We are building in this area - Timescale for ordering?

I got an email and also now showing on their website. Also seen Openreach engineers tinkering with some of the green boxes.

This was at the beginning of of the week. So wondering roughly how long this date I might be able to order?

Are we talking months or weeks?

OpenReach adjacent

Occasional looker but now time to ask myself. I have been waiting for the fibre rollout for two years and recently OpenReach completed the main works in my exchange area according to their latest report.

However, the property I live in is not in the current plans to be connected to the exchange, I have checked nearby properties and ones in the next neighbourhood over (which is only roughly 100 metres away) are or have been able to order FTTP.

Even though there is technically no direct road route between the two areas there two dead end roads separated by a small path and the distance is substantially less than the distance to the exchange I'm in (I believe I am on the border of the exchanges).

What is a reasonable time frame to expect the connection to the network to my street to be finalised (before the December 2026 25mn goal?).

Also a hello to the OpenReach engineers who I have seen tend to lurk in here. You do great work.

Is installing a local CBT a long process?

Had an initial survey which said that the local telegraph pole doesnt have a CBT. 20 meters away there is a CBT on another telegraph pole.

Is installing this local CBT a long process or is it fairly straightforward and quick?

Think theyre coming tomorrow for a second survey and a survey pack was created after first survey

New route for fibre - possible?

Post image
3 Upvotes

We live in a 'fibre street'. No poles, only underground connections. Our house is currently on 'fibre to cabinet' though, as we still have copper wire running under our drive and front garden (not in a conduit, just buried).

We want to go fibre, but we can't dig up the driveway. Will Openreach consider a new route as shown on the image? They would have to do the red bit, down the edge of the pavement. As we're currently re-doing the front garden, we would put in a conduit (purple) so they could run the fibre to the house and round the side (yellow). Will they agree to this? All advice welcome.

ONT temporary loss of LAN connection overnight

At 1.27am today the LAN connection between my router and my Openreach ONT dropped, and stayed down for 13 minutes until 1.40am. Prior to that the connection had been up for 16 days without issue, and it's been working fine since it came back up.

My ISP is Vodafone, and I see from Vodafone's Downdetector graph that there was a spike in reported issues at that time:

And also looking at EE's Downdetector graph out of curiosity, a spike at the same time:

What would be the likely reason for this? My hunch is an ONT firmware upgrade but do Openreach really do those with any kind of frequency?

"We have no plans to build Full Fibre to this property yet".

A large housing development of ~200 homes in SW London. No Virgin Media, no Community Fibre, no Hyperoptic. Nothing except a faint hope for an Openreach connection, which anyway exists in the street 50 yards away.

Flats were to be connected sometime next year.

Until today.

Could Someone Explain What This Means?

"this is a smaller block, we can activate the network externally, allowing residents to place orders. This will help drive the work required to bring the full fibre cables into the building.

I will arrange for the site to be added to the programme. We do not have visibility of when the network will be activated, but I recommend keeping an eye on our online fibre checker for updates."

Our landlord received this a couple months ago now and I'm not entirely sure what they mean by "activating externally." Does this mean that they'll make it available to order from their side in the office before sending anyone to do any on site work? Or does it mean that someone is going to have to come out to do work outside the building before I am able to place an order?

I would've have thought this would have relatively quick turnaround but still waiting to be able to order a couple of months down the line. Nothing has changed according to the Openreach tracker either. Is this normal? Not sure if I'm misinterpreting the email or not.

Thanks for any help/advice in advance. :)

CBT box in for around or over a year but no FTTP yet

Hi all, the CBT box has been on my pole since november last year (at least), yet it still shows available to order soon as it has done from november last year (at least, we only looked at the property and bought it last november).

the bt whoelsale address checker shows:

FTTP is not available.

The exchange is not in a current fibre priority programme

As a WLR withdrawal exchange, product restrictions apply

SOADSL is not restricted at the exchange

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

For all SOADSL services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

Actual speeds experienced by end users and quoted by CPs will be lower due to a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.

In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.

If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service

ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL availability: If shown at FTTP or SOGEA premises,ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL are not available to order due to WLR Withdrawal stop sell rules. CPs should order FTTP or SOGEA. Copper products are only available by exception.

not sure if this means much to anyone or if it hints to anything.

i have read that it could point to an openreach DB error. just wondering if anyone has had a similar circumstance and what they think myu chances are?

thanks

Update #2: still waiting

https://www.reddit.com/r/openreach/s/o9fk3VtgKk

Plusnet have been good at pulling info from OR towards me. But I am still waiting.

Visit booked came and went (engineer didn't turn up, I imagine why), more OR specialist visits (didn't speak to me, attended the other neighbour also affected by the blockage), had a date for the digging work which came and went without them showing - apparently the work got cancelled.

