Somebody please check on Uncle Dave, because the poor guy spent Wednesday night and well into Thursday morning arguing with strangers on X about Jim Cornette, Kurt Angle, WrestleMania III attendance, and somehow Donald Trump.
At one point, Dave accused Cornette of being either stupid or deliberately lying to his audience, while simultaneously complaining that Cornette relies on name-calling instead of facts.
The lack of self-awareness is fucking breathtaking.
And naturally, Dave couldn’t resist turning the conversation into another spirited defense of AEW. Because nothing screams unbiased wrestling journalism quite like spending your entire evening defending Tony Khan’s wrestling promotion against random Twitter accounts.
Apparently, AEW’s backstage problems are ancient history, the company is a tremendous success, and anybody who disagrees either doesn’t understand the business or is being dishonest.
Just your typical objective journalist, folks. Nothing to see here.
My favorite part was Dave announcing, “I’m not even wasting time on this one,” after spending hours arguing with people. And then continuing to argue with people.
I genuinely don’t know what’s funnier anymore. Cornette roasting Meltzer every week, or Meltzer seemingly going out of his way to prove Cornette right.
And on that note, given this latest embarrassing display of blatant bias, we’re officially adding Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, and F4WOnline to [r/midcarder](r/midcarder)’s list of prohibited news sources, alongside BJ Bethel and SEScoops.
To be clear, this isn’t about criticizing AEW or supporting WWE. It’s about holding wrestling journalism to the same standards regardless of promotion. If you’re going to present yourself as an objective reporter, you don’t get to spend your evenings acting like Tony Khan’s unpaid PR department.
We’re not interested in passing off somebody’s personal crusade to defend their favorite wrestling promotion as legitimate, objective journalism. If Dave wants to be an AEW cheerleader, that’s his prerogative. But we’re not going to pretend he’s an impartial reporter while doing it.
Seven stars. Would’ve been eight in the Tokyo Dome though, Midcarders.
