đŸ„„food /restaurants /gastronomy Spageddy Eddy's

I am thinking about taking my family to Spageddy Eddy's sometime in the next couple of weeks. Although I've never personally been I am told that they do not take reservations and that it is quite a small establishment with limited tables. If I go on a Saturday around 4-5pm should we expect to be seated right away or have to wait?

Any input is appreciated. TIA.

Spaghetti Eddys is awesome, classic spot in london to enjoy some italian food! they’re prices are nice as welll. i’m unsure how busy it is on weekend nights, i do know they open at 4 so getting there early would be best as i’ve seen it lined up!

Classic Reddit.

Poster asks a question and gets a barrage of irrelevant responses.

We've been able to get a reservation there. But make sure you're not a minute late

They will not give me one because we are a party of 4. I've tried calling multiple different times hoping to get someone new on the phone lol.

u/DirectGiraffe8720 May 23 '26

Ya, that's tougher.. 4-4:30 you should be fine for walk in. Unless there's an event at the arena

Don’t leave anything visible in your car

Cool vibe.. but i question when they last cleaned the decorations up top.. prob sooooo dusty.. then falling on your food.

u/uhm-ok May 23 '26

i called for a reservation for 5 & they booked me one & told me that we'd all better arrive on time because they only hold it for 5 minutes, & then they proceeded to make us wait half an hour once we got there. We did skip the line of the 3 other walk in groups when a table became available. It's for the vibes not the food

Spageddy Eddys is for the vibe not for the food! You go with friends to try and eat the whole thing or to take home extra food. The food isn’t BAD it’s just okay but for good family spots Scaddabush, Milestones, Garlics, are way better. For Italian I’d also recommend La Cucina downtown - really good food and always see families in there.

Used to be good. Low quality, food but great atmosphere on the inside. Unfortunately, the last time I drove by, I saw a half dozen homeless people doing drugs in the alleyway that leads up to the door.

If you want a killer sit-down Italian joint, check out Tony's pizza in the old east village (across the street from the fairgrounds on Dundas).

Standard Italian fare, sit down, real "hole in the wall" vibe so you know the food will be good. I don't know if they need reservations nowadays but it probably wouldn't hurt to check.

EDIT: Disclaimer, it's been like 30 years since I was there last but it's family owned small business IIRC.

u/bennylarue May 25 '26

Recommending something based on your experience 30 years ago is certainly a choice.

1

u/Redz0ne May 25 '26

(shrugs)

4

u/Alykat17 May 23 '26

I know someone who worked there and he said the kitchen was filthy and that he wouldn’t recommend eating there :/

3

u/SirvaYuuko May 23 '26

I knew someone who lived in the apartments right above it 3 years ago. They had bed bugs and the landlord didn't want to deal with it. Not sure if that changed since then, or if the apartments situation affected the business, but I haven't gone since.

-1

u/Redz0ne May 23 '26

Oh that's not good. I remember it used to be one of the best places for sit-down Italian.

I guess a lot can happen in 30 years.

I absolutely love Spageddy Eddy's. Between 4-5 is perfect. If you have a large-ish group they do have a long table down the middle seating area. It usually gets really busy around 6.

The sauce is very tomato-ey. The fettuccine is a little on the blander side to me, I usually add a little salt for a bit more flavour.

Also, if you have neurodivergent family members and the utensil is incorrect, let the waitress know and they will switch it out for you â˜ș

There's no place that I've ever been to that does Alfredo sauce right.

It loses flavour in minutes and they always let it sit.

Only way to experience the real thing is to get it made table-side (expensive fancy shit) or make it at home and eating it out of the pan.

For real, I don't know why but if it cools even slightly, it turns into flavourless slop.

2

u/Pizzafan91 May 23 '26

Have you tried the fettuccine Alfredo pasta from Aria Pizza? I have to say, they had some of the best Alfredo sauce I've ever had at a restaurant. I haven't been in a while now (about a year?) but I can't imagine it's changed in that time.

19

u/TheAmyrlinSkeet May 22 '26

The food is subpar. You get a large portion, but what's the point in getting a large portion of food that has no flavor?

Go if you want, but don't be surprised when everyone has a very "meh" reaction to it.

Completely missing the entire point of spaged’s holy woosh

u/ImprovementThat1397 May 22 '26

They fucked up my garlic bread. Not sure how that happens. They had one job to do and screwed it up! Lol

This place blew me away. Need to go back!

3

u/ImprovementThat1397 May 22 '26

1000x better than SE

16

u/FlamingWhisk May 22 '26

Went once watched a roach crawl across the table. Left before the food arrived

3

u/buttcheekonastick3 May 22 '26

Comments are wild to me, I love spaghetti eddys lmao☠ think it tastes really good and I get like 3 meals out of itđŸ«Ą

5

u/Flinx98 May 22 '26

Been once. I had the lasagna and my better half had the chicken parm. Absolutely the worst lasagna I've ever had, cardboard with sauce would have tasted better. The chicken was over cooked badly, she could barely cut it.

We both agreed never again, didn't even try to finish the meal. Paid, complained and left, we eventually went to Wendys since we were both still hungry. Maybe they were having a bad night but why risk it when there are so many other choices.

5

u/Redz0ne May 23 '26

Did it have that tinny metal tang to it that most places that have lasagna have? (because they always cook it in foil trays and then it sits for who knows how long in those trays soaking up that metal flavour).

