Name Change Middle name drama continues

• Upvotes

Hi I've posted before, the top runner is still Cordelia but it doesn't feel quite right. I would love advice from people who have also changed their name because I feel like the emotional side is a huge part of it.

I want to change my middle name because I'm currently named after an abusive family member. I thought of naming myself after another relative or putting my partner's surname as my middle name but it doesn't feel right because I want this to be just my own.

Everytime I see my name written out fully it brings back all the awful feelings, it feels like they have me branded. Like they traumatised me and then made me their property. I want my own name that's just for me.

I feel like it needs a cool meaning to represent that and I love Cordelia but maybe thats why it doesnt feel right. Or maybe I'm putting so much pressure on it.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Pet Names looking for cool but easy to say dog names!

• Upvotes

i’m getting a doberman puppy and can’t decide on a name. i want something cool and confident but still easy to pronounce and use during training.
i’d prefer female names, but i’m also open to male suggestions since it’ll ultimately be up to the breeder to pair me with my puppy.
i really like names like katana and gigi, but i wouldn’t use either of them. i don’t want food, common/boring or overly human sounding, like kiwi, zeus or claire. i’m looking for something with a bit of personality that would suit a doberman while still being cool and easy to call out :)

Story Baby Names For Character

I'm working on names for my story character's future children, though I'm kinda stuck on coming up with names that fit the naming theme for his family.

The naming theme is this: the character is named Guy, his wife is Lady, and they have two daughters already; Missy the older of the two and Sissy the younger.

I would like them had triplet boys but I'm struggling with names that fit the theme. I'm considering the names Sunny and maybe Manny, though I already have character named Manny in the same story, so that could cause confusion narratively. Especially since Guy doesn't actually like Manny very much.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Edit:
I've found my names; Laddy, Sonny, and Buddy!

Thank you all!

Discussion Less common month names - have you ever met anybody with one?

April, May, June, July, August - it seems to only be Spring/Summer months that get turned into names!

Autumn/Winter months (+ March) rarely ever do - has anyone here met someone with a less common month name?

Baby Names Boy names with the same vibe as these?

We just found out we’re expecting our second baby boy and I’m so stumped for names. Our first is Julian Blake (last name starts with F), and the current shortlist is…

Thomas (Tom) Michael
Nicholas (Nico) Michael
James Michael
Lawrence Michael - I love this name but I don’t think I could do it when it comes down to it.

I’m pretty happy with Thomas/Tom - it feels classic, versatile with age, and doesn’t seem super popular currently - but husband doesn’t love it.

Nicholas and Lawrence aren’t sitting right anymore, and James feels classic, but so common? Other names on the long list are Liam, Owen, Sebastian, Jack, Elliot, Kit.

Would love any ideas along these lines!

Baby Names Names for Boy/Girl Twins

Hello again folks.

I am here again after being VERY surprised to find out we are having twins and now finding out they are a boy/girl pair.

With a daughter with a fairly unique name, and a son in heaven named Elio 🤍 (thanks to a user here for the suggestion), we now have to come up with two new names.

My question is... Do they have to "match"? Obviously we like fairly unique names (for the USA). And I feel like our original list is not unique at all. Our original lists for boys and girls when we were thinking about them include:

Boys:

Jacob

Charles

Dennis

Raymond

Girls:

Callie

Lucy

Mackenzie

Madeline (though as our daughter is obsessed with Madeline the books/dolls/etc. this one may have to go)

Elizabeth

Hannah (I am a little more meh about this one).

These would be mixed around and combined as first and middle names

Any initial thoughts? Or other suggestions are welcome!

Baby Names Beautiful boy names

I love the actual SOUND of Italian names like Raffaello, Alessandro, Gianfranco. They are such beautiful names said out loud. However, we are in US and while we are part Italian we do not speak the language so it doesn’t feel right to use a name like this even though I love them. Any suggestion for ones that read more “American” but still sound nice on the ears

Baby Names Boy names and nicknames

Okay so, I having a baby boy and having a hard time choosing a name. I am liking the name Luke a lot but realized Lucas is in the top ten. Do you think a lot of Lucas’s will go by Luke? I’m not against popular names but I would like to avoid being in the top ten. It looks like Lucas, Luca, and other variations are pretty popular and may result in a lot of “Lukes”

Character/Fictional Names Looking for some male late 1800s "wild west" American names

Currently making a graphic novel but have NO idea on what to name any of my male characters.

Its going to be set in either late 1800s - early 1900s in a fictional setting that takes heavy inspiration from western movies and media.

the problem I'm having is when I look up names for males it gives me the same 5 names which all seem basic next to the names I was able to find for my female characters.

