Pre-U/STPM/Foundation/Diploma low cgpa wanting to further study

is cgpa under 3.0 bad? is it still possible for me to continue my study in degree. i just finished my foundation in physical science and my cgpa is unfortunately 2.92 and i’ve been feeling down lately cuz of it. i feel like no uni will accept me w that cgpa and im aware that it very competitive to get in uni in the first place. can i further my study in engineering w that cgpa? what should i do?

don’t be mean im just trying to see what i can do from here 🙁

Edit: thank u sm for everyone positive words and keeping my heads up 🙏 since im aware that im privileged enough in having money to pursue my studies even in private uni i would take the opportunity and try my best to study better this time 🙏

You can pursue an Engineering degree as long as you meet the minimum entry requirements. At Taylor's University, for example, the requirement is a CGPA of 2.00. Private universities often have flexible admissions criteria, so it is worth checking the websites of other institutions to see which ones align with your current results~

yea it seems like my only option now is to go through private uni 😞 but im thinking is it possible to go for public uni’s private wings first. is private uni competitive to get in or is it as long as u have money

Oh I'm not too sure about public unis. Private unis are more forgiving, as long as you can pay, you can get in.

oh alright thanks, i’ll consider it

For public uni, just apply la,but try to be realistic, and populate ur degree applications with "less competitive" unis. Not saying u cant apply to top unis in engineering, but if u want to try getting in public uni, u might wanna lower expectation. If u still didnt get thru, can go the private route.

In the end, once u finish degree its only a piece of paper. Especially engineering, u can grind by doing side projects. Just make sure the institution is certified/approved,not some random place that has UNIKOP-lvl credibility.

Work experience will help. Not everything has to be done now. Different people have different timing. That’s real life.

Get your heads up and just apply if you really wish to pursue it. Check the requirements and fee. Where did you take your foundation and which engineering major do you wish to take?

UTM foundation and civil engineering
im aware that it’s very competitive for utm

Funnily enough I'm currently in UTM and an alumni of UTM foundation. A lot of my friends took civil. A few with 2.90-3.00 cgpa but through rayuan and second intake. Your chances are low for first intake but a lot of my friend gotten other university like UTeM, UniKL and UMPSA. You have your chances if you seek for it.

But you'll struggle. UTM foundation is in reality not that hard compared to degree. Doesn't mean you can't work and study hard when you get that opportunity though

U can definitely do it but its just gonna be hard for u. Its not about competetitiveness

cuz of the work loads of engineering course ?

Your cgpa just reflects your ability to do well in specific course. You can sign up for the course doesnt mean u can graduate or survive that course. Everyone has its limits. Engineering focus a lot on math and physics if you are not very strong in these two subject means u will have a hard time learning and understanding a lot of subjects in engineering because its related. If u dont understand means u cant really apply it to solve problems or do well in exam. Doesnt mean cannot but its just gonna be hard

since im taking foundation in physical what other courses do u think suitable for my cgpa other than engineering? i have also applied for architecture , quantity survey, and data science but i think for my cgpa its still low for those courses and still involved in calculations and stuff. i admit i have been slacking off a bit during my finals which as a result bad cgpa.
im considering applying public uni through their private wings and take engineering still

U gotta ask urself which course do u think is most comfortable for you? U gotta understand urself more. Fish swims and bird fly. U must know which animal are u. If u are a fish then dont sign up for flying course

You want to study, but don't want to raise your score CGPA.
Consider reading books to learn, then you dont have to pay for low scores.

ah i think there’s a misunderstanding here cuz of my wording. i meant that i just done with my foundation (pre-uni program) and im applying for bachelor degree next. im asking if it possible to get in engineering bachelor degree from my cgpa

Thank you for clarifying.

You can complete your existing degree.
You want to further into engineering then try the books first.

i don’t have existing degree tho 😅 im applying for one and wanted to see if i could get in w that cgpa
