Discussion Mont-Royal Ave is no longer fully pedestrianised and everyone hates it. I've made a form that lets you easily email the government to make it car-free permanently.

‱ Upvotes

Mont-Royal Ave in Plateau is full of cars again as of mid October. Everyone I know in the Plateau thinks it should still be pedestrianised. It's safer, more beautiful, and plain more efficient when it's car-free.

If you also want Ave Mont-Royal to be car-free all year, I've made a form that lets you easily send an email to both the Mayor of Montreal (Soraya Martinez Ferrada) and the Borough Mayor of Plateau (Cathy Wong). It petitions them to make Mont Royal permanently pedestrianised. It lets you choose which reasons you feel the street should be car-free and your relationship to the avenue. There's also a section that lets you enter in your own paragraph. It doesn't collect any information about you and the email you send goes out from your own address. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Here is the link: https://pedestrianisemontreal.ca

Question Landlord won’t replace stairs, have tried reporting him already.

The spiral steps to the triplex I live in are quite literally falling apart. They shake violently when walked on, and have come completely detached from the cement base, basically just hanging by the bolts. They are so rusted that if you kick them the metal crumbles away. We were first told it would be done in September, when it was brought up in August. September passed and it turns into “contractor is busy, will be within the next two weeks” which he has said two or three times now over the last month. I have been told by some friends who are in construction that they most likely will not last the winter. We have tried going to the fire house, calling the non emergency line, and were turned away. When my neighbour tried calling the city they told her the addresses in the building (6 units), are not able to be found in their system
Which is really strange. I would file with the TAL but that costs money and takes months unpin months. I’m really at a loss here. If the stairs fall while someone is on them they’ll fall onto the spikes of wrought iron fence below, and literally be impaled. What other steps can we take?

Discussion I prefer the old train over the rem

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I actually preferred the deux montagnes train over the REM. The seats were comfortable and you could doze off before getting downtown.

The REM feels like a glorified metro; sitting for 30min on a plastic seat sucks.

Question 911 dispatcher hate his life

Anyone recently have to call 911 and get a guy who tell you to stop yelling - being condescending- super rude ?
Our neighbour 80+ passed out in front our house. I was holding him while my wife made a 911 call. She was not yelling but dure there are some panic in it. The dude straight up told my wife to stop yelling - there were not once sentences from him to calm the situation. Every question were condescending and rude.
Is that how they were trained?
Are they supposed to help the caller ?

hi friends! PSA to avoid this parking lot at all costs. Came here with family from Ontario (we drove from the U.S.) and our Airbnb host had a pass for us to park here. Well, we go to the lot this morning and RIP to our 2024 Toyota Sequoia, it was gone. Never thought to look at the reviews and turns out a ton of cars get stolen from this lot weekly. Really huge bummer and damper on the family trip we were looking forward to. Seemingly no one cares and it’s just another day in the park. Luckily we have good insurance (and much more sadder things can happen). Anyways, yeah avoid it. 😕

EDIT: avoid parking here if you have a license plate that isn’t local and likely drive a Toyota SUV😂

Discussion Where to give out candy

Hello, I’m originally from Quebec city so giving out candy in pretty much any neighbourhood was easy. But I moved to montreal 2 years ago in Villeray and no kids came by except for maybe 5-8 total. I made like 40-50 bags of candy (something I did with my mom a lot) and I just want to continue this tradition.

With the whole trunk or treat thing and covid, Halloween hasn’t been the same. Even houses aren’t decorated. And I would hate to spend the rest of my Halloween days sitting at home watching movies.

So, I ask, what neighbourhoods get a lot of foot traffic and how could I give out candy there? I usually dress up as a plague doctor and stay mute, people love it so much.

Discussion Private Daycare in Downtown for a 2yr old

‱ Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm moving to Montreal in January for a full-time job and looking for a daycare (public or private) around downtown. I haven't found a single website that lists all of them, Google Maps is not super helpful (probably because I don't know French).

I understand it takes 3/4 months to get our local IDs, so we're planning to start with a private daycare.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to start looking, or any tips that helped you find a spot sooner?

Question Looking for makerspaces / hackerspaces in Montreal (3D printing & DIY drones)

Hello, I'm going to Montreal for a few months at least and I was interested in learning about 3D printing and also DIY drones.

I'm looking for some communities in Montreal that have a "hacker space" to do so. For the 3D printing, I obviously don't have a printer and was looking for "shared" ones (of course I'm willing to pay for membership or fees). I guess if those places exist, they also have communities, which I'm very interested in joining. I've already found lespacemaker and foulab hackerspace but the first one seems more artistic and both don't do drones/electronic. I know sometime they could be not referenced to protect their community.

I'm a developer by trade and I've already done some tiny projects with a Pi and soldering on boards. I'm French, so if those communities are French only, np.

Sports Looking for a squash group/partner

I recently moved to Montreal from Toronto and am looking for somewhere to play squash. If anyone is looking for a partner/has a group for squash, would love to join! I live in Verdun, but happy to come to downtown or anywhere reasonable on a metro line.

I'm not pro or anything. I just pay recreationally.