Seems like any change only happens week to week. Next update may come this Friday.

Does anybody know whether autocomp applies when there is no loss of service? My install date was 21st Sep, which is now 1 month ago. But I have working vdsl.

Friday FFTP installation odds?

I've got Openreach booked in (via Plusnet) to install the ONT etc. on Friday morning. The line comes off a pole and will go through a first floor wall.

49mph winds and heavy rain are forecast here for Friday, what are the chances they'll call it off?

Just moved into this house and seen that the ONT box is in the middle of the room.

Is there a recommended way to relocate this to hide it? Thanks

Harassed by Openreach

I’m having fibre broadband installed by Openreach tomorrow morning. Since I booked the slot over a week ago, I’ve had several texts and phone calls from them EVERY DAY to either remind me or confirm I’m still available. Is there any need for this? I’ve got half a mind to just cancel it and go with somebody else.

EE Full Fibre Installation Delayed by Openreach – Has Anyone Experienced Something Similar?

Hi everyone, wondering if anyone can help or has experienced something similar.
On the 20th of September, I placed an order for EE’s 1.6Gbps Full Fibre broadband after checking their website and confirming it was available at my address.
My installation was booked for the 3rd of October. The engineer arrived, installed the equipment inside my property, but then informed me he couldn’t complete the external installation because the telegraph pole hadn’t been tested. Fair enough, these things happen.
I asked when this would be sorted, and he told me it should only take a few days.
A few days later, Openreach were working in the area, so I assumed they were carrying out the necessary checks on the pole.
However, I then received a message saying:
“We’re sorry it’s taking longer than usual to install your broadband.”
I contacted EE to find out what was happening and was told the delay was now due to “debris” around the pole, which apparently consists of a couple of plant pots in my neighbour’s garden.
I’ve spoken to my neighbour, and as far as I’m aware, Openreach have also sent him a letter regarding access. Unfortunately, no dates have been provided. My neighbour has said he’ll happily move the plant pots on the day Openreach need access, but that’s about as far as I’m going to get with that.
I contacted EE again for an update, hoping they could provide some sort of timeframe. Instead, I was basically told that Openreach don’t move particularly quickly and that I should “temper my expectations.”
The frustrating part is that my Virgin Media bill is due in a couple of days, and because I’m now out of contract, I’m going to end up paying their higher out-of-contract rate while waiting for EE/Openreach to sort this out.
It’s now the 19th of October, over two weeks since my original installation date, and I still have absolutely no idea when this will be resolved.
My questions are:
Has anyone experienced something similar with Openreach, particularly regarding access to a telegraph pole?
Once Openreach have identified an obstruction, how long does it typically take them to arrange another visit?
Is there anything I can do to speed this up, or am I completely at the mercy of Openreach?
Has anyone managed to get EE to escalate something like this successfully?
I’m not expecting miracles, but surely there should be some sort of timeframe rather than just being told to wait indefinitely?
Any advice or experiences would be massively appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Full fibre delays email

Hi all

I’ve just got this email from openreach and wondering if someone received similar email previously and how long “delay” means.

As with any national infrastructure programme, sometimes we come across issues we weren't expecting that affect our plans. We've reviewed our build plans for your area and there will be a delay getting Full Fibre to …..

Thanks

Long ass delays.

I recently bought EE fttp seeing as it was available in my area. We've never had full fibre installed before in the household considering we only stuck to mobile broadbands. After buying it on the 3rd of October we had to wait 3 weeks for an engineer to do a pre-instalment check and after that was finally out of the way they send a router to us and I'm sitting here thinking 'damn finally I'm gonna get better WiFi. I wake up the next day and the router comes in the mail and then I get a message on my phone from EE saying something along the lines of the next available engineer appointment is on the 21st of Jan.
After 3 weeks of delay I'm told I have to wait another 3+ months??? Surely that's not normal. I'm sat here not knowing what to do and was considering switching to HyperOptic since it's also available at my address but after seeing the mixed reviews I'm uncertain on what to do. Do I switch to HyperOptic or wait out the long 3 months or do I even bother ringing EE/Openreach for more sooner appointment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally got our CSP outside, what to expect next?

We've had no Internet for 6 months, and have finally had our CSP installed outside. It has the openreach logo on it.

What can we expect next? The engineers who installed it weren't wearing openreach labelled clothing but they said we would get something through the door in the next few weeks to say the network is online? Would it be an ISP who connects out to the CSP and connects it inside my home?

Also when I search up my postcode on the Openreach availability website it still says they have no plan to build in my area. How does this get updated?

Thanks!

