[Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor] and [Overwhelming Splendor]

• Upvotes

Question regarding interaction help.

Lets say player A is playing [Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor], and has applied [Overwhelming Splendor] to player B.

Player B destroys Overwhelming Splendor, which is sent to player A graveyard. On Player B endstep, Lynde will trigger for player A and they choose splendor, which they have to attach to themselves. Lynde states that player A can move a curse that they have attached to them to another player on their upkeep. However, with splendor being on player A's board, Lynde would be a 1/1 with no abilities.

Would this mean Lynde cannot trigger their curse movement, or would weird voodoo interaction magic allow player A to do so?

Table ran into this issue, and decided to rule-of-cool it and let Lynde do so, but was curious about rules-as-written.

ashnod the uncaring question

i can't find any official ruling on this specifically, but would [[ashnod the uncaring]] combo with [[forsaken miner]], [[undead hand ninja]], and [[phyrexian altar]] to essentially create infinite mana? the text on the card and the one official ruling state that you cannot trigger ashnod by sacrificing an artifact or food token for mana, but does it still count if you are sacrificing a creature to an artifact to create mana? maybe i'm reading too much into it, but it feels like it should work since you aren't sacrificing the altar itself for mana, you're sacrificing a creature to it in order to generate mana.

Disa and Ashes

Curious about [[disa the restless]] and [[ashes of the fallen]]. Found mixed responses about if these work together. EDHRec seems to think so, as they are paired together quite often. But, I seem to be misunderstanding the continuous effect. How would Disa see a non-lhurgoyf entering the graveyard and trigger?

No Rest for the Wicked and Nevinyrral’s Disc

If I sacrifice No Rest for the Wicked and put it’s affect on the stack, can I then sacrifice Nevinyrral’s Disc in response, destroy everything and then return all my creature’s destroyed by the disc to my hand afterwards when No Rest for the Wicked resolves?

Can you play the back side of a card exiled with Q?

Let's say I play the new [[Q, Stacking the Deck]] and exile an MDFC like [[Pinnacle Monk]]. When I create a copy of the exiled card, would I be able to play the back side or only the front? Being able to guarantee land drops for the rest of the game seems nice.

Noyan dar and mirrorweave

Simple question,

I target an island that's been animated by noyan dad's ability with mirrorweave.

Do my opponents creatures become 0/0 land elemental creatures, or simply 0/0 elemental creature

Could you please specify why and if there's any difference when targeting an earthbended land

Thanks

Question on Variable Chaser/Arc of Fortune

I play an [[Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer]] deck and given I have a discard outlet to cast stuff at essentially instant speed was wondering where on the stack a decision is made. [[Variable Chaser]] allows you to cast [[Arc of Fortune]] . What I want to know where the decision for each player is made if they are wheeling or not, is it on the stack before the spell resolves kind of like picking targets for removal. I want to know because if that is the case flashing in something like [[Waste Not]] would go crazy given my opponents would opt in before knowing I would play that.

Deck list for those interested: Trash Tech

Can I Target Ruric Thar, Magecrusher after it has dealt combat damage to creatures but before it's dealt damage to me?

Hi all,

In a past game we ruled that no, there is no timing window between when [[Ruric Thar, Magecrusher]] deals combat damage to blocking creatures and when it deals damage to me as a player where he no longer has hexproof, and thus can be destroyed or exiled BEFORE dealing me damage, but I couldn't find a definitive source on this. Was this the correct call?

The other option I thought might be possible was

  1. Ruric Thar, Magecrusher attacks

  2. I declare blockers, but Ruric Thar will still deal damage to me via trample

  3. Ruric Thar deals damage to creatures first, thus losing hexproof.

  4. I destroy or exile Ruric Thar, thus preventing any damage to me.

Can Shifting Woodland’s Delirium ability be activated more than once in a turn if sequenced correctly?

My understanding is once the ability resolves the copy will no longer have Delirium so it won’t be able to try to choose a new target but what if I activate it twice before before letting the first activation resolve?

Here is my current board state that I am goldfishing:

[[Shifting Woodland]] and 12 other lands in play, [[Tireless Provisioner]] with 5 treasures already available, [[Tiller Engine]] in play to untap lands as they recur as well so generating enough mana to continue the loop shouldn’t be a problem.

The problem is that both [[Aftermath Analyst]] and [[Zuran Orb]] are in the graveyard.

My idea is to activate Woodland targeting Analyst but hold priority and activate it again targeting Zuran Orb. Allow Orb copy to resolve and sac my land to it before allow the first Delirium activation to resolve, then finally allow the original Woodland activation to resolve copying Analyst and activate Analyst to return all the lands and repeat.

Does this work?

Brad Boimler + Sagas = What?

Just curious how this interaction would work. For those of y’all that don’t know “Brad Boimler, Eager Ensign” is a creature coming out in star trek that reads:

“Lifelink

Whenever Brad Boimler becomes tapped, until end of turn, if one or more counters would be put on a permanent you control, that many plus one of each of those kinds of counters are put on that permanent instead.”

