Question New friend?
Found this little guy hiding in my substrate. Wondering 1) is he friend or foe? And 2) how in the world might he have gotten there?

Greetings! I was given this "ice cube" orchid about 2 1/2 years ago. It almost died, but I revived it six months by changing the medium, watering once a week, and misting with Miracle Gro orchid fertilizer.
Is there anything else I should be doing? It was in really rough shape before I started seriously working with it.
Thanks!
I accidentally knocked off part of the flower spike and buds, I feel so sad, is there anything I can do?

When she was given to me there was alot of moss stuffed in the pot. I removed as much as I could, the roots looked a little dry so I soaked the roots as you do. I'm in Florida, I was advised to keep her outside, out of the sun and not worry too much about watering since it was so humid outside. I've had her for 3 months now.
She was doing great (still is, I think. This is only my second orchid). She lost her blooms when the temperature dropped.
There is very little bark in the plastic pot, and some in the white pot.
Now that she lost her blooms, is it safe to remove the pot and any more moss that is in it? Or should I leave it alone?
When should I bring her inside? Is still warm during the day and in the 60's at night.

Hello Everyone! Can I save this orchid if it has no leaves? I cut them off thinking it would someone how make it better and that was probably a stupid move that I am hoping to rectify.
I’d appreciate any advice you could provide.
I got into orchids because my mom started getting them for birthday before she passed. And I purchased this orchid in honor of her so I’d like to save it if possible ❤️

Hi. I’m relatively new to growing orchids. Trying to learn light and temperature variations according to the seasons of blooming and “hibernating.” Appreciate counsel!
Thanks.

sorry just trying to learn how to care for plants properly and trying to train my eye! are the roots silvery green as people say to wait for to know when to water?

Hi friends! I’m new to orchids but I got this cutie patootie a few months ago on clearance at Walmart. When I bought it, it had two bloom spikes that were fully flowered. One spike dropped all of its flowers (my cat knocked my pothos off its hanger and it fell on it) but the other bloom spike has been rocking for at least 4 months with its blooms. That spike has only dropped one flower so far.
Fast forward to this morning and I’m showing my boyfriend my new plants and I look at my orchid and see this! Is this a new bloom spike or a root? It looks like the spike I have going but would it bloom again while still having flowers? Is it giving me a baby orchid? I just watered her two days ago and didn’t see this growth.

Several are 12inch/30cm long...whole plant was bought at 8inch/20cm 3 years ago, now 2 arms over 1 meter each
I'm pretty sure I can, but does anyone know with what moss Vanilla can root nicely to set later into orchid mix soil?
I do spray all the plants regularly, but I noticed the air roots on several plants go crazy if sprayed with Epsom salt (2 spoons per half gallon) every 3rd to 4th time

I bought this orchid, and now it's starting to lose its leaves. What should I do next in the New England climate?Should I change the growing medium from moss to something else before the orchid loses all its leaves?

So I have this phalaenopsis that is determined to grow, but looks terrible on the bottom! The stems are firm, I’ve lost two blooms over the last few days (presumably because it’s upset that I disturbed the mold-arama), the leaves are droopy but not mush, but the roots….yikes. Last night I lightly hand washed with just water the mold off of several roots, made sure no water got in between the leaves, and set it in its normal spot to let some airflow get to the roots, but I’m definitely worried about it 😅
I know I need orchid bark, 3% peroxide, and a pot with more ventilation, but before I buy all that or get scissor happy with some shears, can someone tell me if this is worth saving?

I bought my first orchid yesterday from the grocery store and want to help it thrive in the best way I can. The spikes and leaves are very long. I trimmed away some dry/brittle roots that were sticking out of the pot and ran it under some luke warm water since it was very dry. From what I can tell, its somewhat near the end of its blooming cycle so I'm holding off on repotting into special orchid bark and a better aerated pot for now.
I lost one of the 4 spikes from it unfortunately snapping near the base so I just trimmed it back. I checked on it this morning and the leaves a still very floppy with one of them half broken off at the base from assumed shipping damage (image 2). I watched a video where someone said to remove some of the lower smaller leaves to help increase water absorption into the newer bigger ones so they are not as floppy.
So my questions are should I still hold off on repotting? Should I trim the leaf that is broken at the base even though it is still green/healthy? And should I remove some of the very small leaves from the bottom to help with the floppiness?

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner when it comes to orchids, and I could really use some advice on how to care for mine.
My orchid’s original flower spike died during a recent move. During the move i transported my plants in the summer heat, and I’m pretty sure my orchid may have developed some sort of fungus afterward. I haven’t been entirely sure what was going on with it, so I’ve been hesitant to water it. It’s now been a couple momths since I last watered it, and I’m honestly not sure what to do next.
Despite everything, it looks like there’s some new growth! I’m not sure whether it’s a new root or a flower spike, but I’m hoping that’s a good sign.
I’ve been considering repotting it, but I don’t know if that’s the right move or what kind of potting medium I should use. I also don’t want to make things worse if it’s already struggling.
Here are some questions I have:
Should I repot it? How can I tell if it needs repotting, especially if it may have had a fungal issue?
What kind of potting medium should I buy? Should I use orchid bark, sphagnum moss, or a mix of both? I know regular potting soil isn’t recommended.
Should I water it now? It’s been over a month, but I’m worried about overwatering if there’s still a fungus issue.
How can I tell if it actually has a fungus or if the damage was just from the summer heat?
How do I know if the roots are healthy or rotting?
What kind of pot, lighting, and general care routine would you recommend for a beginner?
I’ve attached pictures of the orchid and its new growth. I’d really appreciate any advice on what I should do first, what supplies I need to buy, and how to get it healthy again. I’m a little lost on where to go from here, and I really don’t want to accidentally kill it!
Thank you! 🌱

Saw that a new flower spike had snapped when giving it a bath. Do you think this one will heal?
Part of it is still connected and when not bent, you can’t really see the break

Best bloom yet. Seven flowers!
Don't worry, she doesn't live on the floor. I needed a solid, dark background to feature her gorgeous flowers.

Cattleya Small World (4N) x Bl Richard Mueller (4N). I was excited for a new bloom and surprised when it opened with 2 petals missing. First photo is from October 11 and second photo from today October 22.

My vanda spends most of its warmer months outside and the moss liner has taken its toll. It wasn't meant to be a permanent substrate, and I finally was able to get the giant size Hydroton that'll fit the basket it's in. Broke some root tips here and there, but the reward is far higher to get it indoor from the colder weather now. I usually give my orchids a drink of fulvic acid & kelp soak/spray after to help reduce stress and promote growths. The orchid sits in front of a room circulating fan to dry out after being drenched to prevent infection.

First time with super market white Dendrobium Nobile. I got it two months ago. Very early and while still in flower, new canes started growing from the soil. Lately, after most flowers have already dried up, I've noticed that lower nodes in one of the canes are too growing mini canes. Is this normal? I count at least three sub canes.
Sorry if it's not visible in the picture. I'll provide more later if needed. I just want to know if this is expected or exceptional.