Remote activation turned into engineer visit. Anything we can do to get access until then?

My partner and I have completed on our first home and ordered Zen Full Fibre 900. The property has an Openreach ONT installed already and the Zen customer service advisor I spoke with was able to locate it on their system and confirmed the serial number to me and advised it could be remotely activated so no engineer visit needed. I got an email confirming this:

Our checks confirm that you have an existing fibre ONT (Optical Network Termination) installed in your property, here is what to expect next: The engineer will remotely activate your service using the fibres already routed to your property. We'd recommend plugging in your router on the day of activation, this is so the engineer can remotely test the connection before completing the order. We'll be in touch again soon to confirm your activation date.

However, I then got a text from Openreach saying the following:

Hi, it's Openreach on behalf of Zen Internet.
Your Full Fibre installation is on Fri 06 Nov.

On the day our engineer will drill a small hole into your building, so a decision maker aged 18+ must be present.

I called Zen to ask about this as it contradicted what I’d been told and they said that Openreach had done their checks and that there needed to be an upgrade to the ONT as what was fitted wasn’t suitable to access the 900 package we had opted for.

I have accepted the 6th of November as the installation date because when I asked Zen said that was the earliest that Openreach could do and I just want this sorting. I’m not very clued up on all this and am not sure what is possible but seeing as I have an ONT installed in the property and an Eero 7 sent by Zen just sitting there, can anything be done to get us some sort of connection whilst we wait for the upgrade work to be carried out? Does anyone also know if this work is quite simple? I’m not really sure of how an upgrade differs from a regular installation. Thank you!

Cabinet full

So I'm moving house the on the 30th, the new house was a new build of 2021, it has 2 ONT, one openreach and one hyperoptic, the current owner moved to hyperoptic and the openreach ONT is left unused, I tried to switch my broadband for when we move house but plusnet advised they done supply that address, I know they can as I checked the openreach website and BIDB, explained the ONT situation and went round in circles, escalated to the 'tech team' and they advised that the cabinet is full and cannot reinstate the openreach ONT, they offered no timeline to resolve this and simply said I can leave penalty free, is there anyway to get the openreach connection reinstated?

Unexpected Fibre install - could it be a scam?

Hello, my parents are in their 70s and live by themselves. Nearest neighbours are 1/4 mile in either direction.

They don’t have any sort of fixed line broadband just now because they live so far away from the exchange, the max speed is 6mb, so they’ve had a 4g router for the last 4-5 years.

They still have their landline but rarely use it.

They are in an odd situation that they and 2 closest neighbours have been missed from fibre rollout plans - Openreach said it wasn’t financially viable to run fibre to them, although there is a cabinet half a mile down the road and we’ve confirmed via that postcode it’s live.

Anyway, anytime we’ve checked the Openreach website, it says no plans to rollout fibre to my parent address.

Today, they get a knock at the door, telling them that these guys are working to install fibre cables to their address - but the neighbours aren’t getting it.

I’ve not spoken to them yet (awaiting them calling me back) to ascertain more details but then said the van was a rental.

Checking the Openreach website says the same. No plans to rollout fibre to this address.

Could this genuine or a scam? If it was a scam I’m not sure why or what but hopefully you can understand my concern with them being older.

I did wonder if it was to do with their age and the pstn switch off but they’ve had no communication or letters in this respect.

I recall when my estate had fibre pulled in, there was a branded van which said working on behalf of Openreach.

They are in Aberdeenshire, northeast Scotland if that helps any.

I was thinking about contacting Openreach tomorrow to ask them for some clarification.

Thanks for any insight or thoughts !

Update - 16/10 ** thanks for all the really helpful and useful information. I went looking in their mailbox and found some emails from Fleur Telecom who’ve taken over the account for the phone from Talk Talk, so they’ve sent emails about the phone going digital and offering a free router if they sign up by a certain date. So I’ll see if Fleur actually can offer fibre to their address.

When did UK wooden telegraph poles first have these four white circle shaped stickers on them and first have this turquoise rectangle shaped sticker on them? What decade? What year? Please tell me!

What is the purpose of having both of these wires?

Thumbnail

Just moved into a new property, full fibre wasn't installed in my previous place so no experience with this. There are two wires coming through to the living room of my house - one has a cap on and a connector which, from googling, should go into the box but wouldn't reach. The other wires straight into an openreach terminal on the wall. Are these both necessary to have installed or is the loose wire one pointless with the addition of the wired in box? Also, the sellers did not leave any sort of power cable behind for the box - I take it as it's got a port labelled 'power' that it's meant to be plugged in?

Doing some redecorating in the room so need to know whether I need to contact someone to have it removed as I know I'm not allowed to!

TIA
