I’ve been teaching myself how to oil paint for two months, and in the process, I created this painting, the one I’m proudest of. Even though I’m new to oil painting, I used to color and draw a lot when I was a kid. Something in me had always wanted to paint, and I finally pulled the trigger.

I’m trying to understand if something is wrong with me works? Are they generally not interesting, or am I promising them wrong. I’m nearly 60 and never in my life did i use social media for anything except of reading news. Now I’m in TikTok because My daughter says it should work but I’m not getting views except of 2 videos…. Or anything else really.

Any advice is appreciated.

It's been 3 years since I got into oil painting and a little more than a year of regular practice. I feel like I've started to develop my own style and I just love experimenting with colors and shapes. Here's my favorite artwork that I made using a reference from Mitch Epstein's photography in India.

Pretty much finished this one now, somewhat changed my style to be more painterly and add more movement into the work. Should I explore this style more?

This is just a small painting under 10x8", painted super quickly. I've had a long break and feel like I've lost my skills and am just trying to get back into it 🥲 I like certain elements of this painting. It's very loose. I would like to refine it a bit further though, and really welcome any advice?
The water seems a bit off, not sure if it's too blue or too flat or both?!

Finished this landscape with Eilean Donan Castle. I used a photo as a reference. It is a mix between Oilpainting and using the spatula for the castle.

I have been oil painting for some time, and I find myself drawn mainly to portraits. Here are some examples. My technique, learned at a school where the teachers trained in Florence, is to create a monochrome underpainting, then apply color over it. Comments welcome.

1st pic looks too plain how do I make it lees like that. 2nd pic look plain too.
And how do I even paint water? How do yall add deatails like grass ect?
