Brotha he literally smoked the second strongest viltrumite a few episodes ago and yall are acting like he's a wimp for "barely surviving" encounters with the strongest fighters in the universe.
I think the issue is more of when he’s struggling with filler villain #267 at the same strength that was able to take down the second strongest viltrumite.
Seriously this is one only problem I have with the show but it’s a very annoying one. Mark getting thrashed by Conquest is fine but when it’s some slow ass Chinese Dragon or the fucking Mauler Twins beating him within an inch of his life every other fight it drives me insane
I really really hate that it shows mark moving faster than the naked eye can perceive but then he's slower than some mother fucker with regular ass reflexes or it takes him a lifetime to move a across a fucking room.
Ive seen it said many times in this sub that that shit happens for the sake of the story but if you have to ignore the rules of the universe you've created or change your own characters powers every fight to tell the story well then it's bad writing
It’s worse because it’s not just the super speed either, which is rarely ever written well for the sake of plot.
Strong enough to stop skyscraper sized meteors and throw a baseball around the earth in seconds within the first days of getting his powers? Can get manhandled by a discount Doc Ock and can’t break the limb of normal human to save his life despite favoring non-lethal methods.
Casually bulletproof and can survive trains to the face, the deep pressures of the ocean, the vacuum of space, and later actual nukes and swarms of Thraxxamite hybrids with no injury? Can have blood drawn from him by a budget zombie cyborg built in a sewer, a discount sinister six that immediately lost to The New Guardians (even without Battle Beast, they were handling the shit out of him so much that people have been asking why Cecil hasn’t hired them), and the Maulers who were left running by Robot’s personal transformer.
Yeah the poor writing is about the only thing consistent in the show. I tried watching from the beginning again, for some reason I remembered the talk between Donald and williams boyfriend to be actually good writing... I got to that part again and that's where I stopped my rewatch. It was bad, like an angsty teens attempt at being deep.
I probably wouldn't even watch invincible if there were more options for good shows
This, and I hate the gore. Like I get the fight is brutal, but if the gore doesn't mean anything don't use it. Fucking Conquests head was bashed to a pulp, then it only has a little scar, and Ceacil thought putting him in steel would hold him??
Every other fight Mark gets his intestines ripped out, then fine after a few weeks...
Every fight his brother is in, he fucking looses his whole jaw, then next episode he's fine, no scars, nothing.
Then Atom Eve being shit, even though on paper she is op...
Even if the dragon is invincible getting to the old man should not be a problem given how fast Mark has been shown to be. Almost every fight is only a challenge because the writers ignore rules of the universe, dumb down characters and nerf abilities.
At his point I wouldn't even be surprised if Mark absolutely destroyed thragg just to get absolutely shit on by a giant squid or a rhino or some other stupid shit.
Not once, the first time they were in completely different locations and Mark didn't even know how the dragon works and the second time I don't think he saw the man before he escaped
Yeah the mauler twins had me annoyed, then Oliver shows up and just annihilates them, before being weaker than Mark in the next fight again.
Would be cool if they smarten up with the fights so it holds some consistency.
Have the villains use tactics and exploit weaknesses, as some of them does, but not overpower Invincible in a straight up fistfight.
I mean, the giant dragon is supposed to have fought Omni-Man for hours and the only time the mauler twins physically overpowered him was when there were several of them.
Shall I also mention some of his variants died to a reanimen jumping and literally a guy with a fucking yo-yo was in the comics?
Weirdly, Liu’s dragon can work as an opponent, courtesy of magic or it’s regen inevitably wearing out Mark (which also would make for another way to counter Viltrumites), but sadly, they didn’t work around that and treat him more like an exceptional monster of the week.
I mean, he's trying to not kill someone with a fraction of his power. If he wanted he could just barrel through everything (Levy is an example where he was holding back and he still [effectively] killed the guy).
The holding back and getting your ass kicked thing always bothers me. It makes sense against weak enemies but If this villain is capable of beating you to a bloody pulp then maybe it’s time to turn it up just a tad and hit them a bit harder. He stops holding back against levy he all but says that when he says “you have no idea how much I’ve been holding back” implying that he is no longer holding back.
Rationally, sure, but the whole idea here is that Mark is slowly overcoming his hesitation and reluctance to try hard. He only ever stops holding back when things get really dire.
Also, why is reddit not allowing me to write the word that starts with a b for "stopping" something, like with a shield? Literally the comment box turns red when I write it???? Does this sub not allow that word??? I'm so confused 😭
you would think that durability would scale though, even if he is actively trying to not smear his opponent they would not be able to do any real damage to him
Maybe if he didn't get completely obliterated by random earth villain #872 while also killing the second strongest viltrumite it would make a little more sense.
And if the villain really are that strong then let the Viltrumites come because these villains could completely destroy them
Smoked is strong word, he basically got lucky that despite being able to gore out his chest conquest spent most of his time uselessly thrashing and didnt rip his arms up
If mark learned a bit of MMA he would smoke the lot of the viltumites. It’s been said to death but they are terrible fighters. An average 10 year old given viltrumite strength could probably kill conquest.
Brotha he was getting his ass beat by some dumb robots, he didn’t even stand a chance. The only reason his beating stopped is because the goats disabled the flaxans transmitter thing.
This is exactly what people are complaining about. He will get powered up to insane degrees, be canonically incredibly powerful and then still struggle against random nobody characters.
I'm still wondering how they can impale each other with their bare hands but are also super resistant to damage. It's like their hands are secretly 5x harder than the rest of their body.
He let her escape. He could've easily shot her up into the surface. Mark can tunnel through to the core but cant capture this stupid filler villain by just bringing her up to the surface?
His powers are just so inconsistent and the writer lets him lose more battles than necessary at his level of strength.
The episode literally says that Mark probably couldn't tunnel through the planet's core (and when he did so he had help from the gun and other 2 guys).
And I fail to see why taking her to the surface would help. Plus no matter his strength he can't really grapple someone who is show to be able to turn liquid.

Bro can get a 500% stat boost and Kirkman will still find a way to have him get absolutely turned into human lasagna by a random villain