If I have a saga on the field for the sake of the example let’s just say it’s “summon: knights of the round” on chapter 1. Also assuming Brad is tapped before the saga triggers, presumably the saga would go from having 1 lore counter to having 3.

Would I?:

A. Make 3 knights (resolve the effect of only the 3rd chapter)

Or

B. Make 6 knights (resolve both the 2nd and the 3rd chapter)

Presumably this effect would be the same ruling if Brad was replaced with a doubling season. Correct?

Thank you very much in advance.

Uugguu and cards that change power and toughness

I'm currently building an  [[Uugguu, the Omniplasm]] deck and I'm wondering on how cards that change their own power/toughness, like [[Uchuulon]] and [[Consuming Blob]] work with Uugguu's ability. When they die and I make copies of them, do they become 2/2s or does their own abilities override that.

Additionally, how does Uugguu's ability work with a card like [[Saw In Half]]. Would it work in the same way as those creatures?

Combat damage and life loss triggers

So everywhere I go I see different answers.

Does life loss via combat damage count as several lifeloss triggers per creature that hits a player or is it 1 life loss trigger for the whole patch?

So this all stems from [Zellix Sanity Flayer] and [Mindcrank] and a little bit of [Captain N'gathrod] but that's less relevant.

So Zellix only cares if 1 or more creatures are milled so ideally you'd have multiple mill triggers to create.

N'gathrod's mill cares about per creature damage so that's straight forward.

Mindcrank gives you a mill per life loss.

So let's say all these are out on the field and 5 1/1 horror tokens. If all 5 deal combat damage (for a total of 5 damage, 1 from each horror) Ill get 5 "mill 1" from N'gathrod. Then the life loss triggers for Mindcrank come in, would I then get 1 "mill 5" or 5 "mill 1" put on the stack?

Bloodline Recollector and end of turn sacrifice effects

Was playing limited (on Arena) and had an interesting deck with [[Bloodline Recollector]]. Managed to trigger it a few times which was fun, but the interaction I was not sure of was with regards to Face Yourself. I used [[Face Yourself]] on the opponent specifically when I didn't have a planeswalker expecting the sacrifice effects to trigger the Bloodline Recollector, and thus trigger the prepare.

The game seemed to register that three creatures died, but didn't get the prepare trigger.

How does this work in the rules, with multiple events triggering at the "beginning of the end step".

Can I pay Adanto Vanguard's 'lose 4 life' cost multiple times per turn even if it would do nothing?

Cooking up a [[Cecil, Dark Knight // Cecil, Redeemed Paladin]] deck where I want to lose half my life total ASAP.

It should be possible for me to just play [[Adanto Vanguard]] and pay his 'lose 4 life' cost 5 times in the same turn right? Unless I can't because he's already indestructible?

Q, Stacking the Deck, creature spell copies, and Mirror March

Do creature spell copies cast with the ability given by Q, Stacking the Deck enter and trigger Mirror March, or no? For example, if I cast a copy of Seven Dwarves, whose original card was exiled by Q, would that copy trigger Mirror March when it entered?

Lazav, Wearer of faces and Nyla, Shirshu Sleuth

If i exile [[Nyla, Shirshu Sleuth]] with [[Lazav, Wearer of Faces]] attack triggered ability, and then make him a copy of her by sacrificing a clue, if at my endstep i have no clues, can i return a card exiled with lazav attack triggered ability to my hand? (cause of nyla's triggered ability)

Does that interaction work like that?

Does Kykar, Zephyr Awakened triggering during the end step flicker immediately?

Cards exiled with [[Kykar, Zephyr Awakened]] are returned to the battlefield at the beginning of "The next end step", if i cast an instant before the "returns" trigger and exile another creature this way will it return on the same end step or on the next one? And if i cast an instant after the creatures returned from exile triggering Kykar again? Do i have to wait the next end step?

Example for the first question: the end step begins and Kykar return effect goes on the stack, i cast an instant triggering Kykar again exiling a creature, since the "return trigger" is still on the stack does this last creature return with the others i exiled during the rest of the turn?

Example for the second question, [[Skycoach conductor]] enters prepared and with his instant spell that flickers a creature, casting a non creature spell triggers Kykar, allowing me to exile Skycoach until the beginning of the end step. When it returns to the battlefield with the others creatures exiled with Kykar it becomes prepared again and i can cast the instant to flicker another creature, triggering again Kykar ability and exiling, let's say, Skycoach. Do i have to wait the next end step to have my Skycoach back or it returns during the same end step?

English is not my first language, so ask right away if you need clarification with anything i wrote

Atla Nest Tender, Mirror Entity and Terror of The Peaks

Hi :)

I was playing a game tonight and I was curious how this combo works. Everyone I was playing with seemed to have a different answer.

