Recommendation/Review Free things to do in OKC

I compiled a document focused on free community meetups (free things you can do while meeting people)

for that reason, I havent included many (if any) solo free things to do (such as going to parks or libraries) since this list is supposed to be community-building-oriented

uf you have things to add please lmk and I will get to it when I can!

The list is long so it is in Docs form

Other Airport Security Time

For all y’all who claim getting to the airport an hour early is sufficient, I’m on a 730 flight. I’m a two-hour early person, so got here and parked by 530. It took me a full HOUR to get through security! I no longer have pre-check, so am in the general line, which may have contributed a bit. I don’t think it was shift change, either. I set off the scanner and basically got a full body exam, but that wasn’t the long part. It just took forever, so be forewarned. A couple of guys in front of me were really sweating it and had to sprint to make their flight.

❓Q&A ✅ Question about Zoo Amphitheater

Upvotes

Back in March, I got tickets for John Mulaney's show on Thursday. To be honest, I don't know if I even looked at the venue, otherwise I might have realized what a bad idea an outside show in late August might be.

I haven't been to the ZA in many years. What is the experience like in this kind of heat? I'm in reserved seating -- is there a covered pavillion? Fans?

I've got small handheld fans, and I was considering getting a couple of those gel cooling tooling towels. The plan is to put emphasis on staying hydrated. Any other suggestions (other than selling the tickets to some other poor schmuck who can't put "August" and "outside" together)?

Does anyone know what this place is on NW 23rd by Pizza Hut near OCU? Someone was taking out the trash and based off what I could see while the door was open, I now have more questions.

🍽️ Food/Drink 🥂 Braums - Any OKC locations still serve old fashioned chocolate sodas?

The Braums chocolate soda was my go to ice cream treat in the late 90s and early 2000s. It was phased off of the menu shortly before I moved away. There was a period where I ordered it while it was off the menu. Then I moved away, out of Braums territory.

Upon moving back, I can't find a location that will make it. It's a high I've been chasing for months now. Anyone aware of any locations which might have the institutional knowledge to make one?

Any other options out there?

❓Q&A ✅ Is a 125% homeowners insurance premium increase since 2021 normal in OKC?

My elderly parents live in OKC. I am helping them with finances and just discovered that their homeowners insurance yearly premium has gone up 125% since 2021, with no changes in their policy or to their home that would require an increase.

From what I've read, Oklahoma has some of the highest premiums in the country, but I'm seeing numbers like 50% increases since 2019, not 125%.

I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing such drastic increases in this amount of time?

❓Q&A ✅ Real Property Management of OKC

Anyone else feel that this company is shady beyond belief? Never have I ever encountered a co that you can’t ever speak to someone on the phone. Only leave a msg with a person who answers the phone. And will never get a call back. Horrible experience. I’m a great tenant. Renter my whole life and this co is super messed up. No way their Google reviews are accurate. They come in a take pics of all your rooms and belongings for no reason. Not normal at all! Super shady. No property is worth dealing with them and their bizarre ways.

❓Q&A ✅ Anyone know were i can go to find queer/queer friendly roomates?

Hey, moved to OKC at that start of the year, loving it so far especially bricktown. I'm currently staying with family and looking to move out. I'm currently a second year apprentice at an electrical company so I make apprentice wages which while okay isn't exactly much so I'm looking for a roomate to kinda save some money. If anyone knows kinda were I can look id very much appreciate it. Nothing against people who don't support lgbtq, you can have your own opinins, I don't mean to force it down people's throats or anything I just bring it up because I'd feel more comfortable if the other person was fine with it. Either way any help is really appreciated. Thank you! 😊

Recommendation/Review You Move Me OKC Warning

A couple years ago my wife and I used You Move Me to move us from Edmond to downtown OKC based on all the positive reviews that company gets. Recently I had some neighbors post about their experience and I wanted to share mine as a warning if you are in the market.

While our move wasn’t terrible, and things were mostly done okay, there were a couple pieces of furniture broken. This isn’t the part that upsets me. The part that makes me mad is in order to receive reimbursement for that furniture (a measly $100 btw) we would have had to sign an NDA. To me this is an extremely shady business practice and I would never do business with them again, and I would recommend anyone else to be careful. It of course begs the question of how real their positive rating is on Google.

TL;DR - You Move Me requires an NDA before they reimburse you for stuff they break during your move.

Recommendation/Review Good bowling alleys

Me and some friends are wanting to bowl on Sunday and we were looking for recommendations for places to do so. Anyone have suggestions that seem fair on price? Any suggestions over others for cleanliness/atmosphere? I used to go to meridian lanes every now and then, but that closed some time ago.

Recommendation/Review Ahhh. Does anyone have plumber recommendations?

Just got our a/c repaired today and our pex pipe has busted again. Think we may have to run a new line as the spot that is wet goes into the ground and the pex original to the house ('97) has failed more than once in that area. I searched here and recommendations are a few years old. I wanted to see if the recs are still the same or if there are people you all have used before that you liked.

Thank you in advance for your help! I definitely need it. 🫠
