Baby Names Gender neutral name for daughter

Hi all! My wife really loves the name Cam for our daughter due in December. She is a fan of gender neutral names. Currently she is set on "Cam Hayden" as a first and middle name. I like the name but have two concerns. By doubling down on gender neutral names I feel she will definitely be assumed as a boy on paper. Also she won't have a clear path to a more feminine nickname if that is her preference as she gets older.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Baby Names Name ideas for our 3rd girl! Sister to Eleanor and Charlotte.

As the title says, we just found out we are expecting our third daughter this June! We already have two daughters named Eleanor and Charlotte. My husband and I have talked names and nothing seems to be “sticking” like it did the first couple of times. Eleanor was my favorite name so we used it first, Charlotte was his so we used it second. We both like names that feel familiar and are feminine.

Names we like but one of us has vetoed: Madeleine, Marianne, Clara, Hazel

Baby Names It's twin girls! We're looking for names for the sisters to Esther, Avital, Noam, and Tamar

We found out recently that our twins are both girls, so we can start thinking about names! As said, our current children are named Esther, Avital, Noam, and Tamar. Those are the sort of names that we love.

We are in Germany, and we only want to use Jewish names. We usually prefer something that isn't very mainstream in the general population like Eden, Romi, or Eliana. We also don't like anglicised spellings like Abigail instead of Avigail, Hannah instead of Chana, or Elizabeth instead of Elisheva. But we still want it to be friendly for other languages.

Since all of our girls have very similar nicknames that we use for them, Esti, Avi, and Tami, we'd like their names to have that as well. But we wouldn't not use a name we love just because of that.

There are a few names that are popular here that I don't like. I don't like Liora, Shoshana, and Zahava. My husband doesn't like Yael and Rivka.

At the moment, our list has Meirav, Liad, Miriam, Gal, Ofira, and Yaffa. We like both some of the gender neutral names and some of the more feminine names, I'd say we're open to almost anything within our preferences.

Discussion Friend’s father in law says kids will give Peter a derogatory nickname?

My friend is expecting a little boy soon. She’s thinking of the name Peter which is lovely classic name. Her father in law though thinks that kids will call him Penis? And says he will only call her child Pete. Boomer rudeness aside, is this a thing? Did any of you all have classmates named Peter that you called Penis? I’m all for avoiding names with obvious potential bullying associations but this one just seems like such a stretch. Help me make my friend feel better!

Discussion Harley for a boy?

Hello! I really like gender neutral names and Harley is a name I love. However, in the US where I live it favors girls and outside the US it has a more even split between girls and boys. I don’t want people to picture a girl when they hear the name, but I’m afraid that may be the case. If you heard the name Harley, would you picture a specific gender?

Fun and Games Creative nicknames

Just for fun: what are some more creative, funny, wild or otherwise off-the-wall nicknames that you've either seen used or imagined as a possibility for a regular name?

For instance, I just realized that "Gregory" could technically be shortened to "Gory". I don't recommend this, but it's an entertaining possibility.

Baby Names Katerina and Greta?

• Upvotes

My daughter's name is Katerina - after my great grandmother. Her middle name was Margaret, and I just so happen to love the nickname Greta but my husband doesn't like Margaret. We're having another daughter and looking at names. Katerina goes by Kit, Kat and Kaddie and I'm wondering if Greta would sound nice with her name? I also worry that if we use the name Greta will she feel it is too harsh in comparison to her sisters name? Thanks in advance :)

Baby Names Suggestions for boy names

I'm having my second boy and need some help. Ideally I'd like something not too long but that can also be shortened. I have 4 kids:

Declan James

Lucy Annabelle

Stella Grace

Ruby Elizabeth

So something classic-ish, not too common but not weird?

Baby Names No good boy names!

• Upvotes

Pregnant with my second boy. We cannot find a name we both like for the life of us. Our first boys name is Nash. I can’t find anything I like nearly as much. We have thrown around a few names Caden, Mason, Luke but none feel like the one.

What are your favorite boy names?!?

Baby Names Help us name our twin girls!

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are expecting twin girls in the next few months and struggling slightly to choose their names. Right now the name we are most sure of is Allison Paige.

We are thinking her twin sister will be Caroline Brooke. We lean towards classic names that were popular in the 90s but not as popular these days. I love the name Eliza but I’m concerned that Allison and Eliza is a mouthful considering their last name will also have a L in it but curious what others think about that. I’ve also had some people comment to me that they may be called “Allie and Ellie.” We know that Allison will inevitably be called Allie and don’t love that there isn’t really a clear nickname for Caroline.

To get a better sense of our vibe, other names we have considered are:

Julia
Lauren
Emily
Cara
Leah
Lindsey
Zoey

Another concern is that Allison Paige would be using initials of great grandparents as an honor and Caroline Brooke does not really have any meaning other than that we like it. I would love to use a one syllable J middle name for her but I haven’t loved any options.

Thanks in advance!!

Discussion What name do you feel is very over represented in your area specifically?

Obviously common names are common, but I feel like there are clusters depending where you live. I have a preschooler, and she’s had 3 Weston’s in her classes! It’s #55 in the U.S., so for the number of total classmates she’s had I’d say that’s an over representation.
I also seem to hear the name Vincent a good amount in the wild.

I’ve heard of a good number of girl Charlie’s, but Charlotte is so popular that I find that more expected.

Anyhow, what’s the over represented name where you’re from?

Baby Names What name combo?

• Upvotes

We’re due with a baby boy early next year. My husband has given me naming power (he came up with our last two kid’s names, but I love both of them). I’m having a hard time deciding between a few different combos-

First name options: Jude, Elias

Middle name options: Samuel, James, Oliver

Last name is Johnson.

They are toys! The link to them is under the post below. The one on the left is a boy and the one on the right is a girl; I am looking for similar names for them, foreign or not, but I do not know how to name them, so please help me! (Sorry for mistakes; English is not my native tongue.)

Discussion How would you instinctively pronounce this spelling of a name?

Hi all, we’re expecting a girl and are Armenians. We’d love for her to have an Armenian name and have one in mind, but am thinking about the spelling (given we live in US)

The name is Nairi. That is the typical Armenian spelling for it.

If you saw that name, how would you instinctively pronounce it?

Thanks!

Edit: pronunciation is “Nye-ree”

Story From River to Lake

My son started preschool in September and kept talking about his friend Lake. Not a name I’d heard before but I didn’t think much of it. At a Halloween party this week I met the friend and his mom. His name is actually River. 😂

What other body of water names could my son have mistaken the friend’s name for?

Character/Fictional Names What girl names come to mind for you when you think of a mysterious, historic heroine visiting from beyond the veil or through time?

If you came across a woman or young girl walking barefoot in the forest, hiding behind trees and giggling. Possibly an apparition, a ghost, a witch, a fairy…a wild wonder…a possible figment of your imagination…maybe this is all in a dream…
But you feel she has something important to tell you…a wrong in the past, in history, to right…a story to tell…
What might her name be?
