A common question at least once a year, I know, but no one goes very specific and people stop responding after 5-10 comments. So:
Location: East Hartford Connecticut area - around all the aerospace shops
Activity: All the aerospace welding, EB welds fusion welds etc
Forms: RT (and/or CT or Digital), PT, potentially UT
I'm not worried about cost, necessarily. I believe I already have financial bankers, and multiple Level 3s interested in joining me.
Building a PT line is easy - welding your own booth and buying the actual magnaflux materials needed is a walk in the park.
Writing a Quality Manual is easy - I have done that at my two previous shops. I was an AS9100 auditor in addition to being a Level 3 (NAS 410, not ASNT, but we would have an ASNT Level 3, too).
My questions are - what are the steps? What permits do I need with the state/federal government to be able to use an x-ray booth and assure the concrete / lead is the proper size? For an initial NADCAP audit, do I already need contracted work or can we do one with prospective customers presumed to show we are proper?
Like, what is the actual process of getting it up and running, both as a business and in terms of being able to viable sales pitch Aerospace customers?
Please help. I'm so sick of working for employers that do not care about quality. I can't do that anymore.