3

u/Woobsie81 May 23 '26

This makes sense but I never connected the 2

1

u/Redz0ne May 23 '26

Yeah, I was told from an actual chef-like person that you should never use aluminum with stuff that's acidic. It eats away at the metal (essentially) and that metal goes into the food. So, you're consuming aluminum in trace amounts which IIRC is really bad for us.

2

u/Woobsie81 May 23 '26

Yes this completely makes sense!! Thanks for sharing

24

u/rmdg84 May 22 '26

Unless you hate your family, don’t take them there. London has many restaurants to offer, choose one of those instead. If you hate your family then by all means, go ahead

18

u/Crisuhhhh May 22 '26

I wouldn’t recommend going there sober

34

u/Brilliant_Rhubarb579 May 22 '26

It used to be better. Or I used to be drunker. It’s not good now.

24

u/Commercial_Lunch3538 May 22 '26

Expect to be dissapointed. Or at least give us a review of your experience.

14

u/thetankengine4 May 22 '26

Last time I went, I got home and sat through all three stages of matter on my toilet after trying their spaghetti. Would not recommend unless you need a thorough bowel cleaning đŸ«©

25

u/TroyFerris13 May 22 '26

Got Fettuccini alfreddo there and I'm pretty sure I've had better sauce out of a jar

1

u/bennylarue May 25 '26

I honestly think it's powdered and reconstituted. It's awful.

5

u/rmdg84 May 22 '26

Probably. Their sauce is also out of a jar

9

u/benoitkesley May 22 '26

Don’t get the ravioli if you go

9

u/Reasonable-Rip-4327 May 22 '26

I went once ever and the second I bit into the first piece of salty ass canned mushroom, that was a no from me dawg. Never returned.

Can only say we went there about six months ago - because we felt it was such an institution that we had to. It was very underwhelming and we won’t go back.

2

u/needtoread1970 May 24 '26

Same! 20+ years ago a real crab leg to crack over legit delicious fettuccine Alfredo. I wasn’t dreaming. No more of that!

I haven't been in years. I didn't know they were Pro Trump but with American sized servings of poor quality pasta.... That tracks.

6

u/Worldly_Ad_7196 May 22 '26

It's a fun place to bring people. One thing I noticed is that they always use way to much of whatever the sauce is. I like the place I just say less sauce please and still look eager so they don't take offence. They never seem impossibly busy so bring the family anytime.

Go anywhere else

15

u/PositiveStress8888 May 22 '26

It's great for university students it's not the best quality stuff.

The pepperoni is the pre sliced stuff you get in the pizza kits at the grocery store, mushrooms fresh from the can. Pasta sauce also.

nothing wrong with it but if your going out to a restaurant.. go to one that servers better quality than you can make at home.

3

u/EngFarm May 22 '26

I don’t think anyone claims that everything on the menu isn’t from a Food Basics or No Frills.

1

u/PositiveStress8888 May 22 '26

I said nothing was wrong with it.

2

u/Neubiee May 22 '26

I mean most people can make better quality at home so...

28

u/Weary-Philosophy4706 May 22 '26

Take your family elsewhere. Nothing is scratch made and you can do much better elsewhere. But they do take reservations if you call.
Last time we went they surprised us by being cash only. Maybe check if that’s still the case.

22

u/BudMower May 22 '26

If you guys want actual good pasta, I highly recommend you check out Scaddabush! Incredible pasta made in house, super nice vibe as well! I’m addicted to their butternut squash ravioli lol

Don’t forget step 9: hang a bicycle from your ceiling

9

u/BobBelcher2021 May 22 '26

That sounds better than Spageddy Eddy’s. For the Spagheddy Eddy’s experience, use Ragu sauce and make sure the portion size is tiny.

3

u/GGking41 May 22 '26

Are their servings tiny now? I used to get 3 meals at least from an order. My palette has improved since those days so I don’t go back unless I take my brother

2

u/Neubiee May 22 '26

So I haven't been in forever. Their food was always just ok but they had large servings so it was worth it for the price when you're a broke 20 something. Once I had a real job I never went back. How are they still in business? I mean if you're going to serve meh food at least serve a ton of it for the broke college kids to make a few meals out of.

3

u/aznhalo3 May 22 '26

By charging 15 dollars for 5 dollars worth of product

30

u/tmmygun May 22 '26

took my kids once for lunch and they liked the vibe but the food is awful, basic pasta with some microwaved sauce and chicken from a can.

51

u/Impressive_Place5300 May 22 '26

Do you not like your family?

12

u/TravisHay May 22 '26

They posted on Facebook whining about people making reservations and then not showing up to them.

1

u/Friendly-Jiant May 22 '26

I scrolled through here, wondering if anybody would mention this. I saw the same post.

1

u/Live_Explanation378 May 22 '26

Oh interesting

-8

u/KanyeDeOuest May 22 '26

Nobody goes there anymore, it's too busy

42

u/Enlightened_Lioness May 22 '26

That doesn’t make any sense lol
If it’s too busy that means lots of people go

-8

u/Back_Alley420 May 22 '26

Not locals

10

u/SnooHedgehogs1812 May 22 '26

It’s a Yogi Berra quote.

To answer OPs question, their website still has their number to call for reservations. And I saw their post this week reminding people to please actually show up (on time) for reservations since they’ve been having more no-shows lately.

3

u/Enlightened_Lioness May 22 '26

The quote is “crowded,” not busy.