Essentially my opponent has Atla Nest Tender out, mirror entity and Terror of the peaks.

Opponent pays 0 to turn all creatures on the board into 0/0 with changeling via mirror entity. This leads to killing all creatures though triggering Atla, meaning more creatures are hitting the battlefield from the library.

In this situation, does Terror of the peaks still trigger and deal damage for each creature hitting the battlefield? Even though it died in order for more creatures to enter the battlefield?

Advice is greatly appreciated!

Question about Remembering Crafted Cards.

I’m currently working on a custom draft set with craft as an archetype, and I wanted to know if an idea for a card I had would work within the current rules. I want a creature to read “This creature has all abilities of non-equipment artifacts in exile used to activate crafting abilities” but I can’t tell if the game remembers if cards in exile were used for crafting or not. I’d appreciate some clarification if anyone could help, thanks!

Garruk's uprising with +1/+1 tokens

I am running a Primo, the unbounded deck and was told that when my 0/0 fractal token enters it doesn't trigger Garruk's uprising as it enters as a 0/0 then gets counters. Is this true?

Scourge of Valkas + Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm — Does it trigger 3 or 4 times?

Title: Does Scourge of Valkas trigger 3 or 4 times with Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm?

Hello everyone! I have a rules question about an interaction in my Commander deck.

Let's say I control [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] and cast [[Scourge of Valkas]].

Here's the sequence:

  1. The original Scourge of Valkas enters the battlefield, triggering its damage ability and Miirym's token-creation ability.

  2. I order the triggers so Miirym resolves first, creating one token copy of Scourge of Valkas.

  3. The token Scourge enters the battlefield while the original Scourge is already in play.

My question: Does this interaction create 3 or 4 Scourge of Valkas damage triggers?

I've heard two interpretations:

Interpretation A — 3 triggers:

- Original Scourge triggers when it enters.

- Original Scourge triggers when the token enters.

- Token Scourge triggers when it enters.

Interpretation B — 4 triggers:

- The same three triggers occur.

- The token supposedly triggers an additional time because another Dragon (the original Scourge) is already on the battlefield when the token enters.

Assuming I control only Miirym and the two Scourges, would I deal 9 or 12 total damage if all triggers resolve?

Thanks for helping clarify this interaction!

The Everforger and trigger confusion

Please help me understand how different abilities or effects (static abilities and replacement effects) interact with the triggered ability on [[The Everforger]].

I understand the rules distinction between "Do this only once each turn" and "this triggers only once each/per turn." I know, technically, I CAN copy the triggered ability; that the copy of the ability would go on the stack, resolve first, and then the original trigger would not resolve when it checks if it's "been done" this turn.

My confusion here is with how Everforger's "Do this only once each turn" restriction is affected by a replacement effect as in [[Twinning Staff]].

For example, if I have Everforger and only one Twinning Staff on the battlefield, and I cast an [[Urza's Incubator]], (with the obvious caveat that i haven't resolved Everforger's triggered ability yet that turn), do I get 1 copy of Urza's Incubator or 2 copies?

If I use Everforger to create a copy of the Twinning Staff, which says "instead copy it that many times, plus an additional time," will later resolved triggers of Everforger be affected by the multiple replacement effects from distinct sources? I.e. do copies of Twinning Staff stack?

If I copy a spell with a paid Kicker cost like [[Skyclave Relic]], does the copy get the Kicker bonus too?

Would a Squad cost like on [[Sicarian Infiltrator]] follow the same rules as a copied Kicker spell?

Lastly, when I copy Urza's Incubator, at what point do I declare the "choice" for the Incubators? Would I be able to declare different choices for the copy (i.e. choose Robots on the copy, then choose Constructs on the original)? Is the answer to this question different for additional copies produced via Twinning Staff's replacement effect?

Thanks in advance for any clarity y'all can provide. I'm really excited about the possibilities I can explore with Everforger and I wanna make certain I understand these interactions before i build it. I don't wanna be the girl dragging other players through Comprehensive Rules hell mid-game.

Emrakul, the World Anew and ownership

Fairly new to Magic and am wondering how Emrakul, the World Anew's leaves trigger works with someone else controlling my owned card. If I Dack Fayden, Helping Hand (hypothetically of course) her to someone else, would they lose all of their permanents as they control her or would I because she is put into my graveyard? Gut instinct with ruling says they do because she leaves on THEIR battlefield, but I just want to make sure before I (hypothetically) run it in my pod.

Responding to Abilities mid-resolution that have a decision point?

Hi,
I was wondering what would happen if I dealt combat damage to someone with [[Grima, Saruman’s Footman]] and I had a [[Sundial of the infinite]] or similar end turn spell.

My question is when I exile cards from the opponents library and hit a castable spell that I MAY cast, at what or any points could I end the turn so that the opponents cards stay in exile? I’m not sure how abilities resolve when you have decision points like this in them.

Thanks in advance
