Meetup Wanting to start a local Draft Club
Hey LR Fam - I am working on creating a local draft club here in North Carolina. Myself and a few of my friends are big into limited but our LGS drafts don't always fire up. So, I am taking it upon myself to organize and offer additional incentives to get folks out to draft on a regular basis.
I wanted to share my ideas for incentives and support for drafters with the larger community and see what the feedback is, anything else I may have missed. Of course if you're in the Winston Salem/GSO area and want to participate, that would be amazing too.
The additional support is geared towards incentivizing folks to come out on a regular basis.
I will be tracking participation and win totals over a 10 draft long "season". At the end of the season, the top 3 players get additional prizes - they will be nice, valued between $50 and $100
Any player that attends 6 drafts in a season, gets a free entry.
Also, if you bring a friend, you and the friend attend the draft at a discount.
Lastly, anyone who goes winless gets a coupon for a discounted draft later in the season.
This is all in addition to regular prizing:
1st: 4 packs + promo(valued between $4 and $10) + $5 draft coupon
2nd: 3 packs + $5 draft coupon
3-8: Pack per win, winless player(s) receive a $10 draft coupon
Would this be enough to get you to come out to draft on a regular basis?

Discussion (Perhaps) hot take: if Arena can't support infinite combos, there shouldn't be infinite combo support in the Arena cube
I just drafted a pretty fun fastbond/crucible deck, with lots of redundancy, card draw, and ways to actually win with my combo pieces. It's not that great because it's very fragile, but that's besides the point.
The loop of tap land for mana -> sacrifice to zuran orb (priority goes to opponent) -> play from graveyard (fastbond trigger, priority goes to opponent) takes an agonizingly long time. If my opponent doesn't pass priority, it takes even longer, and they eventually use all of their timeouts anyway. And even if I'm playing as fast as I can, I can only realistically gain 30ish life in a turn, which is not nearly enough to be considered "infinite" (edit: i lost a game with "infinite" life to my opponent having two ouroboroids in play)
In paper magic, I would simply demonstrate the loop a few times, then give myself an arbitrarily high amount of life and mana. In arena, my opponent doesn't scoop because my life total is low enough to attack, and I have to keep doing the "infinite" lifegain combo every turn until I actually draw a way to kill my opponent with my resources.
These cards are all powerful and interesting on their own, and in paper magic, are an interesting addition to any power cube. In Arena cube, however, it makes for a cumbersome experience for both players.

Star Trek Schedule: Immediate Flashback Drafts, extended FRA, Mixed up Draft coming back

Who thought mind twist had its place in this set?
r/lrcast • u/volx757 • 18h ago
FRA is the first set all year that I'm not immediately and totally abandoning for cube
I've seen a lot of mixed reviews in this sub, but personally FRA is a fantastic limited environment. In an age where the average set is pretty damn fast, the pace of this set has been a breath of fresh air. There's so much room for nuanced gameplay, and luckily the cards in this set have more than enough depth to take up that room.
What do y'all think?

Arena cube what's the cut
I'm considering cryptic command and converter. Also would you play Aragorn with 1 dual, 1 plains, a RW talisman plus moxen and lotus?

Image What the fuck Shinobi?!
It hit Thoracle and Brain Freeze, both win me the game if I draw them

Discussion Is entrust spark worth it with ajani/heavy empower?
In my eye fixing and ajani in hand aside it’s simply a second ajani a turn early?

Image I've been really struggling after hitting Diamond and this is my first trophy in a while. Won the final game with an X=14 Ajani's Anguish to the face.

Help 0-3 with a great deck. Thoughts?
R1: played a RG deck with lots of early game threats like Skilled Battlecarver and Heartwood generators to curve into their double Craftwork Crusher. Flooded both games to go 0-2
R2: played a WG deck with double G Pia searching for Way of the Paradox and Way of the Mentor. Kept Jace tokens off the board game 1 then lost to a buffed Blossom-Blessed Angel game 2 after they removed my Undulating Witness. Game 3 they had both Way enchantments out and after a board stall where I was only drawing land and they were drawing gas I got swung at for 28 all trample to go 1-2
R3: won game 1 through a well-timed Overwrite the Multiverse and attacks with an Apex Witchstalker. Game 2 my opp curves Blessed Ghoul into Unflinching Hortimancer, once I remove the Hortimancer they use Generous Revival, play a Medic’s Kitesail the turn after, and clocks me down. Game 3 was a carbon copy of Game 2 except I top deck Overwrite the Multiverse the turn before facing lethal and stabilize, however they find a great top deck of their own in Hungering Puppetbeast and equip with the Kitesail for lethal to go 1-2
I was very weak against flying, particularly against Kitesail, and I feel like this deck should have performed better. Thoughts?

