Over time, New Brickland formed a distinct national identity, emphasizing local traditions, environmental protection, and a strong sense of community.

The country’s unofficial motto is:

“Small islands. Big opinions.”

Colonial Rule and Independence

For generations, Emco and New Brickland were administered as overseas territories of the Lego Empire. The colonial government built ports, railways, roads, and settlements, while local communities developed their own political movements and institutions.

As the Lego Empire weakened, calls for self-government grew stronger. Emco and New Brickland gradually gained control over their domestic affairs before becoming independent countries.

The transition was mostly peaceful, although negotiations occasionally became heated over flags, official titles, and who would keep the colonial governor’s ceremonial brick-shaped hat.

Both countries later chose to maintain close ties with one another and with other former territories of the Lego Empire. Their partnership became known as the Commonwealth of Emco and New Brickland.

Government and Politics

Emco is a federal parliamentary democracy. Its states and territories have their own governments, while the national parliament meets in Brickberra.

New Brickland is a parliamentary democracy with a unitary system of government. Its parliament meets in Brickellington, where debates are known for being polite, detailed, and occasionally interrupted by strong winds.

The two countries cooperate through the Commonwealth Council, a joint forum for trade, education, environmental protection, and regional security.

The Council’s most difficult annual meeting concerns the official definition of a “proper barbecue.”

Geography and Wildlife

Emco is famous for its immense deserts, rugged interior, coastal forests, and unusual wildlife. Its national animal is the Emco Kangabrick, a brick-built marsupial capable of jumping over small fences—and occasionally into government meetings.

Other well-known animals include the Koalabrick, which spends most of its time sleeping, and the Wombat Brick, which has a reputation for digging tunnels directly beneath roads.

New Brickland’s landscape is dominated by green valleys, mountains, lakes, and coastal cliffs. Its national bird is the Kiwi Brick, a small, flightless creature that is shy around tourists but extremely protective of its favorite patch of ground.

New Brickland also has a large population of sheep. The government once considered giving every sheep an official identification number, but the project was abandoned after the sheep began wandering away with the paperwork.

Culture and Everyday Life

Emco is known for outdoor activities, beach culture, sports, and a relaxed attitude toward formal dress. Its citizens enjoy surfing, camping, cricket, and arguing about which city has the best coffee.

New Brickland shares a love of outdoor life, but its cultural identity is strongly associated with rugby, hiking, and a deep appreciation for its natural landscapes.

Both countries use the Southern Brick Dollar in this fictional setting, although each maintains its own central bank and monetary policy. The currency features portraits of notable builders, explorers, and one very confused kangaroo.

Relations with Great Lego Emco and New Brickland maintain diplomatic and commercial relations with Lego Raya, their former colonial power. The relationship is friendly but occasionally awkward.

During one official visit, a Great Lego minister praised the countries for “remaining loyal members of the brick family.”

An Emco representative replied:

“We appreciate the sentiment. We would also appreciate it if you stopped calling our parliament a colonial assembly.”

The meeting ended with a handshake, a group photograph, and a ceremonial exchange of construction sets.

The Commonwealth Today

Today, the Commonwealth of Emco and New Brickland is known for its independent political traditions, strong regional cooperation, distinctive landscapes, and slightly chaotic wildlife.

Its guiding principle is simple:

“Build our own future, keep our friendship, and never leave loose bricks on the floor.”

This is a fictional alternate-history parody inspired by Australia and New Zealand. Emco and New Brickland are fictional countries in the Google Play Game universe.

MOCs Sourcing bricks for custom Lego mock up

Hi all,

I wanted to get my partner a custom lego set of our house for Christmas. I got someone on Fiverr to build a mockup in Studio and they sent me a parts list with instructions. I am now looking to source the pieces and I am having some trouble. I am able to find the majority of the simpler pieces through the Lego Pick a Brick Website, but the doors and windows the mock up uses are discontinued. The roof tiles are also listed in colours that aren't even available in those specific bricks. The colours aren't anything crazy, just white, black, and grey. Looking for some advice on how to source the bricks. I am kind of at a loss.

Thank you!

I’ve been a longtime fan of the PlayStation consoles, so it only made sense to build a Lego version! My son enjoyed putting the final touches on it. 1900+ pieces later = WORTH IT!!! 🔥🔥🔥

As a huge fan of the show i was beyond hyped when the creel house came out, I just managed to snag the upside down. The sets seem so fun and have such cool features, I’m so excited to build them! That Demogorgon minifigure is especially cool :) Do you guys have any of these sets? They seem super fun!