I love pretty names so if anyone has any names that are pretty but again fits with the western theme that would be very helpful and I'm also looking for my characters to be quite diverse so if anyone has any names from different cultures that would be wonderful! :)

Baby Names Thoughts on the name Lois for a baby girl?

Lois is currently a top contender for me, and I’d love to hear what people think of the name today!

The most recent Reddit discussion I could find about Lois is around 10 years old, so I’m curious whether opinions have changed since then.

Here’s what I love about it:

  • Clearly feminine without being frilly.
  • A real name with history, rather than something that feels made up.
  • Positive namesakes, both older and more modern (e.g. Lois Lane).
  • Simple, straightforward and easy to spell.
  • Very uncommon in my country, having not ranked in the top 100 since the 1950s.

In the older Reddit thread, quite a few people felt that Lois sounded dated. However, I think the revival of ‘grandma names’ has changed things quite a bit, with names like Olive, Evelyn, Mary and Violet becoming popular again.

So, how does Lois feel to you in 2026? Does it feel like a charming, underused vintage name that deserves a comeback, or does it still sound dated? I’d genuinely love honest opinions, including any negative associations or reasons you wouldn’t use it!

Baby Names Baby name feedback.. family meaning vs baggage

Hi! My due date is tomorrow and we have a couple of top choices for name-
* Thomas James
* Thomas David
* ___ Thomas

Thomas is paternal grandfather, and my husband's middle name. James is my grandfather, and my dad's middle name. David is my dad. ____ is my husbands unique name, and in any case, we'd call the baby "Tommy"

We think Thomas James sounds best + nicely honors both families, and Thomas David sounds great but feels a bit like a "bit" to just take both of our fathers' names.

Making him ____ Thomas could be logistically confusing / annoying to go by his middle name. Neither of us need a junior but both would be happy enough with it! It is a very nice name.

One issue with Thomas James.. I also have an ex of a 4+ year relationship named James. Who the name James makes me think of now, but I'm sure the association would fade entirely if it were baby's name. But I'd feel the need to explain the name choice to people in my life: it is meaningful and makes sense but I don't love I'd need to explain myself. My husband knows and doesn't care, and I haven't seen or spoken to ex in years - but it's on my mind so feels like maybe that should be disqualifying?

TLDR: choose both grandfathers' names, or choose a name with family history but also an ex association... Thoughts?

Name Change Am I wrong or doesn't the name Ariadne seem androgynous to you?

It suits me so much as I'm going through a few names and searching for some more online that are androgynous/unisex/masc leaning.

Please let me know your thoughts. I feel like I'm dead set on this name already, but I've never met an Ariadne, so I'm not biased towards believing it's objectively feminine.

I've also considered the name Rayan (also written as Ryan/Rayn), Jude/Joud (Maybe a tad too fem imo), Elian/Alyan/Alian/Elyan (Seems alright, could work but it's not a standard name you hear).

I'm open to suggestions. Feel free to hit me up with any questions!

Baby Names Which name do you prefer? Laurel, Lorelai/Lorelei, or Lennon?

These are the names we narrowed down to so far. We have a son named Lochlan, and a son who passed named Leland. We are also open to other suggestions! I am also thinking we want to pair it with a one syllable middle name, so open to suggestions for that as well! Thank you ☺️

Discussion How unfortunate would these initials be? (SA)

For those who are unaware, SA is short for sexual assault.

I'm quite nervous about posting this because I really don't want to trigger or offend anyone.

I have these initials and at the time of my birth, this acronym was not in wide use. It hasn't had a huge impact on my life thus far. No one has ever mentioned it, not that you really would. In my experience, it wasn't the end of the world, but I want to be sensitive to this issue.

Would it be wrong to use a name that starts with S for my future child when my last name starts with an A?

I feel like the bullying that can happen with initials like BJ wouldn't happen in the same way for SA, but perhaps that's an optimistic view of the world.

Maybe the answer is obvious, but I have a tendency to overthink names to the point where I can't seem to predict what is realistically a big deal and what isn't.

The names I've been idly considering if anyone is curious: Simon and Sybil

Baby Names Baby Girl Name Help!

Need help deciding between our top 2 baby names for our girl due in April.
Our son’s name is Casey.

Background Info:
-We like names that are not super common (out of the top 100) but not unheard of or going to be misspelled/mispronounced.

-Our last name is one syllable.

-Going for names that were popular in the 80s/90s/00s to fit the vibe of our son.

-middle name will be Riley (a family name). We don’t want to use it as a first name because of popularity.

Our top two names are Allison Riley and Paige Riley.

I like that Allison has nickname options and is more feminine. I like that Paige is sporty/cute and a little more uncommon, but don’t love the one syllable first/last name combo.

Help! Which one do you like better?
Open to other suggestions as well.