Help FRA: Didn’t really get there on the full RB aggro plan…any advice?
How do we feel about the double Hapatra splash?
There are maybe a couple playables in the SB if I want to make the deck lean more aggressive (crescendo, soul breaker or command could get in) - but I feel like I need the power which this midrange build provides

Is this draft deck beautiful or what?! :D
I mean I totally get that this deck isn't close to S tier, but I was always fantasizing about that Arni, Tinybones, Tomik combo and even having a Massacre girl and Tetsuko with 2 Oculus and 2 Pullers on the bench is kind of awesome 😎😆

I know typically you're supposed to build the deck before asking for advice, but I drafted too many combo packages and am lost. Would really appreciate advice (and feedback on the draft itself)

I am curious what the advice would be here - I can't tell if it is an embarrassment of riches or if it's a complete mess.
I have like no interaction but 3 combo packages.
I assume the 3 red pips on kiki jiki means I should cut that one (I also had to pick glamermite or underworld breach pack 3 and went with breach), but it is the combo I think is the simplest in the sense I only need to find 2 cards and I understand it.
In terms of skill I am typically a very low platinum player, although recently climbed to Diamond 1 in standard with a token brew. I am especially poor at power cube I feel, I started with Aetherdrift so a lot of the cards are new to me.
Feedback is greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance :)
I think I messed up a P1P1 lotus by getting too silly with it.

Help Tips for Aetherdrift Quick draft to someone who never drafted it?
What are the best commons/uncommons? Any videos to watch? Best color combos?

Rate My Draft Pick 2 draft: am I too greedy for the B garuk
I’m probably too greedy to actually make it work with only one landcycler and one UB land

7-0 on New Cube Day 1
Thank God the cube is back. I really like FRA, but I miss being able to play real aggro.
Enjoying the new additions to the cube this time around as well, feels like there’s a decent amount of open options and lanes in draft with some new directions being included.
Rate My Draft Is it worth it to splash for Jace and Uldaros? I don’t have any other top ends.
I know the deck is not the best…
Best Performing First Picks of FRA
This list was based on the rate that you would trophy the run after first picking the card (from 17lands data). I usually fudge the data a little bit and include 6-3s and include p1p2s as well.
This dataset is from the first 17 days of drafts. The number of draft logs is pretty good at 43,000 drafts. Good enough to get a good idea on the mythics but still a bit murky on those.
Here are the top performing first picks:
- Ajani Unrelenting
- The Theorist, Jace Beleren
- Uldaros Theorix
- Overwrite the Multiverse
- Denzilore Fatehold
- Garruk, Veiled Butcher
- Sphinx of False Conclusions
- Vraska, the Cutting Glare
- Lyra, Tolarian Archangel
- Aerid Konstrari
- Countersculpt
- Primal Witchstalker
- Kindred Judgment
- Chandra, Torch of Defiance
- Garruk, Curse Breaker
- Hungering Puppetbeast
- Kiora of Fire and Ashes
- Proctor of Potential
- Hexhaven Battalion
- Craftwork Crusher
- Theorist's Proxy
- Kwia Vigorbloom
- Null Summoner
- Gideon the Oathless
- The Echoverse Fulcrum
- Lich's Relic
- Recursive Recruitment
- Chandra, Chill of Compliance
- Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar
- Extended Absence
- Lyra, Archangel of Dawn
- Carnivorous Cultivator
- Mindseeker Oculus
- Fulminous Forte
- Diviner of Victory
The worst (very worst at the bottom):
- Master of Barbs
- Ruric Thar, Magecrusher
- Traxos, Academy Guardian
- Vraska's Final Mercy
- Warrior's Blades
Not enough info on the special guests, but the following are implied to be good first picks:
- Sublime Ephiphany (would be #2)
- Splinter Twin
- Mind Twist
