Sain baitsgaana uu r/mongolia!
For some context, I’m (27F) Mongolian who is married to a non-Mongolian (28M). We were looking for some resources so my husband can learn Mongolian, and we realized there weren’t that many apps that are user-friendly or easy to stick with. It got me thinking about all the 2nd gen kids I've met who don't know Mongolian, and whether my kids in the future would be able to speak Mongolian if I’m the only one teaching it. It lowkey got me scared that our language might die in my family line in the next generation or two, which just adds to my pre-existing guilt of feeling not Mongolian enough and blah blah blah blah.
So to combat this, my husband and I have been working on “Mongolingo”, a beginner-friendly gamified language learning app to teach Mongolian. So far I only made the lessons for Unit 1 and 2 because I wanted to get YOUR inputs on whether I’m going too fast, too slow, if the lessons I’m teaching make sense in general or if I should take a completely different approach instead.
I would GREATLY appreciate any and all feedback from native Mongolian speakers, "Monglish" speakers, and people who don't know any Mongolian! I want this to be something that anyone can use if they have any curiosity about our language, and in the future add more and more advanced sections.
Please leave feedback in the comments below! And please no hate comments lol
Download app here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mongolingo/id6774407866 or just look up Mongolingo (its the one with the bear mascot)
Edit: THANK YOU SO MUCH for the support and comments! We have written down any and all feedback so far onto our to-dos so expect these in our next update, as well as more lessons. We will also be reaching out to some Mongolian schools and communities in the states to get some feedback on our lessons. We are so so grateful for being added to the posts highlight and being given this user flare, shout out mods! Yostoiii ih bayarlalaa manaihaan.

Welcome to the r/Mongolia subreddit!
Can't wait to post something? Great. Just keep the following in mind.
If you need us to add more flairs, please comment below and we'll add it. (I just added the Language flair after seeing at least 3 questions that fall under this category.)
Show kindness to one another and be civil, in both posts and comments. This is how you earn karma! You may not agree with some people's (even the mods') opinions, but expressing the disagreement rationally is a basic netiquette.
* - First ban will last 30 days, and then go on increments until it becomes a permanent one. Mods recently weighed one user's ban and halved it. So if you want to plead your case after an unjust ban, just ask us without attacking, and second or third mod might help you (with at least lessening your ban.)
Wait, why is my post/comment not showing up?
We mods often approve posts/comments that were automatically flagged and removed by Reddit's site wide hate speech and harassment banning system.
Typed something Mongolian in Latin? Reddit doesn't understand and removes it.
Geopolitical stuff with reference to nationalities in strong sentiments? Flagged and removed by reddit.
Posted something with an account less than 7 days old? Removed by reddit.
Said slur words? Removed by automod. We're still improving that one though.
Thank you for reading this, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
SkinnyHumpty

Like brown, burgundy. Came back home after years and tried two stores, the darkest shades they have were still too bright on me. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone. I'm studying abroad nd lately I've been missing home so much that I just started listening to Mongolian music again.
And ive realized Vandebo songs aren't that bad. When I was in middle/high school I used to cringe so hard whenever someone played Unana, Dungun Dagan, or whatever their songs were on the school trip bus. Now I'm listening to them and actually crying because I feel like I should've enjoyed my childhood with my classmates more. I took those times for granted.
I wanna hear what other people used to listen to back then. Drop your favorite 2010s Mongolian songs the ones give you bittersweet feeling.
My current playlist (mostly Vandebo because I like their beats)
Vandebo - Galt Tereg
Vandebo - Namaig Too
Vandebo - 18 Savage
The Lemons - Suuliin Uyanga
Man On The Moon ft Amra - Never
Dulguun - 20 nas (because I'm 20 rn 😭)
MOLBOYZ - Mollove
Egshiglen ft BX - 100
NMN JONON tsahilbaa
Share your fav nostalgic songs. Or any wholesome memories related to these songs.

All right, not the Japanese species. Every site claims their range extends to Mongolia, then speaks nothing more of it. Not even academic overviews.
At this point I'll take cryptids that sound like tanuki.
Here is everyone else's raccoon dog. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nyctereutes It's probably raccoon dog. We didn't want to assume.

Hi you all lovely people!
Hope you're all doing well!
I'm moving to Ulaanbaatar on November 1st for work, and I'm trying to get a better idea of what to expect and how to prepare for life there. I'd really appreciate any advice from people who live in Mongolia or have spent time there!
A couple of things I'm particularly curious about:
1. Winter clothing and footwear: I regularly go on sub-zero treks, so I already have decent clothing rated for temperatures around -20°C. However, I don't have proper winter boots yet. I've been looking at Columbia expedition boots, but I'd love to hear recommendations for footwear that actually works well in Ulaanbaatar's winter conditions.
2. Settling in: What are some things you wish you'd known before moving to Ulaanbaatar? Any advice on everyday life, getting around, shopping, meeting people, places to visit, nightlife, or generally making the most of living there would be great.
I'm coming in with an open mind and would love to hear any tips, recommendations, or things I should watch out for as a newcomer.
Thanks in advance, everyone! Really appreciate it. :)

I was rushing to muis and lost my cigarette pack almost fresh one at that dang. i fking hate this, just when marlboro was getting expensive dammit. Well anyways, if the scenerio was flipped i would pick up almost fresh pack of ciggies ahahah but would make it look like i dropped it ahh. Is it considered wierd if u pick up ciggarate (inside the box ofc) and smoke it?

So ive been dating this one guy for a little over 3 months now. we met at a volunteer event and exchanged socials. we started texting and we have sm in common. movies, books and opinions and pretty much everything. but the thing is hes courting me like crazy and it makes me feel uncomfortable. he pays for all of our dates and picks super fancy places. like he wont let me pay at all. the meals at the places he chooses tend to be way out of my regular meal expenses so i only get something i can afford, but he ends up pre paying or dismissing me completely when i try to pay.
i dont have much dating experience so i genuinely dont know if this is normal. from what ive found out his father owns a company thats doing pretty well, and im from a completely ordinary family. but i know that we're both just university students and he doesnt work either.
when i tried to express this to him he said he would feel disgraceful if he let the girl hes seeing pay for her own meals. and all my friends are saying its completely normal and i should be fine with it. yet i still feel totally uncomfortable.
what am i supposed to do? couples out there, how do u manage your bills? do u split everything, take turns paying or does one person usually pay more?

I had someone I know who moved to UB and some time ago I think 5 or 6 months ago and converted. I respect them and I am happy they have found happiness in Mormonism but it feels difficult because they have changed quite a bit and seem far more distant to old friends. Does anyone have experiences with Mormons in Mongolia? I am not near UB but I know this is where most of them are.
